Its because lock downs don't work. They help with mitigation, but unless you have a complete quarantine they are not going to erradicate the virus. Grocery stores don't have a magic shield that kills the virus and that is a place where 1000's of people converge on a daily basis. Its the one place where basically everyone goes to catch the virus.
And I don't buy that the virus is gone in Wuhan and the lock down is not really lifted there. Non Wuhan residents can leave but the city is still pretty much a ghost town. Their are outbreaks going on all over China and Wuhan probably flares up very soon since the CCP cannot not lie and cover up.
Italy is still getting thousands of cases a day and 100's of deaths, but they have been lock down since March 9th. People infected now and dying now were done so after their lock down. Same across the globe. We can mitigate the virus, using social distancing and masks is probably just as effective as these half ass lock downs that we have seen. The only real solution is 100% quarantine where everyone is locked in their home for 2 months and they either survive or die. But that is not feesable and its too cruel and will kill more people than the virus would.

If it's a family or large group, then it only takes one infected member to bring the virus home and contaminate all the rest.

Making a vaccine isn't impossible. We have the flu jab which has helped reduce the death rate from flu. What's dystopian about requiring Employers to protect their workforce before opening up? We could probably open up before the vaccine is finished if the death rate falls to a sufficient number and if we require PPE in workplaces and social distancing.
In many countries like Japan, facial masks are now a form of attire. We might do well to adapt similar customs. I'm not talking about UBI, constant lockdowns or whatever.

But you are talking about constant lockdowns. If you want people locked down until there's a vaccine, that's AT LEAST a year away. You can't keep people locked down for a year and expect society to still exist. But then you preach about changing society and consumerism, because you're a socialist troll.

The smoke itself would weaken your lungs. But it is supposed that nicotine could have an effect, by using same receptors as the virus. Hence why a study will be made based on nicotine patchs rather than giving cigars to patients.
But it's all observational and hypothetical for now, like for all potential treatments it's important not to draw early conclusions.

Not sure whats going on up here in Canada. Numbers keep going up. We were doing so well a week ago and now it looks like we are hitting a surge. We have also been in lockdown for a month or more. All I can read is how great Trudeau is doing and Canada is doing an amazing job.
I don't to me it seems like something is going wrong and I don't have much faith that outside of giving people money and saying stay in your house we are doing anything. I don't see any inovations in testing (except for one which we banned while allowing other countries to use). I don't hear about ideas or plans to re open the country outside of vague take it slow and we won't go back till their is a vaccine. How about mandating masks and temp checks? Limiting capacity in places that open up?
I am starting to get the feeling that our leadership up here is just throwing their hands up and praying for a vaccine and the only solution we have is stay home.

If that is representative of entire state, they had 2.6 million infected, official number of C19 deaths is 20 thousand, or less than 1% of CFR, on the other hand, there probably are people who died but weren't counted as C19 victims.
I worked in pharma research company, which is admittedly very different from production, know a couple of guys doing engineering for Bayer, which isn't much so this is nothing but my uneducated opinion.
I cannot imagine a process, that allows you to produce 1 million vaccines while collaborating with half a dozen of companies, that wouldn't allow to produce 10 times as much, if you involve 10 times more companies.
They are playing it safe and not betting too much on it just yet.
Again, just my humble opinion.

PA made a rule to make wearing a mask mandatory in any retail store. Retail stores don't want to enforce it since they are not the police. Police don't want to enforce it since it is not actually a law and they probably have better things to do.
So I have been reading lots of stories this week where masked people are starting arguements with non masked people at stores. People are getting pissed at stores for not throwing out non masked people and making posts not to shop at those places. Police keep getting called and saying there's nothing they can do. What a mess. All local social media is just people yelling at each other.

Most people (99.9%+) handled it just fine, and the medical system dealt with it perfectly well. Even if I can understand why they did it, this lockdown was not necessary, and now it is just a farce. Time to move on!

Not PA, but my wife and son were out without masks and had a older man get up in their face, yell at them about how they were putting everyone in danger (there was nobody else in the neighboring probably 30 meters), and filmed the whole thing "for Youtube". She told him to fuck off. Glad I wasn't there or that old guy probably would have a few broken ribs. She texted me right after it happened and I contacted the police and informed them he was out there harassing people. Police were UTL.

The lockdowns and crumbling economy are a worldwide phenomenon. Democrats and the media are opportunistically using the situation in some ways, but this crisis isn't some elaborate scheme to get Trump out of office. European and Latin American countries who have closed their economies do not give much of a shit about Trump one way or the other.
As for Gates, Bill was one of the few with the foresight to envision a scenario like this.
He's a good man whose only real fault is that he couldn't buy a non-lesbian haircut with all that money.
