MCFARLANE TO PRODUCE 'HALO 3' ACTION FIGURES

Two powerhouses of pop culture are collaborating, as McFarlane Toys announces a licensing agreement with Microsoft to produce action figures based on the hit video game series Halo®. Halo 3 is scheduled to arrive in stores later this year.

Halo follows the events of an inter-galactic war between the last surviving members of the human race and an advanced collection of alien races known as The Covenant. The first title in the series, Halo: Combat Evolved, was the flagship title for Microsoft's Xbox video game console when it was released in 2001. The game achieved both critical acclaim and financial success, selling more than 6 million copies worldwide.

"Halo is one of the top video game franchises of all time," says McFarlane Toys CEO, Todd McFarlane. "We get to put our company's touch on a sci-fi epic that is visually and thematically stunning. Through its game-play, Halo has been able to attract a very large and loyal audience, most of whom happen to be our customers as well, which makes this an excellent partnership."

The proposed action figure lineup is as follows:

MASTER CHIEF -- The protagonist of the Halo series stands at 5 inches tall, and has more than 18 points of articulation. Equipped with his trademark assault rifle, Master Chief's mission is to protect Earth against the Covenant, an alien empire threatening the world in the 26th century. Biological and cybernetic enhancements and rigorous military training have resulted in Master Chief's unquestioned status as the finest soldier mankind has ever produced.

BRUTE CHIEFTAIN -- The highest rank in the Brute hierarchy is the Chieftain, whose articulated figure is the tallest of the series at 6 inches. Belonging to the Covenant, the Brute Chieftain carries the gravity hammer, a close-range weapon with the ability to alter gravity at a local level and crush his enemies and surroundings.

CORTANA -- Developed by the United Nations Space Command (UNSC), Cortana is a smart A.I. with the ability to project herself as a holographic image and be transferred between computer systems, including the cybernetic armor of Master Chief. This figure's base features an LED light that illuminates her 4.5 inch-tall figure.

JACKAL SNIPER -- To the benefit of the Covenant, Jackal Snipers have incredibly sharp reflexes and deadly aim. Standing at 5 inches, the Jackal Sniper is equipped with its signature beam rifle, which has the ability for long range shooting and a high degree of damage.

GRUNT 2-Pack -- At 3.5 inches tall, the Grunt is a menace to the human race, and represents the vast majority of the Covenant infantry. The Grunts are the lowest tier of the Covenant hierarchy, and move in packs. They are expected to unquestioningly obey the commands of their Brute commanders. Outfitted with weapons including the Plasma Pistol and Needler, the Grunts may not seem much more than cannon fodder, but in groups, they can be deadly.

There will also be a three-vehicle line-up that includes:

WARTHOG -- As the most widely recognized vehicle of the UNSC, the Warthog is a ground vehicle capable of carrying up to three soldiers. Known as the best all-around vehicle for its power, adaptability and toughness, the Warthog measures 3 inches in length and is built of die-cast metal and plastic.

GHOST -- The Ghost is a single-seat, anti-gravity vehicle used by the Covenant. Mounted with twin plasma cannons, the Ghost is a rapid-attack vehicle designed for speed and maneuverability. The Ghost is 3 inches long and made with die-cast metal and plastic.

BRUTE CHOPPER -- The Brute Chopper makes its debut in Halo 3. A single-wheeled vehicle, the Brute Chopper will prove invaluable to the Covenant's campaign against humanity. With a length of 3 inches, the Brute Chopper will be made of die-cast metal and plastic.

The figures are expected to hit store shelves Spring 2008.

Halo 2 was released in 2004, breaking sales records (more than 7 million copies worldwide) and becoming the fastest-selling media product in US history.

Halo 3, in development for the Xbox 360, is scheduled for release on September 25, 2007.

They'll be more Statues than Action figures like most Mcfarlane stuff, but that's a good thing as long as they're sturdy.

Bungie has been very tight-lipped on anything dealing with Elites. It's very strange.

It better be because the general public cannot handle the sheer badassity of them.

My prayers have been heard, no more with that shitty Joyride stuff! McFarlane Toys are absolutely the best action figures makers around, finally MS chose the right partner for their Halo toys :)

5 inches for Master Chief and 6 inches for the Brute? These things won't look good next to the other stuff McFarlane makes. Their base height is usually around 7 inches. Master chief should be a good 8 with the Brute towering at 9 inches. Oh well.

Good good. There was something about the Halo 2 action figures which put me off from buying them. Master Chief didn't actually look like MC from the game, his helmet was weird and some other stuff I disliked. Basically they didn't represent their digital counterparts.

The only two things that may suck about these figures is that they'll either break too easily and that they'll have very limited articulation, but wow, 18 points...

They're obviously making them smaller so that the vehicles can accomodate them without being overly large and expensive.

McFarlane? Good stuff...

Even though I got my Series 1 Master Chief and the Camo Grunt, I didn't like the Joyride Chiefs at all - especially the way the helmet looked weird...

That's good news... I never did buy any of the other Halo figures, they just seemed so cheap. I have quite a few McFarlane toys and they are nice. You know, I haven't actually gone ape shit with buying tie-ins in quite a number of years... Halo 3 is going to do it for me I think. I want. I need.

McFarlane is a good choice. Maybe these will actually be worth collecting.

Exactly how I feel. Finally, some good figures and not that shit toy brand they used to use.

McFarlane needs to do Oregon Trail toys. Two lines:

Line 1 - done in Apple II graphics, all blocky. A "Hunt" diorama will be available, complete with magnetic animals, and a man with a white ball for a head.

Line 2 - the usual "extreme" McFarlane take on things. The hunter would have more guns and shit than Commando Spawn, and the wagon would have ox skeletons and missle launchers and spiked wheels. Various settler figures would come with a color-change feature to show the effects of cholera or dysentery. The club exclusive would be a tombstone that you could order with your very own death message.

HATERS BE DAMNED, McFarlane is my best comic artist. His Spiderman is how I always and forever imagined Spiderman:

(sorry for the small off-topic GhaleonEB)

Those are looking great BTW.

Yay, toys that will break the minute they're taken out of the package!

Man I wish that guy would go back to drawing. Biggest waste since Carrey left comedy.

Why does McFarlane's Spider-Man constantly look surprised? John Romita Sr. FTW!

Sorry for the off-topic. I think we might have to continue this in another thread.

McFarlane does make some damn good toys though. This is a good decision.

Fixed, but hell yes! McFarlane draws great charcicatures, but when it comes down to it, few come close to the classics.

The thing that pisses me off is that the new figures won't mesh with the Halo 2 figures I have. They're 7" high. Bummer.

But man, that prototype looks sweet. Guess I'll have to pick it up anyway.

I'm quick! I noticed that the vehicles were the 3 inch ones, which makes even less sense than the characters only being 5...this is awesome at first, but when you find out the details it's kinda bleh.

I have so many of his sports line, good stuff, but the size is what makes them cool, I don't want micro machines :p
