Memorial Day Gaming

Is anyone playing anything special to coincide with Memorial Day? I don't necessarily mean games about soldiers and wars (there's only hundreds of them). I'm more curious to see if anyone playing anything special or personal tomorrow.

I have to say I didn't intend to, but I just finished Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and I couldn't have picked a more appropriate time to finish the game. GAF chose MGS3 as their 2004 game of the year, and I agree with the majority of the forum that voted. The game is terrific. But the ending especially and the revelation of The Boss' mission is especially fitting for Memorial Day.

I'm not sure what else to say to start this topic, but I thought I'd make an attempt at a "what are you playing" topic that isn't spoken with lists. So, what is everyone playing on Memorial Day?

I'll probably just spend the day with my girlfriend but I might get some more time in on Baten Kaitos. Hopefully she'll be getting a DS soon so that we can both enjoy gaming together without having to stay at home.

I'm trying to duck out of a family fued so i've been playing some games. Gotta hate it when two seperated families are in town in the same weekend and they want to do stuff with you. "i'm not here, went to Hyrule"

The Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask
The Legend of Zelda Orcarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda WW

Pyschonauts

I'm not planing anything special in particular. I'm just going to continue to plow through Jade Empire, w/ which I'm having a really good time (just starting Ch 3).

I actually just thought about this during a lengthy Metal Gear Ac!d session.

I don't think anything, ever, made me appreciate the sacrifice and realistic plight of what it means to be a soldier than the ending sequences of MGS3.

And I'm not just some shut-in gamer. I have several friends and family who are active soldiers or veterans. I guess no movie or book ever got through to me the way the ending to MGS3 did. It was able to address the significance of the Soldiering Life without politicizing it in a strictly red or blue sense.

Other than that I tend to shy away from military-based games. If any of them really felt truly realistic I'd get into it, but I always walk away feeling like the experience was cheap or phony. Something about the MGS series has always felt more authentic, even though it is extremely quirky at times.

Alright noob, know this about GAF. We don't speak about out girlfriends/loved one's here unless you're Olimario. Your post should have focused more on the topic at hand, and not on just mentioning the "Hey I'm a gamer and I'm gettin laid" kinda thing.

For me, it's anything but memorial day affiliated games. Resident Evil Zero, Lego Star Wars, and HSG:Open Tee.

And if your girlfriend doesn't grow to scoff whenever she notices you're on GAF again, you're doing something wrong.

Odds are I'll be investing some more time into The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. After having it on my shelf since it came out, it's finally found its way into my 'Cube.

Yeah, I'm just a little late to the party. :D

Ah jeez you guys are terrible sometimes :P

I'm going to try and finish up Metal Gear Ac!d...haven't touched it in about a month!

It'd be nice to work out my wireless issues (if tech support is open tomorrow...cross fingers!) and get really into Guild Wars, too.

i'm sorry but...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Because of Episode III, I started playing Knights of the Old Republic 2 again last week. I only went through it once before(as a light side jedi no less), and I started up again playing as a bad guy. I'm near the end and should be able to finish it today.

I'm all into Darkastalkers right now, so I'll be playing some Vampire Collection on PS2 and Darkstalkers Chronicle on PSP. Also got a bunch of PS2 games I need to finish up, like Rise of the Kasai, Haunting Ground, and I still have yet to even start Cold Winter.

...That is if I get a free chance to do so today. I'm stuck at work. :/

I played a bunch of Call of Duty: United Offensive. Fitting I suppose, but not planned.

Pretty amazed at how visceral and intense this linear 'shooting gallery' of a game is. In some ways I find this expansion has more consistent quality to the level scripting than even the original(I just remember how blah the British segment was). That B-17 rail mission was stunning. Hell, every section of the game is pretty awesome.

Haunting Ground isn't doing much for me, the puzzles and environments are pretty great, but I am getting really annoyed running around through previous territory trying to find a hiding place, it's so irritating that it is almost a dealbreaker. I actually think Clock Tower 3 handled that stuff better, even if the AI couldn't figure out how to look behind a curtain. Oh and the dog control is REALLY inconsistent. It is generally creepy though, and the lack of loading is awesome.

I have my eye on Cold Winter instead now. I am liking what I have read of it.

I played a lot of this

Ages and Seasons are so awesome. I'll never understand the hate some people have. I picked them up new and played through both late last summer on my SP, I absolutely loved them. It was like going back in time, not simply due to graphics and all, but playing them just felt like a great gaming experience from the past. I really, really hope the new DS Zelda is 2D, but I'm not holding my breath.

Been playing some Pikmin 2 today myself, should wrap it up later tonight.

I finally beat Devil May Cry 3 today. Vergil was an easy bitch but I had a bit of a problem with the twisted stairways where you had to re-fight previous bosses. I didn't know you could just choose whichever ones you wanted.

You always pop into these threads and throw a wrench into my consumer plans :(
I was thinking the same thing, ha ha.

Always happens too, just randomly pops his head in and confirms that a game I was interested is indeed good and *poof* there goes another $50.
