Meet the all-new Kindle family, including the first color Kindle

If he wants to pass down the books, they do. Shit, my family will be getting my steam account.
It was a mild piss take at saying ancestors (people back up the family tree).

It definitely makes sense to pass down digital libraries where possible, and I'm sure it will be increasingly more common/supported as generations go on and more and more people risk losing libraries.

Does the terms of use allow passing on the library to others? I though most of these places had verbiage buried in there that stated you were just "renting" the product and it was tied to you alone. It's largely moot this early into the technology bit wouldnt surprise me to see "legacy digital accounts" terminated in the decades to come.

Though you can download Kindle books and to my knowledge there is no DRM or anything on them.

Is the e-ink display of these kindles significantly better for eye health compared to say an iPad. I already have an old iPad but thinking about grabbing a kindle paper white to read an hour or so before bed. Does it emit blue light that fucks with your sleep like an iPad?

I'm not fully read up on the evidence, but if I recall correctly, there is no evidence that light emitting displays are bad for your eye health.

But light emitting (backlit) displays do make eyes more uncomfortable. Light reflecting ones don't as much (no different to reading from paper).

Front lighting is just convenient lighting for reflective displays and if you don't like it, you can just use any old light.

I don’t know anything about the kindles, but you do know Apple products have a night shift mode specifically for that reason, right?

Not sure why you took such a passive aggressive tone there. It's not a good look, especially when there's no significant evidence that changing screen colour does any good.

Really, if you don't want disrupted sleep from displays, you should not use any light emitting display from a few hours before sleep, no matter the colour or even brightness.

I've got a Kindle Paperwhite. Absolutely adore it. Those that say it's just a crap tablet couldn't be more wrong. It's screen technology is just so good now it's like reading an actual book imo.

I imagine the colour iteration will need a few more generations before it becomes a must have for me, but in terms of easily replicating the look of a text based novel, the Paperwhite has nailed it. The backlight is just subtle enough not to be jarring at night too which is a godsend as I mostly read before kip and the wife would chew me out otherwise.

Absolutely loads of storage, built in dictionary and Wikipedia access. Mine has wireless charging (plus a charge lasts absolutely ages). Perfect imo

Don’t make assumptions on tone when reading text. I was verifying if he was familiar with Apple’s night shift mode, as he specifically asked if e-ink displays emit blue light like an iPad, and the entire point of night shift is to reduce the amount of blue light emitted.

They low-keyed pulled the colorsoft from sale in the UK, the screen adhesive meant a lot of them "yellowed" towards the bottom, It got 2.5 star customer reviews before being taken off and changed to "dispatched in 2-3 months", existing customs are being offered a refund, or they can keep their until they have fixed the issue and get a replacement down the line,

I hear they attempted a "software" fix which and sent some "fixed" models out as a replacement, but they basically just tweaked the warmth setting so you can't have a white screen at all so it's just always yellow :messenger_sunglasses: but hard to believe a company as big as Amazon would be this stupid so take that with a grain of salt
