Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2012 (Dec 03 - Dec 09)

Wish it was doing as well outside Japan. Just release games Nintendo, content sells systems, even if it seems like a loss to localize games that don't get mega sales in the long run it's good to have that kind of library variety for all tastes. If it was doing nearly as good in the West I'd probably have one already and not fear of what support it will get here. As it is I mostly want it for Monster Hunter. 3G which I don't mind too much it won't be online and 4 which will be online on 3DS too. But by the time 4 comes out it might be a dead platform in the West, 3G may have underperformed here, and then they don't even localize 4 and/or wait for 4G.

Naaaah. 3DS dead in 2014 seems a very big claim to do. Especially since there's no sign of piracy incoming.

11./01. [PS3] 2nd Super Robot Wars OG # <SLG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.11.29} (¥8.379) - 24.175 / 241.885 (-89%)

I was wondering, does this take into account the various special and limited editions along with online sales from places like Play-Asia and stuff?

Pokémon starting to show legs, as expected (not by someone, though).

10./05. [3DS] Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Magnagate and the Infinite Dungeon <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2012.11.23} (¥4.800) - 34.598 / 202.940 (-18%)

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team 3rd week : 39,701 / 234,618

it will turn out like the last entry, no more and no less

Vita will have an unprecedented year end sales for as "serious" platform in Japan (Not a Xbox, Neo Geo Pocket, Wonderswan, etc...)

For comparisons sake, Wii Sports sold 176K launch week compared to NSMBU's 170K.

3DS is definitely struggling in the west but it is not close to the level of being dead. Not too mention I'm sure animal crossing and the next pokemon will be out before MH4 which will help things. Also, other than the poor decision to not localize animal crossing I think Nintendo's 3DS support has been good this year. A lot of the localization issues are coming from 3rd parties taking forever.

Just an exaggeration...

And when was it confirmed for Western release in 2014?

And yeah 3rd parties are at "fault" for not localizing too but on their end it makes sense, they want software sales and don't care to support the hardware itself which is what Nintendo should do, so Nintendo should work with more of them to bring their games here and cultivate the platform in a way they too will want to support more in the future. Not just for big titles like DQ.

Dat power of the Holidays.

DAMN. Holiday power in action.

Given the Vita troubles what would be a realistic target HW sales weekly during the holiday season. I mean is it fair to say they should be hitting at least 30k a week?

At least 30K?

At this point i'd say that's optimistic.

What about the theory that 3DS would top last year's holiday sales?

Vita will have an unprecedented year end sales for as "serious" platform in Japan (Not a Xbox, Neo Geo Pocket, Wonderswan, etc...)

Sure about that? GCN was also doing horribly but as far as I remember it always was relatively strong at year's end. Maybe Vita will end the year on a strong note, too.

Up until last week 4Gamer wrote "3DSLL" (all together) and this week they wrote "3DS LL" (with a space). It was a problem to me, I guess for Chris1964 too.

First time after a long time I am in front of PC in time, there is complete match for sw titles, I guess correctly they'd use "Wii U" and not "WiiU" and don't run out of RAM. I think I post the thread without mistake in less than a minute, leave and when I come back 5 minutes later I see something is wrong with 3DS hw.

Is it true animal crossing won't have another shipment until new years? If so that's pretty grim for AC's numbers for the rest of the holiday season.

No but as can be seen it doesn't matter as much since people are also purchasing lots of older titles too.

amazon were saying the 21st the other day

Fantasy Life? But it comes out the 27th.

I hope Brownie Brown will now be free to make more 3DS games. I want to see Magical Vacation 3, or even another Blue Dragon from them, but solo (feelplus helped with BD Plus).

Or better yet, a brand-new RPG with Grezzo, both teams were behind the Mana series at SE.

Vita sales actually DECREASED?! Japan really must hate the Vita. Will it break 50k the other 3 weeks this month?

Japan doesn't "hate" Vita. Its problem is that it sorely lacks exclusive content that appeals to the Japanese market.

On a related note, I'm genuinely curious as to why Bandai Namco and Koei Tecmo are still so bullish on Vita. Well, not that bullish - nearly all their upcoming titles are late ports or multiplatform with one of the other Sony platforms - but certainly relative to other Japanese third parties.

its pretty likely anything being announced now was green lit a long time ago, probably when they still thought it had a chance to make a comeback

Perhaps. But it's worth noting that Capcom, Konami, and Square Enix have (AFAIK) announced literally nothing for Vita this year, and I don't think even Sega has announced anything for it in over six months, since JSR.

its probable many have been but we'll never know
It is possible. They would however had plenty of time to cancel these games as well if they wanted it since we have seen the poor Vita hardware sales for a long time. I dont think they are coming just because it was greenlit a while ago. I think it has more to do with being a port (probably not too expencive in developement cost) and some deal with Sony. Maybe hardware bundles and help with marketing the games.

Wasnt there talk that many Vita games were canceled when they saw the hardware sales?

Almost certain some did, or rather like Bioshock, never entered development. 3DS was publically stated to have that as a potential problem and that was doing far better than the Vita was at a similar timespan.
