Mass Effect (x360) Screens -- WOW!

Unfortunately in the end it will still be a rpg. I don't see this Doom tech that people keep commenting about. It looks nothing like the Doom engine.

The lighting and textures remind me of hte doom 3 engine. And to be honest it doesn't look all that good lighting and textures. This is obviously a game pretty early in development. But it's Bioware and I don't care if it looks like shit right now, I'm still interested in it.

I think these screens are mere snapshots from the X05 Trailer back in october.

The game looks like a mix of KOTOR, DOOM an Final Fantasy Spirits Within, wonder how it' ll look and play as an RPG.

You can really tell that the game looking good is due to the muddy color palette use. Technically it's not much, but visually it look good.

The biggest change from this gens bioware games graphically is that theres going to be proper digital acting in this game, no more expressionless faces in dialog, which is a god damn huge thing in Biowares games.

Also, that main character is totally customisable (my guess is that change to 'a choice of a half dozen or so' durin the course of development).

They havent said much about the combat, I dont think its just guns though, i think theres melee too which makes me think it'll still be a psuedo-turn based affair, given how Jade Empires combat turned out (it kinda wrecked the whole character development side of the game by being really shallow) id prefer a move back towards a KOTOR type system.

Id be buying it if the combat was tic-tac-toe to be honest, the universe just sounds like bioware gold, I cant wait to dive in.

Dude you're like 500 posts too late.

Everyone in this thread dissing the game's graphics hasn't seen the trailer. Or if they have and they still say it looks average, they're fucking retarded. It looks fantastic in motion and the animation is top notch.

Screens don't work next-gen, etc. etc. It looked pretty good in the X05 trailer.

4. NEXT-GEN AM HERE! Now THIS is the next-generation.

Hey its easy to be a 'tard.

Damnit Bioware, when are we going to get some non-rpg's again? MDK 2 is still your best work to date.

Looks decent. Hopefully the battle system isn't a mess like Jade Empire's..

How can anyone say bad art ? It looks like a cross between Half Life 2, Doom and Kotor which puts it on at least great status.

Put me in the bad art crowd... Sadly, I have yet to be impressed by a BioWare game, but at least it's something original.

Gotta love how the art police are in a hurry to shit on the visuals as 'uninspired'. That's good clean 'classic' SF art in the Western tradition. This is stuff that wouldn't look out of place in a live-action film, design-wise. I'm one of the biggest fans of Eastern art design in games out there, and a lot of Western game art leaves me cold, but this... this, I like.

I guess it would be better if all the characters looked like the were going to a crossdresser convention.

What does uninspired mean?

A couple of people have said this kinda looks like blade runner. Yeah, it does, except its not and it doesnt come anywhere near close.

This has nothing to do with wacky jappy hair styles and asia.

You didn't answer what uninspired means :lol
Well, to be fair KoTOR isn't something special in the art dept. but the game is one of the best of this gen.

You really should see the trailer of this game, it looks really great, the screens don't make it justice at all

I wasn't impresed when the first pics appeared but the tease trailer really changed my mind

Thankyou. Great Post.

The basic gameplay was terrible--combat was a half-assed mix of RPG and action elements, with no real tactical thought needed.
I disagree. I love Jade Empire. Great game and a perfect blend of RPG and action elements.

I hope the combat is more like KOTOR instead of Jade Empire. I liked both games but only KOTOR was a true RPG IMO. Now that FFXII is moving towards the KOTOR side of things, I suspect the rest of the industry will eventually follow .....

Anyone who says Bad Art / graphics sux or otherwise should be kicked in the fucking balls.

Sorry, many of us aren't overweight, bespeckled, goatee-sportin' computer dorks who wouldn't know good art if it smacked you in the face.

See this comes from japan, and is also bad.

I know you guys like to pin all your problems on the japanophiles, but if you could manage to pry the fanboy goggles off for like 10 seconds (i know guys, its gonna be hard but i believe in you!) you could see that the presentation in this game is not interesting in the slightest, and the character designs are almost funny. Not in a slapstick way, like that picture above, but in a "we just graduated from the art institute of the internets" kind of way.
