Good debut for Xanadu, and Yaru got good wind from the PS4 price-cut it seems. It will be interesting to see how these fare over the coming weeks
and on Amazon reviews
. Otherwise, the boost to PS4 is what I expected on sheer recuperation of lost sales over the last two weeks... which isn't the best of first signs but its the coming weeks that will matter more than this one. Let's see where we stand in a few weeks.

Splatoon something something.

And even in price-cut week for the PS4, the PS3 still moved more software.

Considering Tsutaya had Winning Eleven above Tokyo Xanadu, they weren't even close in the end.

Shame the new games couldn't do anything for Vita hardware. They really have reached the ceiling of this audience, it seems.

Arslan did absolutely horribly. Xanadu and Yoru no Nai Kuni very nice, though.

I stand by what I said of their reports last thread:

Not really related to this report directly, but Tsutaya always seems to give very peculiar (to end result) reports. I guess this is more indicative of their clientèle than anything but its always stuck out to me whenever we get reports and then the actual data comes in.

For a Gust rpg, Yoru Nai Kuni (or w/e) actually did pretty damn well. Just compare it to Ar No Surge... I forgot what Ar Tonelico Qoga did but this opening is pretty close to it too iirc.

Arslan bombed super hard, I wonder what happened. Was the anime really that unpopular?

PS4 doing good numbers (relatively), it'll be interesting to see how they hold up in the coming weeks. I'm not really expecting anything crazy but I think the hold should be okay overall.

Wii U dropping hard, disappointing, but not surprising at all. Considering what's coming in the holidays, I'm not expecting particularly good numbers during the holidays. Unless #FE suddenly becomes a massive hit (lol).

By now you should know that their charts reflect only sales of their own retail chains and nothing else, your post makes even less sense since WE on PS3 charted only first in their seperate SKU charts. In any other retail chains that made their charts available Tokyo Xanadu charted 1st. the most known around here ComG had it1st with just the best selling SKU. please inform yourself next time.

strange, some hours before it was you saying that WE was above Xanadu on Tsutaya... already forgot ? :D

please remember what you said in the past before attacking other people ;)

Uncharted 3 sold >100k first week, so Uncharted 4 should sell well. About the collection, don't expect big numbers, maybe 40-60k first week or so.

That was my expectation for the collection, yes.

The Last of Us was a big hit in Japan. I think Uncharted 4 has potential to be even bigger.

Given the last 2 weeks of sub 10K sales I thought the PS4 would at least hit 50K. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think there will be a sustained sales bump 2 weeks from now.

Yes and it pictures a bump without real lasting effect. Will be back sub 20K soon, maybe next week even.

A game performing close to the previous, is not "bombing". Disappointing? Underperforming? Slow? Maybe. It doing like less than half of what the previous one did would be a "bomb".

But geeze, the word "bomb" is thrown around here a bit too much. Everything is a "bomba". Kinda wonder how sales threads would look if mods changed: bomb, bomba and bombing; like how they changed PSA in titles. :p

Sales threads would bomb :]

Can't see what leads you to believe that considering previous sales.

"From the creators of The Last of Us" + Sony marketing push for the series, which may be the biggest outside Gran Turismo + A very nice special bundle

Edit: what #GameWhisperer said is also true. For example, Uncharted 1 is supposedly at ~4 million and Uncharted 3 may have already topped 10 million. The growth that the series has seen through the gen is amazing.

Jumping the gun: the movie: the game: the post: the book: the fairytale.

Haha, let's make this a visual novel though:

Why is there no info on the successor? Program has ended a week ago now, and nothing is announced. Am I the only one who thought they should have been somewhat prepared to announce something new? They have been talking about a successor since spring.
Miiverse gets a spontaneous (?) revamp - no PR, I did not even get a Newsletter (EU here). Am I honestly the only one who feels their marketing department / customer relations is dropping the ball?

Announcing something next week only, that should have been talked about this week, it just feels off to me.

