Mech-Assault 2: Lone Wolf

This game is ineligible for the AIAS game of the year awards, and apparently you guys got tired of waiting for it as well.

I'm not a fan of the series myself, but why was it overlooked?

No kidding. I'm saying that it wasn't included in the GOTY discussion.

It's coming out at an akward time for that. But my answer stands. It's a robot battle game...if it comes out and blows everyone away, has Halo type multiplayer goodness, etc. I'm sure you'll see some edits. But frankly, look at the titles that have hit, it would be hard imagining a game releasing immediately after Xmas having that sort of impact.

Besides the fact that it comes out 3 days before the new year?

I'm pretty sure the cutoff point for GOTY contendership was late November.

Personally, I can't wait. If it delivers on only half of what it promises online, it will be the BEST XBL title.

Perhaps I'm just weird, but I don't like Halo 2 online. It just feels unbalanced and most of the weapons to way too little damage.

I find myself playing Star Wars: Battlefront more.

You're not weird, you just haven't bothered to learn how to use the weapon system. Try a plasma\smg combo and tell me it doesn't do enough damage; and it's readily accesible on any map.

I'd be curious to know why they chose such a strange release date. I'm glad it didn't get rushed and all that, but it seems wierd.

Trying to avoid the big xmas glut, I guess.

ArcadeStick, apparantly reading comprehension isnt your forte.

I said i feels unbalanced (because it is. No way should the Plasma Sword with unlimited freaking ammo no less, be a one hit, teleporting kill), but most of the core weapons do so little damage that they aren't even a factor. Most maps become a sword, grenade fest.

Don't tell me I haven't "bothered" to learn anything. I've put in many hours of playtime on that game online and it's extremely unbalanced.

There are major problems with the way the Plasma Sword can track you in the air and lunge for the cheap kill. This needs to be fixed, BADLY.

It's a disappointment to me. There's almost no strategy, no teamwork. It's just who gets the sword first.

Granted Halo2 is the smoothest online game I've played, but it lets me down in so many other areas.

Why not play games with the sword turned off?

Lyte, Touche.

Good point. 99% of the games I see don't have the sword turned off though.

don't know, something just doesn't feel "right" about it online.

Have you really explored dual wielding? Plasma pistol coupled with anything is really, really strong. Really, people that complain about the sword being unbalanced just haven't played enough. Unless you run directly at a sword person, their chances of killing you are slim. Just run backward and they won't gain on you.

Ha!

Midship, yes. Others, no. Try to own Burial Mounds, Headlong, Foundation, or Zanzibar with the sword. Just try it, and see how far you get.

It was posted above how to defeat the sword. If the sword sees you first, yes you are probably dead. If any opponent with anything sees you first, you are probably dead, or at least in real trouble.

That sword range isn't very large; it seems endless in Midship, I'll grant you that. If two opponents see each other just out of sword range, which is most rooms in Lockout, the one who has the sword has lost. He has to switch or tag the other guy with a plasma. All the non-sword guy has to due is back up, that's it.

A good sworder will keep his weapon or himself hidden until it's time to strike. A shithead running around with it out all the time is going to get shot in the back.

Couple the plasma pistol with a SMG or magnum and you can kill an enemy in a second, that might even be enough to take a sword opponent inside his range.

Also, you will never want for plasma 'nades on Midship. Stick that sword fucker and moot your death.

There's almost no strategy, no teamwork. It's just who gets the sword first.
Man, you must play with some real mooks.

That's just a fairly bad critique, though I agree, you must play with some poor players. I'm not particularly good, and I've killed sword guys many many times. It's powerful, but it's definitely constrained by circumstances. Which isn't to say that you should enjoy the game, but to say it's totally broken and unbalanced isn't true.
