Yes, this sounds great to me. I loved the idea and feeling of exploring in Mass Effect 1, even if the random planets were terribly generated and there was nothing interesting to discover on them. I like that this returns to the exploration focus and hopefully they will do justice to it this time. Also, original Mako was awesome, hope this is even better

Yeah, I'm going to take this all with a pinch of salt. DA:I sounded amazing on paper, but the game itself came across as shallow and soulless to me. I hope they really pull out all the stops with MEA.

I would assume the Ark has a mix of all the species. What happened after ME3 would lead one to assume that all of the species are looking for new homes.
This was the best part of Dragon Age 2.

I mean, isn't it known (or at least strongly implied) that the Arks left the galaxy before the war with the Reapers was over? But Earth was occupied by the Reapers since the very beginning of the war, and right until the very end of it.
Were the Arks built before the war, then? (For what reason?)
Did... the Reapers build them during their time on Earth? (same question, why?) Would kind of explain how such an advanced thing (travel to another galaxy is serious shit) came out of nowhere, though.
So many questions right now.

While I would love to play as a Krogan headbutting the journalist of Andromeda, I can't imagine how hard it would be to write a story where relationships between some species have been established without your choice of race being essentially just a skin that has no bearing on the story.

The hundreds of years into the future really has me interested. That will mean Shepard will be a legendary myth relegated to the history books, and I'm also curious to see what humanity's position is in the galaxy at this point after the reaper invasion.
Biggest question will be what will be the canon choice for Shepard at the end of ME3? Synthesis, Control, or Destruction?

Yea I was wondering this too, even if it was done before the war he galaxy at the time refused to believe that the reapers existed and for something at this scale to not even get a mention to Shepherd while he was trying to get everyone to believe in the reapers?
The only thing that won't cause some retcon to happen is if the arks were sent after the war but even then, why would they leave when the war was over?

Man. I can't believe it's almost time for a new Mass Effect. ME3's multiplayer was one of the biggest outta left field pleasant surprises for me last gen, so I'm excited to see what they have cooked up this time and hope they mix it up. I liked their horde mode, but I would be really disappointed if it was just more of the same, which it sounds like it is.

I'm curious about the reaper's role in this game because surely they would've anticipated some species fleeing to another galaxy during the harvest right? Seems like a massive oversight to allow those with knowledge of the reapers and the cycle to escape where they could possibly become a threat to them in the future.
This all sounds fantastic. The only thing I didn't see on that list which I really want is seamless loading from space to planets. It doesn't sound like we will be able to pilot the ship if Mako is the only vehicle.
It would be pretty neat if over time you have to repair things on the outside of your ship and that gives an opportunity to space walk. But since they confirmed (I think) there are no space battles, then I doubt that's a feature too.
Either way, I am ready for this game to blow me away.

I'm guessing the Arks were contingency plans for the Reaper war and they were built during the same time as the crucible. Which means, they likely don't know how the Milky Way situation turned out. The decision would also only affect those in the radius of the mass relays, so if the arks were in dark space when the crucible activated it'd have no effect on the passengers.
Well the Reapers didn't set out to harvest other galaxies, because-- You cannot comprehend!
It does seem like an Oversight, they say they just hangout in dark space between cycles, but it'd make more sense if they went to other galaxies. And surely Protheans and species from other cycles tried to colonize Andromeda as it's the closest galaxy.

awww yea, focus on exploration has to be the best decision, i'm glad they listened to people who begged for more freeroaming on planets like in ME1.
i enjoyed ME2 and ME3 very much because of all the fantastic characters etc, but they did feel way too linear for being (action) RPGs set in an entire galaxy..

Yeah, this smells like a really big retcon or an art department fuck up/deliberate misdirection on Bioware's part. It's entirely possible that they'll reveal the Arks were built above a planet that has similar lakes to North America, but isn't Earth.

Best guess is that the arks leave the Milky Way, for whatever reason, before the trilogy ends. And arrive in Andromeda long after it has ended. Thus the crew know not of what actually happened, nor would be impacted by the outcome.
If they left pre-Reaper war they may not even know the Reapers exist at all, effectively rebooting the franchise in a new location with zero trilogy baggage.

If they make the exploration meaningful and fun (i.e., not like DA:I), I could see this being pretty cool -- playing as an explorer, looking for a new home for humanity, it's basically an RPG version of Interstellar. I'm increasingly skeptical of Bioware's ability to tell a coherent and engaging story, but maybe this would be a reasonable and flexible framework for a less focused but still enjoyable affair.
They've talked up going to Andromeda as an opportunity to thematically highlight this frontier aspect of space exploration.That's neat, but the environments shown all look so familiar. If I'm going to spend hours driving around in the Mako, I want it to be through what feel likely truly alien worlds, not just "desert world" "jungle world" "ice world" etc.
I can accept making each planet only one biome just for the sake of practicality. But, so far, the planets they've shown look really bleh. Like just Earth biomes and geology w/ a few aliens flying/running around. Some nice sky boxes mind, but still disappointing. Not sure if this is a failure of imagination from Bioware's environment artists, limitations of the engine/development, or they just haven't shown the more interesting planets.

Yeah, the Arks were made to protect the survivors from the Flood- I mean Reapers.
In all seriousness, I like what I'm hearing about this... Although I am still unsure about the fact that they may be ignoring the elephant in the room which is addressing which ending is canon. I like muh canon.

These same elements were fantastic in Inquisition. I trust them to do the same in the Mass Effect universe. ME1 showed a lot for the adventure and ME2 showed a lot for the kind of missions and "episodes" of meeting new people that can happen on that adventure.
However...
...I'm groaning already. I really hate insecure characters.

Mac also interestingly says that they leave for Andromeda before Shepard makes his big decisionS (plural).
Based on these two things my current guess is that the Arks actually leave before ME3 even happens. Citadel DLC establishes the Council believed Shepard all along about the Reapers, likely just kept it under wraps to quell panic. If so they had ample time to build 4 Arks, especially with Shepard's 2 year absence.