Obviously you misunderstood, I was talking about Tsutayas sales and the performance of the games in their stores in particular, while discussing Tsutayas own expectations after their comments about last weeks releases. It´s common knowledge around here that Tsutaya is just a chain and therefore don´t necessarily reflect Japan / Media Create/ Famitsu results to 100%. In the same discussion I pointed out that at comg Tokyo Xanadu had a far better point allocation even with just a single SKU compared to any single Winning Eleven version, and we´ve seen in a different chart that combined all system specific SKUs Tokyo Xanadu charted 1st at Tsutaya as well. Among other retail chains.

What were the expectations for Tokyo Xandu?

It did very well relative to retailer expectations, but that doesn't really tell us what Falcom expected.

They're generally not a huge selling studio though.

Also, to note, we haven't had forced avatars in about 3-4 years now so you can feel free to change yours.

Japan (and other countries as well) observe periods of morning for the deceased. It doesn't help that Iwata was the face of Directs and public facing Nintendo for a long, long time.

And something *is* (as far as the rumor mill goes) coming in the next two weeks on top of the in coming mobile news (which will also no doubt bring news of the account systems and what not that DeNA is working on in the back-end).

It sold 80~100% of its shipment, right? It should be within their expectation

That's retailer expectations. Retailers order the game quantity in Japan, not the other way around (unless they get their palms greased by bigger corps, of which Falcom is not one).

The Last of Us was a big hit in Japan. I think Uncharted 4 has potential to be even bigger.

certainly possible, Uncharted 3 sold better than The last of us first week.

Uncharted 3: 124,989
The Last of us: 117,465

Important to mention, Uncharted released in November, The Last of us in June.
I think Uncharted 4 and The Last of us 2 will be pretty close.

Glad Tokyo Xan. is finally out (and doing well?) so attention should be on Ys 8 from here on out. In addition, Yoru no nai Kuni seems to have performed well for Gust.

Sony treats every region like home turf, maybe that's why they sell well in all regions.

No, Europe is actually their home turf, the vast majority of their first party games sell mostly in Europe.

They have token IPs like God of War doing best in the US and everybody's golf in Japan, but for the most part, Europe carries 70%-80% of their first party software sales.

The console itself does well in all regions, but their first party software does average numbers on NPD and mediocre numbers in Japan only to end up selling 10+ million.

Tbh, there aren't many big titles on any platform releasing this fall in Japan. Monster Hunter X is the only one I can think of. Maybe Project X Zone 2 if you think it's a big.

You're right guess were in a time of a transition to new hardwere in this case PS4 and NX.

Picross 3D 2, nooooo

I'm not sure why they could seriously expect for a game like that. A casual puzzle game sequel for a game where most people likely did not finish the original content isn't going to get a ton of follow-up sales.

It's also the type of thing that is incredibly easily replaced by mobile experiences.

That said, it's probably very cheap to make, so I'm not sure if this is a huge problem sales wise.

1) 54,494 ( Metal Gear )
2) 46,395 ( FF, BF, RE )
3) 46,177 ( $399 > $349 )
4) 46,139 ( Dragon Quest )
5) 45,446 ( BloodBorne )

Do you know the LTD of these two games in Japan? In any case, thanks for the info!

First party IP sales has no bearing on what it's home turf is......each region sony treats seperately, they don't have a home turf. They sell hardware well in all regions.

Since when has Uncharted been in the same league as GTA saleswise in any region.

What does it not being as big as GTA have to do with GTA selling well on ps4 with a small install base compared to older GTA's? I don;t think you understand what he's saying. The point is despite the market in japan slowing western games and big IP's are selling as well as previous gens there.

You see, that was not the original idea of my reply. I'm saying that keeping up with the rate which PS3 games sold might be on the cards but growing the franchise beyond that would be unlikely.

GTA selling well on ps4 with a small install base compared to older GTA's?

It sold well considering it's an improved port, but nowhere near the PS3 version (a best version was released recently and it will probably sell in the longterm though)

066. [PS4] Grand Theft Auto V # <ACT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2014.12.11} (¥7.992) - 118.214 / 118.214 (81.659 <66,37%>)

(was probably around 150k when it left the chart earlier this year)
