$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated

I have to hand it to McDonalds for really pushing this idea out quickly. It's as though I woke up one morning and suddenly every McD's on my drive to work had these red kiosks in front of them. Curiosity got the best of me and I checked one out, and I have to say, it's pretty neat. It only offers newer DVDs, but they're just $1 a day, due at 10PM the following day. You basically just swipe your debit/credit card, enter your e-mail address if you want an optional receipt sent, and the machine poops out your requested disc or discs. It's all driven by a touch-screen interface. Returning the disc is as simple as hitting 'Return DVDs' and feeding the disc back into the machine. You're charged $1/day for each day that you keep the rental, and after 25 days you're charged $25 to buy the disc. I'm hoping this thing will catch on, as Blockbuster new movie rental prices are sheer extortion. At $1 a day, even my broke ass can afford to watch new DVDs, and its a good supplement to my Netflix subscription, which works well for older movies, but not always so hot for new ones which can get really backlogged. Anyone else test drive one of these?

I used one over the weekend. I got 2 movies, 2 bucks. I returned them the next day at another McDonald's. I only got credited in returning 1 of them though. I called the customer service, which is a voicemail box. I e-mailed customer service, no response. In the meantime, I am getting charged a dollar everyday for a movie I returned. I called again, e-mailed again, still no response.

So it will be a good service when they get it working smoothly.

Do they just stock family freindly full screen?

No, I rented Blade Trinity and it had Widescreen and Full Screen viewing options. I also rented Be Cool, and that was Widescreen. Blade had no extras as far as 'making of' features, though Be Cool had all the extras. Seems like they will carry nothing but new releases. Seems like it isn't targeted at family movies, as Alone in the Dark is available as well.

Maybe my problem with returning the DVD is an isolated one, and if so, this really could take off big time. If I was McDonald's I would target apartment complexes as well. I would love to have a box like that right downstairs.

Wow, that sucks. I think I would be calling my credit card company on their asses at that point and file a claim. I can't say I've had any problems yet with the service.
