Now that GT5 has been delayed how long do you think it will take for the PS3 to reach 5 million sold in japan?

It needs about another 350K to reach 5 mill, so without GT5 could it reach this by end of March?

340k in 8 weeks or 42,5k per week with no game able to move hardware until the end of March. No.

I dont think the PS3 will manage to sell that much until the end of March, unless there is a big titled PS3 game that i have forgotten about that comes out before the end of March. I know about Yakuza 4, but i dont know how much PS3 hardware that game alone will sell. I think there is about 6-7 weeks left until the end of March. If it is 7 weeks, then the PS3 must sell in 50K in average each week to sell 350K.

EDIT: Chris1969 replied before me :)

EDIT 2: I see that Fist of the North Star Musou and Yakuza 4 are both released in the end of March, and i think that both of these games qualifies as big (or at least bigger than normal) PS3 titles. Both these 2 games might move some PS3 hardware, but i dont think that they will move enough hardware to get the PS3 upto 5 million units sold within the end of March.

Hope the top 50 gets posted soon.

Looks like S-E shipped about 150-160k of SO4. I doubt they'll be shipped any more units considering the sales though.

God Eater is nowhere near as large an opening as expected by most people, and legs will determine if it can even make it to 400k and beyond. Still, a great opening for a new IP, but it's certainly way less than Namco expects I'm sure.

End of Eternity seems to have done pretty well for a second week, it's almost 200k combined now. As far as Japan goes, both Bayonetta and EoE seem to have performed well for Sega.

AT3 is going to break 100k for sure, and that makes me a sad ducky.

BbS continues to cling on, and will probably end up doing 800k total when all is said and done. If we follow Dengeki, it probably already has! :lol

Valkyria 2 is quite a disappointment for me personally, because I expected much better legs and a stronger start to begin with for the title, considering the change in platform and the increased awareness of the franchise through other cross media forms. In the end it looks like it will end up doing about the same amount as the original PS3 release before the budget re-release, maybe a little better at best.

I believe its the first million seller on a Nintendo console since the SNES.

It looks like the Layton series is definitely on a decline from entry to entry. The start of the new trilogy might not even make it to 700k. Would it be fair to say that unless Level 5 finds a way to revitalizing interest in the series or bringing in new fans, the third entry of this new trilogy could end up selling as little as 500k? It's still amazing for Level 5 though, for me to say something like "as little as 500k"... :lol

Level 5 said that next Layton will be very different from previous 4 entries but that remains to be seen.

Well I think it would certainly be in their best interest to make the games stand out more than just yearly entries, because that's clearly what's hurting the series in Japan at this point. It should be less of an issue outside of Japan since Nintendo seems to take 2 years to release a single entry! Grrrr...

We get one entry each year, Nintendo tries to prevent a Layton-saturation.
In a recent interview with the Level-5 president it sounded like he was really interested in doing a Layton game for Wii. Who knows? :)

That's certainly below what I thought God Eater was going to do, both sold and shipped. Now it seems like it'll do like Musou Hunter rather than Phantasy Star Hunter. I suppose its amazing for a brand new IP 1st week (comparison anyone?) but still so-so taste.

Quite the ambitious shipment there, Square-Enix. And 85k looked like a good case scenario before its launch.

wow Pop'n Music Portable. Totally trounced Wii version:
xx. [WII] Pop'n Music (Konami) - 1,500 / NEW

21k with a 94% sellthrough is damn good.

Now the question is: will there ever be a first party million seller on PSP and PS3?

If GT5 doesn't sell over a million on the PS3, then I will go ahead and say no - never. For the PSP I don't even have to think about future releases, because it's not happening. There is no IP Sony owns which has the ability to sell over a million on the PSP, period.

Didn't Capcom sold 1 million copies to retailers from day one?
Then you need to consider how good did the online fee ...

How can it be "way" less than Namco expects when the first shipment was sold out in the first ~two days and after a second shipment the game has a 84% sell-through?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the best debut for a new IP this gen.

From what I can tell, totally deserved sales in both cases - the Wii version looked atrocious and the control scheme apparently stunk, whereas the PSP version seems to be a more traditional version and has performed better.

Shipments not a representation of the expectations of a publisher. They are a representation of the level of success a publisher has in convincing either the consumers (via preorders) or distributors/retailers (via general orders) to buy their product. Nippon Ichi's expectations for Last Rebellion was to ship 30k initially, the reality ended up being that they shipped a mere 10k. Now, ignoring the fact that it sold only 3k, let's say it ended up selling 8k. That's 80% sell-through of the entire shipment, but does that mean it is not way less than what Nippon Ichi expected?

Hopefully. I loved the original, but got bored with the sequel halfway through. I felt the puzzles were vastly inferior, but I suspect it's just the formula getting stale. I'm amazed the 5th (4th? 6th?) entry did as well as it did in Japan.

This to me is a poor comparison.

We have documentation that says Nippon Ichi explicitly expected 30k sales for Last Rebellion right up until the near pre-release period. Thus, there is no doubt that the 10k shipment represents a disappointment.

Do we have similar documents or statement from Namco? All I remember was their repeated touting of the demo download count, but I don't think a 25-33% conversion rate is bad at all.

Wow. All three Biohazard 4 PS2 SKUs exceeded 100K.

EDIT:

2009 sales for this were 60,435 units. Total for all three is about 735,697. Total with the Nintendo versions is 1,132,525.

DQVI has a sharper drop than DQ V PS2. It'll not become the best selling DQ Remake if nothing unexpected happens leg-wise in the coming weeks.

1. [PSP] God Eater - 276,100 (84%)
Feels somewhat low, but that's mostly due to Namcos demo download bragging. Still very good start for a new IP and good sell through.

3. [PS3] Star Ocean 4 - 84,800 (56%)
Pretty much in line with what most expected. The sell-through is low, though. This will probably end up in the bomba bin pretty soon.

17. [PSP] Valkyria Chronicles 2 - 8,400 / 132,300
Well, that platform change did not do any good.
