Men's Hair |OT|

I think the only answer to that one is to spend a lot of time and money finding out what shampoo, conditioner and drying (towel, blow etc...) works for your hair, very few people I know can pull it off but there are some and they all use pretty expensive / specialised shampoo and conditioners, even sea salt sprays, heat protection sprays and the like.

If you have damaged hair then product is sort of needed.

Hmm, interesting. I never thought of that solution before. Maybe it's worth finding out if there is a shampoo/conditioner that can prevent my hair from sticking out when it's short in length.

I wouldn't say I get bothered about it, but I've never really had the balls to try anything more adventurous than just getting it buzzed down all over.

This is its natural state:

No idea where to go from there.

But your hair is perfect, man! It's straight but still quite wavy. My hair is like those brooms you can get at supermarket. I'd love to have hair like yours. My hair can only look like that if I apply some styling wax and provided it's of certain length.

My problem is that my hair is extremely coarse and curly, so really all I can do is keep it short and use conditioner to reduce frizz. It looks fine I just wish I had more options.

Edit: it's also receding, so fuck.

My hair is actually a lot shorter than I thought it would be, and I'm not really sure what I think of it.

Suits you imho, maybe just brush it back with your fingers and some product (not all the way back, just to give it more height).

By the way, in this thread I have discovered how metrosexual I really am...

Edit: this channel is worth a look by the way, it's 2 Danish brothers who do videos on hairstyles, some of them are way out there and the quality varies but they do have some usefull ones, if you can get past the broken English and Euro Techno.

I like the cut i get to some extent, and i straighten it and then apply the red dax wax.

it works wonders HOWEVER i am worried about how damaging the product could be to my hair.

is there any wax out there that holds just as well but isn't damaging my hair?

I've been using a wax just about every day for a few years, I don't see it harming my hair much. What is yours doing, stripping the oils?

haha well it seems fine tbh. isn't thinning out or anything, and my hair still gets naturally greasy like it did before.

i've just heard dax is REALLY bad for your hair.

That guy was blessed with awesome hair. My hair is pin straight (oh so slight curve to the right) and is thick as hell.

EDIT: I used to rock a faux hawk in HS, a Mike Ross (from suits cut in my first two years of university), but now.... :O I rock one of those classy Mario Gomez cuts :D Although it's with much shorter hair, so it's a cleaner and takes much less time to do (around 3 minutes).

I approve of this thread! As I'm getting older here, the usual hair cuts I was getting(Ceaser Cut size 2 clip) for most of my life is just not looking that good as I've gotten widows peak.

I think later tonight I'll post pics of my hair in its natural state, and then what I do with it with gel so that hopefully GAF can lead me to the promised land for my hair.

this thread is depressing for those of us who have hair moving from the top of our head to everywhere else on our body.

/feels bad man

So far most of these styles are for guys with flat/uniform hairlines. What about those of us with extra forehead real estate (widows peaks, that is)?

I get my hair cut at a salon every 3 weeks--any longer than that and I start to get a "newscaster/politician" look going.

My style is somewhat similar to that pic of Jake Gyllenhaal--short on the sides, textured and a bit longer on the top.

This is the product I use, and it's spectacular--a little goes a long way, and it smells amazing.

After years of changing and trying I finally got a decent hair cut. My friend called it the hitler youth.. I punched him in the arm. Will post a picture later.

Anybody know a good moisturizing conditioner for an afro? I use a cheap one right now and my hair gets very dry.

Best thing to prevent dryness is an oil/conditioner combo. The conditioner isn't all that important, just make sure it smells good. Get extra virgin olive oil from the store, put about half a dimes worth into your palm and a dimes worth of conditioner and mix them together with your hands and then coat your hair with it, putting more emphasis on the ends than the scalp itself. Hair should be wet when you do this.

You also need to know what sort of cycle your hair needs. Overoiled can be itchier and feel worse than just a dry head, and hotter months will cause more oil to be generated by the scalp, so get your washing cycle down.

I'll try that today, thanks.

