Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2013 (Feb 18 - Feb 24)

All I see is 59.68% on the Famitsu graph and 57.44% on the Media Create graph. Both numbers are close enough to round up to 60%.

I think he may be trying to get at the fact that a big release like this on any system will lopside the percentages.
Why ISN'T Brain Age coming out for the Wii U?

It seems like a perfect fit to me.

Because that series is probably dead now? Or at least won't be sold at retail again.

Monster Hunter is already out.
He might've meant DQX?

Speaking of which, PS4 and Wii U now have the same number of upcoming JP made 3rd party games:

Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Online (Square Enix)
Resident Evil Revelations: Unveiled Edition (Capcom/Tose)

Deep Down (Capcom)
Final Fantasy title (Square Enix)

Although of course 1st party is a different matter entirely:

Bayonetta 2 (Nintendo/Platinum)
Game & Wario (Nintendo/Intelligent Systems)
Mario Kart title (Nintendo)
New Super Luigi U (Nintendo)
Pikmin 3 (Nintendo)
Pokémon Rumble U (Pokémon/Ambrella)
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (Nintendo/Atlus)
Super Mario title (Nintendo)
Super Smash Bros. title (Nintendo/Namco)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Nintendo)
The Legend of Zelda title (Nintendo)
The Wonderful 101 (Nintendo/Platinum)
Wii Fit U (Nintendo)
Wii Party U (Nintendo/NdCube)
Wii U Panorama View (Nintendo)
X (Nintendo/Monolith)
Yarn Yoshi (Nintendo/Good Feel)

Knack (SCE/Japan Studio)

What we looking at for vita? 50 - 100k?

25-40k

The vita cut will be far more muted than the 3ds cut was, firstly its a much smaller cut just 5k yen instead of 10, secondly stores aparently have been discounting vita anyway for a while so the drop is effectively smaller still and finally some stores have done the full price drop a week early reducing the impact next week

And this is all without the question of its long term line up and desirability

next week is going to be really interesting, PSO2 is HUGE on PC and these kind of games are popular on handhelds, was nearly tempted to pick up a vita myself with the bundle

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Monster Hunter is already out.

Lol. Then i guess it'll continue to go down and hover at 4k to 6kish for the rest of the year except a little boost from DQX next month. Not having faith that their system sellers like mario kart U will make it this year too.

Really interested in the next month of sales for the Vita. They got more colors and bundles and quite a few games coming out. Crazy to think that for the next month the Vita is going to outsell the Wii U. I love my Vita, but even I thought that wouldn't happen.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I'm really just baffled at what Nintendo is doing. Unless something gets announced very soon, Nintendo isn't going to have a single Wii U release for the entire month of April and into early May, i.e Golden Week.

They have their first 2 legitimate releases since December coming 2 days apart at the end of March and then nothing to follow it up.

I'm perplexed.

System sales are strongly tied to game releases, but I don't think that there is any such thing as sales momentum.

Wii U sales should recover as soon as Nintendo starts releasing games for it. I think that they should just focus on the 3DS until their Wii U titles are ready to launch; it's not that clear they can give sufficient attention to two systems at the same time.

Yeah but the PS4 isn't out yet. Which might explain why its also sub-10k at ZERO.
But I take the point :p; fact is until some of those releases start failing theres not much to discuss. Important to note that NSMBU did alright but probably hasn't been backed enough.

I really think we should just be getting a WiiU Black NSMBU bundle and adverts of NSMBU everywhere.

So? It's the PS3 version of Metal Gear. How does that "not" mean Sony didn't get 60% of software sales last week?

No where in this reality or another did I state this. I said the graph wasn't crazy as it could be explained easily. I even bolded that bit.

Wow, didn't know it was this bad for the WiiU with 3rd parties.

So the only upcoming 3rd party games for the system are a last gen port and a handheld port? Ouch.

Edit: I really doubt the handheld version of Smash comes close to the Wii U version's sales even with how the Wii U is doing.
I think after the close releases (and percieved sameyness, warranted or not) of NSMB2 and NSMBU seemingly negatively impacting each other, Nintendo would be wise to really make more of a distinction between Smash 4 3DS and Wii U and give a much wider buffer zone between their release dates. The Wii U game should be prioritized though, since it needs it much more.

Regarding the declining WiiU sales, I think that while Nintendo showed off something which definitely made RPG fans mark an X on their calendar in the future, what they really need is to show people Y they should buy the system now.

Online-only multiplayer games are not popular on handhelds. But maybe with the price drop it'll do a bit better, I dunno.

Part of me wants to see just how low Wii U can go. Emergency direct with Retro's game, 3D Mario and Mario Kart reveal videos, and Bayonetta 2 reveal!

Edit: I really doubt the handheld version of Smash comes close to the Wii U version's sales even with how the Wii U is doing.

