Media Create Sales: 7/21 - 7/27

25. WII Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World 5923 / 194219

Well seeing how Media Create 7/21-7/27 had #30 at 7,300 and Tales was not on that list I wonder if it will have crossed 200k in Famitsu when their chart catches up (since it was at 194k it would only need about 5.5-6k)

Media-Create blurb:

PSP total domestic sales have exceeded 10 million. Software in the "Monster Hunter" series and the Slim & Lite PSP-2000 released in September 2007 extended a steady flow of sales from its release 3 years and 7 months ago. 2008 will continue to maintain a strong performance and extend its sales further.

Total sales of the Top 100 titles is 945,240, 72.79% of last week, and 93.62% of the average weekly sales. Dragon Quest V sold 190K and remains in first place. For new games, the PS2 version of Power Pro 15 (84K) tops the list, Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki the 3rd (39K), Siren: New Translation (35K), and Katekyoo Hitman Reborn! DS Flame Rumble Hyper - Moeyo Mirai (32K). There are 18 new games this week with the percent of sales being 32.96%.

How many other games have seen a parallel PS2/Wii launch?

IIRC, a DBZ game last year, did similar proportions to Jikkyou.

Uhhhhhh

This is kind of a big deal, because it gives us a good estimation of what the ratio is between numbers we get and numbers we don't get--a calculation we ordinarily only get to do when comparing aggregate weekly numbers to the yearly top 500.

If anyone out there wants to get that weekly average number and pound it out for random weeks over 2008 to see what percentage the numbers we get are of the total numbers, that'd be awesome.

They post that kind of a snippet every week.

It won't just break it, it will rip it to pieces.

How long? Two weeks? I'm thinking within a month, myself.

Nintendo will need to make a couple of factories dedicated to making DQIX cartridges for a few weeks before release. That's another reason it'll probably get delayed until next Spring. Remember when cartridge production for FFIII had to be postponed to get enough Pokemon D/P cartridges made? Yeah.

Wii Sports and Wii Play probably have it beat.

Wii Sports 2? (or, hell, Wii Sports if you look at Japan where it should finish #1 as a non pack-in)

i seriously think it will top out at around 3.5. if anything it wont go past 4.5 mill. if it does? well,i guess a healthy serving of crow will be on my menu for that night.

Joshua, can you do a graph of Xbox sales launch aligned with 360 sales in Japan according to Media Create? I'd really appreciate it.

That data would be easy for anyone to pull out of his system. For example.

Thank you.

For those who are curious:

linecompare.php

1) At this point in its lifespan, Xbox 360 is outselling the original Xbox ~10:1 on a weekly basis.

2) Based on Josh's data, as a general rule, the original Xbox launched to higher weekly sales and then gradually dwindled down; the 360 started at very low weekly sales and has picked up.

3) The 360 has already outpaced the original Xbox LTD in Japan.

How can that be possible? The original Xbox sold about 470K, so the 360 needs to be near where the PS3 is now for that to be correct. :P

I remember this. I just like, WTF? When I heard the news. Insane :lol

There are still people who believe that's possible?

Actually if it lasts till 2010 (which I don't think it will necessarily) there's a reasonably good chance it could. I don't think it will personally but it's on pace to just about do it in that scenario

By the end of the generation? The way it's been rising the past few weeks, that's might not be so impossible anymore.

A dollar is 100x more than a penny, but it still isn't shit.

and I'd hope no one would disagree with you. Shit is actually quite expensive.

In May 1961, Manzoni collected his own feces in 90 numbered cans, which contain 30 grams of feces each. He labelled them as "100% pure artist's shit" in Italian, English, French and German, and sold them for the price of their weight in gold. Their current estimated value stands at approximately EUR30,500 (US$25,000–35,000). On May 23, 2007, an exemplar has been sold for EUR124,000 at Sotheby's.

10M to beat Animal Crossing WW

I bet NSMB is even higher, and Brain Training or Nintendogs if seen as one game are even higher (Nintendogs is close to 20M)

I doubt DQIX reach 10M worldwide, it would be twice the best they already did, I think

Anyone think the 360 can still break 1 million in Japan ?
Yeah, it should do it without much problem. From now until the end of the year, sales should be improving steadily.

Aug: Vesperia
Sep: Infinite Undiscovery
Oct: ? (Maybe Fable 2?)
Nov: Last Remnant
Dec: ? (hoping for Cry On with blow out at TGS)