My hair's wavy and on the dry side (kind of crap, long story short). A good shampoo is kind of my white whale, never been able to find one for it. Every 'moisturizing' kind turns things sort of frizzy with a sheen rather than moisturized and thick.

Maybe I should shift my focus to styling products rather than shampoos/conditioners...subbed.

So here's my hair, natural state (washed it two days ago) - picture is flipped though, my cowlick goes towards my right, dumb facetime camera... :

Top was razored, sides and back clippered. When actually spiking it, I've used a bit of either Gatsby's wild shake (the purple one) or Spice Sister's Freeze Wax. For actually combing it, usually American Crew Fiber is my go-to.

My hair looks like this right now
c0olH.jpg

but no highlights, nothing sticking up, and the ends are thinned out a bit.

I can't get my hair any shorter than that without looking stupid (I have big ears and stuff). I'm hoping that in my professional job that I won't need to get a short haircut like in the OP in order to be taken seriously :/

Dude, your hair rocks. I'm jelly.

What the hell can anybody suggest for asian hair? The type that just sticks out EVERYWHERE. I look like I stopped ageing when I was 8. ATM I just buzz the sides and style the top, it's neat and nice, but I want more hair without it being out of control.

I got a shitty haircut at the beginning of the year (two, actually), and I've been trying to get my haircut back to the way it used to look ever since.

I keep going back to the barber roughly every six or seven weeks because there's something wrong with it. Shit is frustrating.

I wish I had good hair. There are rare times I think it looks good in the mirror (has happened at varying lengths) but then, of course, when I leave the house it looks like shit whenever I get to my destination.

Timedog has some of the weirdest hair. It's not straight, it's not curly, it's not kinky, it just is and depending on what time of day or right after he's showered it's a bunch of completely different looks. And he's got some random spots where the hair is thin and straight. If I could chalk it up to one type it'd be eccentric.

My hair is too thick and curly, I've always just cut it short everywhere because I have no idea how to style it or if can even be styled due to how thick and curly it is.

So if my hair is super thick and I think it looks doofy I should ask to get it razored or thinned?

Yes, ask your stylist to run thinning shears through it -- but make sure they don't go overboard, otherwise it becomes very bristly and unmanageable.

A bit surprised how many people here seem to just accept bad haircuts as a fact of life or continue going to the same barber or stylist repeatedly after getting something done that you're unhappy with. While I personally don't keep my hair overly stylish (not to mention I tend to wait more than two months in between cuts), I've never liked the way barbers treat it, and am much more satisfied going to a unisex salon.

It's just way too expensive to go to a salon. I'm happy with my barber, but I have to get a cut once every three weeks and $60 is a lot for a salon cut.

I kind of want this hairstyle but I don't think it would work on me, as my hairline is pretty high. (It sort of looks like it's receding, but it's always been like that.)

I've also never been able to determine what my face shape is, so all the websites that offer tips based on that criteria are useless to me.

I live in a small town that has, like, one salon and it's not very good. I guess I'll have to travel to a larger city to find a stylist that can choose a good style for me. :(

Yeah, of course. Lots of people have good barbers, and it's all about trying the different options that are available so you find what works best.

Is there any easy way to discern a good barbershop from a bad one? I've been to a couple where I live, but they never really do what I tell them or they just aren't skilled enough to do what I ask.

4 walls, a striped pole and scissors don't make any place good or bad. It's all up to the person doing the work.

Obviously it ultimately comes down to the individual doing the work, but I imagine like all businesses there is some indication of skill and ability before you even sit down.

My mother is a stylist and has been cutting my hair since I was 10. I might be moving many states away soon and I'm sad I won't be getting free hair cuts any longer. She does a really nice job of accounting for my slight receding line by texturing the front and I am starting to pick up some streaks of grey which I kind of like. In my facial hair? Not so much.

Been getting salon shampoos and conditioners and products for free. I'll have her mail me stuff! :)

I just got it cut a week and a half ago. Good experience, but I wish I had better product. I'll have to check out the stuff in the OP.
