Sure they have. It's just that Sony constrained financially. Add to that the fact that the market just isn't that interested in a premium handheld and PS Vita is in a tough spot. I think they will support the vita for another year or two, they cannot EOL it before the PS4 comes out though for PR reasons.
It will be interesting to see if they plan on having another handheld in the future. I'm guessing not because the handheld market is only going to get smaller going forward, and Nintendo is in a far far stronger position wrt IP and balance sheet.
Vita is a really nice swan song as far as industrial design goes.
Well, they did pump out a few new colours in a desperate bid to ignite some more interest, I guess. I suppose my point is that I just don't see Sony throwing themselves at it like they should for a new PlayStation device. All year, it looked like the effort of Sony has been thrown behind the PS3 instead, both from a first party perspective and third party perspective. The problem I see for them is that after this holiday, Sony will likely start ramping up internally for the PS4 leaving the Vita in the same position it has been for the past year; like it is stuck somewhere between a rock and hard place, if you will. I just don't see the Vita having a future because Sony, looking at the way things are right now, will focus more on the console side of things rather than the handheld market.
I agree about the industrial design. Stunning device.
They've put some effort into advertising here in the UK. It's hard to say what kind of effect that is having without hardware numbers though. I'm hoping that they predominantly focus their Vita efforts over here as it seems like Japan has already firmly made its mind up. Handhelds aren't traditionally that big with western devs but if Sony are going to keep the Vita alive, they need to try and change that fact.
True and I've seen more in Canada, but again it isn't simply just the advertising. There just doesn't seem to be a drive for the Vita, like they released it, were happy for it and then realized they made a mistake. I'd like to seem them put more of a focus on the western side of things, because you are right, Japan seems to have made up their mind regarding which they'd be more likely to support. Sony just needs to start really driving the Vita and being aggressive with it.