These games will be shown at E3 anyway, low sales won´t accelerate the presentation of those games in my opinion..

Amazing Rising sales. Wow.

Wii U...below 10k and Nintendo right now has zero games announced for April and one game past that- Revelations.

I would have thought the one market Nintendo would have their shit together would be Japan. Appears not.

It's pretty damn amazing, to be honest. Almost shocking. The sad thing is they don't have any games that they can really release right now. So many months with no software is insane. Damn, shocking....

Regarding the declining WiiU sales, I think that while Nintendo showed off something which definitely made RPG fans mark an X on their calendar in the future, what they really need is to show people Y they should buy the system now.

I was gonna post something like this. All the promises for the future won't mean anything with no games to play now. I gotta wonder what they've been doing all these years, because it sure as hell wasn't getting software for the Wii U.

Ok, let's say that Nintendo's titles release this holiday and Wii U actually does decently throughout the holiday. Unless Nintendo can manage to have a consistent release schedule for the console (which will be almost impossible with no 3rd party support) whatever bump they get will just disappear soon after. Just look at the Wii for an example of how droughts destroy a console's sales even with 3 million+ sellers.

Online-only multiplayer games are not popular on handhelds. But maybe with the price drop it'll do a bit better, I dunno.

Well looking at the COMG numbers it seems poised to at least do better than Soul Sacrifice first week, but they could be completely off here.

I honestly don't know what the flying fuck they are thinking down at the House of N.

This is their home market, their bastion of sorts. I'm confident that the sales with pick up pretty well when the good software shows up, but that's just the problem; where tht fuck is it?

Even teasing with a RELEASE DATE helps. It lets people know what's coming down the pipe. Nintendo has left Wii U owners in the dark for far too long, and it looks like its catching up to them.

Are you telling me they should release a Pokemon game?

But those are for the 3DS, not the WiiU.

Have any major one's been released though and shown to fail?

PSO2 is popular and is cross compatible with the PC version right? I think it has a chance to do very well on the Vita. Its also F2P so it will be interesting to observe it in that regard as well.

At least they should have had Pikmin 3 ready for the launch window. They have a serious software issue and it's not like they did not know that. It should have been all hands on deck for Nintendo for a whole to get stuff ready, even if it is just eShop titles.

I don't think it'll be out the woods. A good holiday will just give them breathing space.
They then need to do what they seem to have done with the 3DS and start planning more ahead which they obviously haven't done anywhere near enough of; and ensure from the 2014 holiday onwards they have a strong schedule moving forwards.

Meanwhile inbetween 2013 holiday and 2014 holiday they can release a number of games they'd usually release with the holiday 2013 dev teams moving onto the next game.

Not to mention Nintendo has moved to ensure the development houses it has are performing both handheld and console roles. They should do okay; obviously the 3DS will be the stronger of the two.

They can't magically finish projects though; and rushing behind one to get it at launch would have just mean more delays on other titles which would have been stupid.
I don't see how Pikmin earlier would fix everything for anymore than one or two weeks.

A lot of the holiday software will most likely have ling legs. Mario Kart takes a while to simmer down in sales, does it not?

What a colossal mess the Wii U is in. Everything Nintendo said they wouldn't repeat with 3DS is actually tenfold worse. Everything could have been avoided if Nintendo managed their game development better, but I seriously think Nintendo thought NSMBU was the answer to the 3DS launch problems so they let a lot of things slip.

Why is Nintendo still being secretative about release dates? Where are the third party games? The serious lack of visibility into the consoles release schedule is going to kill Wii U. Who at Nintendo thought it was good policy to not reveal games? Losing sales because people are waiting for games to release is better than having people think your platorrm is dead and get bad word of mouth.

Forget release dates, they need some software now. There really hasn't been crap for a couple months now. The sad thing is there probably isn't anything for a long while coming, so they'll have to let the Wii U languish in some huge software drought for months. Too much of that and I wonder if people ultimately won't care even when the software starts to show up.

It does, but the NSMB series also has legs and we're seeing how much good that's doing the system. Without more software to back up Nintendo's first party, the system will never truly be able to recover. The Wii fell off in Japan faster than anywhere else in the world and that's with being much more popular than the Wii U ever will be and we'll see with Wii Fit U how strong that brand still is.

This is factually wrong

It's reeeal easy to forget the software mess 3DS was in, and it's far worse than Wii U. Wii U at least HAS two strong-selling games out at launch with decent legs. 3DS was a wasteland.

Look at Wii's launch and early 2007 1st party lineup in Japan and compare it to the shitshow we have here.

Future games won't create sales now. They need to treat games as specific releases and plan their promotion to best benefit them and the system.

Just announcing would mean they'd be talking the same thing for months on end.

Or there will just be another large drought.

Or there won't be. Either way its not relevant to sales today or known whatsoever.
