Wow @ Wii numbers in the past few weeks :0 The only thing that makes those number seem somewhat normal are the massive drop in sales for every other system along with it... Is it do-not-by-game-systems season or something?

So long as they are ahead of the PS3, I doubt they are panicking.

Obvious. After all, Nintendo has dominated with NES-levels for last 2 years and their % of dominations has been around 80%, both Software and Hardware. Two or three weeks don't change almost anything.
Of course IF DS remains arounf 70k and Wii around 30k Nintendo should do something, but don't forget that Galaxy and Smash AND Wii Fit are coming for Wii and Dragon Quest is coming for DS, so something will change very soon and not for worse !

But it's good to see finally something less monotone in Japan: even if PS3 is still in trouble and X360 almost doens't exist, PSP has proved to be a valuable and rentable handheld and IF good softwares are developed for it, the sales still can skyrock, both software- and hardware-wise. MHP2 and FF are good example.
Just I hope that with this week, Sony will concentrate themself a little bit more on it and stop be paranoid with PS3 and that Third Parties will not only consider it as a distant second.

If Iwata is to be believed, Nintendo isn't comparing the Wii to the PS3, it's comparing it to other forms of popular entertainment. 30,000 a week is NOTHING. He has the latest issue of Famitsu in one trembling hand, steadying a cup of tea with the other, and his normally placid expression is gone; glasses askew, face flushed, he stares once more at the numbers--disbelieving, uncomprehending, shaking his head as if to eliminate dandruff. How could we have gotten it so wrong? he thinks, taking a sip of the steaming drink. How could we have expected that Wii Sports alone wasn't enough to sell the console? How was I supposed to know that people actually wanted games?

But, slowly, the rage and terror in his eyes fade, and are replaced once again by his usual beaming, beneficent, yet strangely empty expression. Oh well, he thinks, a measure of satisfaction returning to his mental voice. There's always Wii Fit. And his high-pitched, wild cackle echoes down the corridors of Nintendo HQ.

Nobody looks up, of course. They're used to his funny little ways.

Yeah, this is pretty quickly figured, and "Hello future boy!" to anyone actually checking this out at the end of next year.

DS: 28 million
Wii: 9.5 million
PSP: 8.0 million
PS3: 3.5 million
360: 0.75 million

My end of 2008 Japan's hardware prediction:

DS: 27.3 million
Wii: 8.8 million
PSP: 8 million
PS3: 3.5 million
360: 0.68 million

Wow, on a completely unrelated note: during MTV Italy's 10 minutes news, just after the segment dedicated to politics, they announced that "an historical first is about to shake up videogamers all around the world, with an unprecedented collaboration between SEGA and Nintendo about to bring to life what gamers dreamed about fo many many years: the first ever Mario and Sonic videogame: Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, coming exclusively on Nintendo's own console Wii and DS".
They sounded over excited and even showed the new trailer. Going mainstream FTW!

Shit. I didn't see that. And were they considering it as a big game ? lol

I don't see Mario and Sonic sell as many think. Galaxy and Smash instead will reach at least Sunshine bzw. Melee sold in the long term.

I think you're a bit off, I mean, sales-wise Mario Sunshine was a semi-flop so it's guaranteed that Galaxy (don't even mention Brawl) will completely shatters Sunshine's numbers.

So it looks inevitable that PSP will top the charts next week. When was the last time PSP has topped the sales charts for a week?
Almost time to see how badly the PSP beat everything else. Tomorrow is the big day.
