6.3

Is Mega Man X8 a more playable game than X7 was? Sure, absolutely. Is Mega Man X8 particularly fun? No, not really. The shift back to the gameplay style that reigned during the golden era of Mega Man doesn't work to the game's advantage, and, as a whole, the game is beset by so much frustration and banality that it's difficult to recommend. If you're on the hunt for an old-school Mega Man experience, go grab a copy of Mega Man Anniversary Collection, as it will serve you far better than X8.

Why can't they just let it rest?

God, Megaman X was a great game. 7 sequels later, they're not going to recreate anything that good. Sequels of a single spinoff line, nonetheless.

Megaman can suck it.

Give me a new Legends game, bitches!

The X8 demo was an interesting reminder of why I hate all things "old skool" Megaman. Although Axl was pretty damn cool, but is it a boy or girl? Sounded like a girl to me.

If people want to bash Capcom for rehashing in hopes of squeezing the cash cow, they should look at Megaman - not fighting games. Even some of Capcom's worst "rehashed" fighters have had more attention to quality and detail than what Capcom has done to Megaman. While I appreciate the Anniversary Collection, it also shows that Capcom KNOWS they have something which can make money on its name.

Problem is, the last Megaman games Capcom seemed to put real effort into were X1 - 3 and Megaman 7 on the SNES. As soon as the Playstation rolled around, they began to skimp - less overall effort (in terms of length, level design, secrets, etc) was put into each X game from X4 on. Megaman 8 was an attempt at a "classic" style Megaman, and is good. But still suffering from a cut in budget, creativity, and time/effort. X5, X6, and X7, are abysmal and betray staffs which are too small or not given the resources they need. The GBA Megaman Zero series is for the moment, where most of the quality is being put. Those are actually impressive, but still not quite like the SNES games - back when Capcom considered Megaman more than a profitable name, but profitable games which demanded effort in order to produce something that would be a hit.

surely that's a bit premature - x4 and rockman + forte are the best post-nes games in the series.
