Mercenaries 2 on Xbox 360?

When we spoke with a Pandemic representative today we learned the developer has softened its tone on the subject of systems. Officially, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is still only scheduled for PS3, and officially there still is no publisher. However, unlike the staunch rhetoric we heard before, now Pandemic is definitely considering it. "There is a possibility of it coming to Xbox 360," the PR representative told IGN.com. "Right now, we have PS3 development kits and it's on PS3, and there is no announcement, but we're definitely condsidering Xbox 360. There is still a lot of time and we haven't ruled the Xbox 360 out. We'll have some news to announce in the next couple of months."
so, its not exclusive on the PS3 anymore?

Sounds more exclusive than I thought it was if they're only considering a 360 version.

AFAIK this isn't an Assassin's Creed-style case of the 360 version hiding in the closet ;) There's apparently really only a PS3 and PC version right now (whether the PC version is just a "companion" version for development purposes, or not, I don't know).

Barring technical issues, I don't see any reason why there couldn't be other versions, though. Assuming no deal is on the table.

Anyway, I hope they show more video of the game soon. I think the "house-of-cards" destruction video might have made them crawl back into their shells a little :/

Wonder why LucasArts isn't doing the honors the second time despite the great sales of the first game?
Pandemic owns the IP, and they may have just not liked working with LucasArts. It wouldn't be the first time.

yeah it doesn't really sound like there is any kind of Sony-paid exclusivity, otherwise they'd probably be saying things like "We are concentrating on Playstation 3 at the moment" or "There are no announced plans for any other versions of Mercenaries 2" or some shit like that. Its probably got to do with some hardware specific features (HDD?) that are making it exclusive to PS3 by default for the moment.

From this article, it sounds like they've finally secured a publisher. One which isn't a 1st party and also enjoys making money.

that reminds me of the Ubisoft statement on Assassin Creed.
now Mercenaries 2 is coming for 360, its time for Assassin Creed 360 version too !

I think it may be because they dont have a publisher so decided to buy into ps3 kits with their own money and just focusing in on one development platform. When they get a publisher, meaning more money, I'm guessing they will start work on porting it over. Unless of course for some odd reason Sony becomes their publisher.

Funnily enough, it's kind of the exact opposite. The world and its mother knows Assassins' Creed is coming to 360 and that there's already a 360 version in development (probably as old or older than the PS3 version). With Mercs 2, there isn't yet a 360 version in the works, and it's still something they're 'only' considering.

You can be sure about AC coming to 360, barring a last minute deal with anyone. The Mercs 2 situation is much less certain right now, except that they're thinking about it.

Yeah, its pretty well known AC is being developed for 360 and PS3 at the same time but the 360 version hasnt been announced. Similarly I think SC4 is the same situation, just with reversed roles.

I don't think this was ever really "exclusive"... they just have no plans to port it to the 360 at this current time. I visited Pandemic at E3 and they just wanted to focus on PS3 developement.

Sadly, they didn't have any plans to take co-op online... :(

Ubisoft denied that "confirmation."
they did not confirm if its a PS3 Exclusive or not

Ubisoft have confirmed no such thing. Assassin's Creed will come on PlayStation 3 and at this time, no other platform has been confirmed.

depending on when it comes out, I'll be surprised if it doesn't come to 360. Given the scope of games this gen, it'll be hard for developers to turn a profit on a console-exclusive game early in the system's lifecycle (when the number of units in customer's hands is so small). The only real "exclusives" we've seen so far are PC-based (Oblivion) or not coming until a year after launch.

That being said, if there are technical reasons for it to be PS3 exclusive ....

Given that they own the IP, the first one sold really well and that whole new Bono deal I bet they can basically sit around and wait for whatever publisher deal they want.

360 downgrade confirmed!

seriously, there is no conformation at this time, that mercanaries 2 is heading to the xbox360 as well. people should stop and dont read crap out of some news.

considering is not the same as confirmed!

You don't want to know what they told me about downgrading. Essentially, if they can't maintain the same quality on 360 they wont do it. Remember, at E3 that nobody was working with Blu-Ray dev kits yet but they were working on systems that would anticipate it.

oh really ?

I'm sure they're gunning for exclusivity money first, and if that doesn't work out, they'll port to 360 if their publisher wants them to.

Mercs and AC will be exclusive for months, likely, and I'm hoping for less months than more.

AC may not even be exclusive for days as far as we know. ;) Its most likely being developed concurrently for all platforms. With Mercs2 Pandemic apparently doesn't even have a build up and running on a 360 kit yet so it could be awhile if they decide to port.

I'm suprised they still don't have a publisher. Maybe they were trying to get Sony to publish the game a la Mass Effect and Microsoft, and Sony balked at the price.

i don't think there is any question as to whether or not the game has a strong potential audience on the 360. If they can afford to port it and dont get a hat from Sony, which these comments could very well be baiting, it will most-likely see a port.

i couldn't care less though. the game looks lackluster from what ive seen so far

Oh, do the rumors say AC on 360 will be released same day as PS3? Maybe I'm just not keeping up. :)

Here's hoping.

Exactly.

Can we please not talk about AC in this theard, it is just asking for disaster. Also I wish I lived in a world where "considering" was a conformation. My parents are "considering" buying me a new car. It would be awesome if that meant it was going to happen 100%.

One of the guys working on it has completely confirmed the PC version, although he says it runs better on the PS3.

yeah. I'm just sayin', these are not the types of game anyone only getting a PS3 should expect to be 'exclusive.' Sony certainly ain't paying for it.

SolidSnakex said:
They've said in both Edge and the IGN interview that the PS3 is what they're building it on.

ok , so id/valve software might be right, its harder to port from ps3 to pc than it is from pc to ps3.

So its confirmed then: Mercenaries 2 IS coming to Xbox 360
