Well, it's not that I am a car freak...But I certainly appreciate some models and like to see their characteristics, photos and that kind of stuff...

What a surprise I had when this morning entered into the japanese website of Mazda and there were no signs of the RX7. It's kinda weird since I remember visiting it a couple of months ago for doubts I had.
How can this be ?
I think both Honda and Toyota keep the NSX and the Supra on their lineups although being as old as the RX-7 which IMO looks 139383 better than the horrible RX8.

Do they stopped production ??

Umm RX-7 has been out of production for a while now.

Expect a new one in 2006 sometime, thanks to the RX-8

No...no, this can't be.
RX-7 was still on production 6 months ago. Actually the mazda webpage featured a nice space for it informing about different lines, prices, specifications.

I don't think it looks dated...

How can they top the RX7 SP2 - actually series-5 and onwards RX7s are probably my fave cars of all time alongside the awesome RX2 and 3s.

You're right though. The Jp Mazda homepage DID have the RX-7 on their website several months ago. But perhaps it was just to sell the remaining stock of old RX-7s. I don't know too much about them to have a say in that.

RX-8 is not that bad. I think it's still one of the best looking cars out there... but of course, it's no RX-7.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated

Before the do anymore RXs they really need to work on fuel ecomony.

Are people that drive cars like this actually concerned with fuel enconomy?

They are concerned with advertized fuel ecomony. The RX-8 has Hummer-like fuel consumption. It does not get the advertized MPG I would say that it gets 5 to 7 gallons less that advertized and that is with stable driving. I know when I used to gun it I could burn 3/4 of a tank in 100 mile trip.

In a competitive market Mazda should be concerned when there are competing sports cars that offer equal or more power and much better gas mileage.

Gas mileage has always been the downfall of the rotary engine. Many years ago I drove an '85 RX-7 with a 100 HP rotary that got only 23 MPG while mostly driven on the highway commuting. I now have a '03 Infiniti G35 with 280 HP and I'm getting 23 MPG.

I know that's sort of comparing apples and oranges given the advances in technology over the last twenty years, but it's still amazing that I've almost tripled my horsepower while getting the same MPG.

Exactly if the RX were shooting out 260+ hps and getting that kind of milage then I don't think many people would gripe but, they can do better for 238.

But people don't buy cars for just hp. There's so many factors in buying a car, and even when it comes to pure speed, just looking at numbers is half the story.

A friend of mine loves his RX-8, gas-mileage and all. No nissan/infiniti V6 engine can match the rev-happy rotary. People get thrills from different things. Most think that the award winning Nissan V6 is too linear and although quite powerful, just isn't very "fun". To each his own.

As former owner of an RX-8 I can agree that the car's true pleasure comes from it's handling.
That being said I still feel in this environment the car should get better gas milage. I'm not looking at 28/24 but hell at least 24/20 would be nice right now it's really getting closer to 19/13 and that is a same.
