ps3 software barely made the top 10.. a complete joke of a launch if I ever seen one. If 80k+ systems alone isn't bad enough, they launched with only FOUR games?? :lol

Meanwhile DS continues to litterly dominate. Those non-games continue to prove they are a goldmine (not even mentioning the rest..). If I where Sony and I took a look at these lists, every week, knowing that Wii is almost out with the likes of Zelda and Online Pokemon (among others).. I would crap my pants.

It sure isn't 1 million!

That's true, Jett. It's 850,000, and selling 12,000 a week with a nice holiday sales boost coming. And it'll likely be one of the top 5 selling games in all of Japan this year. But wow, you're quite the sharp sales analyst!

Only if you discount training games.
He was talking about games not non-games :lol
jk

I cant see FF III amongst 5 best selling games of 2006

Pokemon D/P
NSMB
Brain Age 2
FF XII
Animal Crossing
English Training
Brain Age
General Knowledge Training

These are games which sell or will sell more than FF III and probably I forgot some other games.

I didn't think the PS2 would see such a big dip so quickly. This has also got to be the lowest week for PSP sales, right?

Wow...

PS3 cannibalizing every other system sales except the DSL? (...and Xbox.)

Blimey... DS still a monster, and interesting to see such a sharp drop for the PS2.

BTW - anyone kept track of the figures for the PSP over the past month or two? It seems to be in a downward slide at the moment, but I'm not sure whether I'm misremembering the figures.

Hmm That doesn't look like a massive DSL restock.

Gone are the days of the DSL selling multiple times everything else on the charts combined. However, not even the mighty Playstation name stopped the DS juggernaught from scoring over 148,000 units.

Oddly enough the PS3 was only able to hurt sales of Sony's other systems, while Nintendo and Microsoft actually go UP this week.

:lol :lol :lol

The PS3 is a zit on the DSL's rear.
I prefer "Bump on the log of..."

Zit on a proverbial rear conjures up images I'd rather not think about. ;)

No doubt due to the alternate market that the DS is able to tap into.

If Wii takes off out of the gate, my bet is that Square-Enix jumps on the Wii train with DQ IX and maybe FF XIV (Cause DQ sure ain't gonna be on the 360).

There is just no stopping the DS train. I would expect that at some time in the near future if Sony can actually ship more consoles it should be able to beat out the DS at least a few times this holiday season, right?

The Wii? Who knows, but It should prove interesting. It is strange to see the PS2 gravytrain slow down though, and good lord at that PSP sales. YUCK.

There is very little likelihood that Sony will be able to manufacture/ship more PS3s than Nintendo can DSLs at ANY point. And right now, demand is greater than supply for both of them.

DSL 148,174 (5,625,283)
PS3 81,639 (NEW)
PSP 19,123 (4,175,552)
PS2 16,157 (19,937,845)
Xbox360 3,864 (162,959)
GBASP 1,320 (5,903,641)
GBM 1,213 (548,884)
GC 496 (4,163,739)
DS 279 (6,581,014)
GBA 12 (8,822,863)
Xbox 3 (475,572)

Am I off at all? That looks about right

I don't think it's going to be possible for the PS3 to outsell the DSL until next holiday season, knowing that Sony won't be able to come close to meeting demand this holiday season. Unbelievable.

Japan hardware LTD 2006 > 2005 > 2002 > 2004 > 2003.

2002 : 9 180 600
2003 : 7 751 000
2004 : 8 489 684
2005 : 9 813 334
2006 : 9 879 688

And it is not finished...

Awesome, 10+ million consoles sold this year. Is that the most ever, or did the Famicom/Super Famicom days have crazy numbers?

Depending on whether or not the Wii takes off in Japan, there is the possibility that PS3 might never be able to outsell the DSL this generation. Japan is traditionally very one-sided when it comes to what gets popular, leading to situations of crushing domination (NES, PS2, DS). If the Wii takes off in DS style, the PS3 may not have the momentum left when manufacturing gets up to speed in order to catch up to either it or its touchscreen'd little brother.

This is all dependent of course, on Square Enix's machiavellian plan to balance out the playing field failing miserably.

Up to early January 07, DSL > PS3 (100% probability)
From Jan 07 - Mar 07, DSL > PS3 (80% probability).
From March 07, PS3 might be able to sell more than DSL (if DSL demand drop significantly)

How did you come to this conclusion? The DS has been out pacing the PSP 7:1 and you expect it to be this close? This would pretty much require PSP sales to peak, to head in its exact opposite trend. Baffling.

I'm anticipating the Japanese people to realize that the PSP is god's gift to humanity any day now.
