I got this off Screamscape.com, and I have to agree with his points. I kind of hope MGM doesnt fuck shit up for everyone.

A mega merger is on the horizon that could have devastating repercussions for fans of Las Vegas. MGM Mirage, already a mammoth force in the Las Vegas gaming world, has approved a $7.9 billion offer for for Las Vegas’ other heavyweight chain, Mandalay Resort Group (Formerly: Circus Circus). The Mandalay board has approved of the deal and if finalized it will create a monstrous titan of a company that could use it’s influence to control pricing and future development. MGM Mirage is already a monster of a company by way of the previous merge of the MGM Grand Casinos (MGM Grand, New York, Boardwalk, and the Primm Valley Resorts) and Steve Wynn’s former Mirage casinos (Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio and 50% of Monte Carlo). This previous merger alone has resulted in the average room prices in Vegas seeming to rise up quite a bit over the last several years. Adding Mandalay’s impressive catalog of Vegas casinos to the mix (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, Circus Circus, the other 50% of Monte Carlo) will put one company in charge of the majority of the big name casinos in Las Vegas.
I shudder to think of the effects this may have on us as ride enthusiasts. MGM has almost gone out of their way to ruin or destroy every ride under their control. This goes back to their incompetence and lack of ability to run their own theme park (MGM Grand Adventures) that soon led to it’s destruction. Then we have the poor choice of vendor (Togo), maintenance issues and out of control pricing on the Manhattan Express at the New York Casino. The buyout of the Primm Resorts (Buffalo Bills) that led to the immediate cancelation of the plans for the world’s longest wooden coaster, bad maintenance and operations on all of the Buffalo Bills attractions as well as the end of the dream to eventually expand Buffalo Bills into a full theme park. The destruction of the cool themeing and pirate battles at the Treasure Island with the ill-received retro “T.I” theme and “sexy” Sirens vs Pirates dance-off. The thought of these idiots being put in charge of the Circus Circus Adventuredome, the Luxor pyramid and Excalibur castle is enough to make me sick to my stomach. Imagine paying $12 to ride the Canyon Blaster... the insulting going rate for MGM Mirage’s painful Manhattan Express. Hell, they might just close down the entire Adventure Dome (as they did to their own Grand Adventures park) and turn it into the next Cirque Du Soleil show arena.

This really doesn't effect much, to be honest. No one of moderate intelligence stays in a strip hotel.

Here's a tip for those of you who have never been to Vegas: Get the cheapest room at a hotel/motel OFF the strip. The fact is, you'll probably never use it. Rooms are basically storage for your suitcase. My last 4 day trip to Vegas, I got 8 hours of sleep. There's something to do all through your stay, and since food is plentiful, you'll always be running on a full tank. Also, everything is within walking distance, so no need to rent a car. Just get a cab from the airport to your hotel.

And these people complaining about the rides in Vegas falling to shit.. in my opinion, they're not worth "salvaging". What some consider the best ride, the Coaster at New York, is third-rate compared to any ride at a dedicated theme park.

If you want an adrenaline rush, just split the fee for a helicopter tour with your friends. Or drop a C-note into a high-roller slot machine.

You know it.

I always stay in Downtown Vegas. Great rates and great gambling. I prefer the Fremont St. strip because it's easier to get around... You don't have to walk a mile between casinos and the stakes are low-roller friendly.
