Nintendo hatches secret global launch plan for Revolution

Nintendo is set to mirror Microsoft’s Xbox 360 launch strategy, the Japanese firm believed to be planning a global rollout for its Revolution system next year.
According to online reports emerging today (October 25th), Nintendo’s next-generation GameCube successor could hit Japan, US and European retail as early as June 2006.

However, MCV understands that September is more likely, although no official announcement is expected until early 2006.

Responding to the claims, a Nintendo of Europe spokesperson told MCV: “This is a rumour and we don’t comment on rumours.”

Who will be last to market?

I've got a feeling this is all from the same little inkling of information and has now just degenerated into more and more significant news sources reporting on other extrapolative news sources without wanting to have to source them.

That, or it's working out exactly how it did with the 360. Someone would find out a grain of truth in a statement, put it on a website, and then people under NDA would be led to believe that means it's out in the open and even more solid information gets out.

A June launch for Revolution would be ideal, especially if they have particularly impressive stuff at E3. I can imagine Mario being beyond this world awesome and everyone impulse buying a Rev for it if the Rev was coming out just a couple months later.

I would absolutely love to see something like this happen, but I won't hold my breath.

...Speaking to Nikkei Business, Iwata said: "I can only say that it's coming out during 2006, but it will be after the current fiscal year."

"We hope to make it a simultaneous worldwide release as much as it's possible."

Iwata did not offer any specific sales targets for the Revolution, but did state that it was imperative that the number of consoles sold was higher than the number of GameCubes sold - a figure which currently stands at 18.76 million.

"[Revolution] would be a complete failure if we didn't sell more units than the Nintendo GameCube," Iwata said.

He went on to talk about the Revolution's innovative new "freestyle" controller, revealed at the Tokyo Game Show last month. Perhaps suprisingly, Iwata revealed that former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi had no involvement whatsoever with the controller's development...
i can see june-sept 06 as possible.

a launch from June to September is not hard at all to believe. They can't have a dying Gamecube on the market longer than neccisery.

Yeah, the degree to which MCV is covering their ass here is shameful.

They probably just saw the story on Ars Technica that Sp-0-ng also copied and decided to run with a more generalized version.

Recall, the GameCube also made a mid-September launch in Japan. Even if that happens again, MCV could still claim their story was basically right. Boo for non-news.
