At the risk of bringing up the ignore list debate again, I thought I'd try it. I want to be more of a fun poster, and a little less... dour than I've been recently, and I think that starts with making the optional choice to read stuff from Gaf's worst, rather than have it thrust into threads I'm otherwise really enjoying.

My question is, if someone tags me or replies to me, I'll still be aware of that, right? I don't want to cut off communications, just curate my experience a bit, to focus more on all the parts of Gaf I do love.

How would you want it to work? I don't quite understand wanting to remove someone from the board but also wanting to keep an eye on things they say to you or about you.

Edit: They could have some filtering options I guess, let you see those things from ignored users if you want to, but again it seems like contradictory desires.

Basically, I want to hear if someone is directly addressing me. I'm involved, so that has a different priority level. For example, they may have confronted an argument I made, which I now need to substantiate/reinforce, or maybe they just have something interesting to tell me in general.

As far as the general babbling of political astroturfers, deranged TLoU 2 fans, and console warriors, where it doesn't involve me? Not interested.

I hope that makes more sense. I just want to be able to cut these people out when I'm browsing on Gaf a bit to relax and enjoy myself, so I'm not getting more and more annoyed until I'm slightly unpleasant myself, and also not having fun.

There's a time and a place for confronting people like that, and I'd continue to do it, but I'd prefer to do it on my own terms, pretty much.

I suppose I can understand you wanting to address someone who is reaching out to you or calling you out, but my thinking is just like if their behaviour was bad enough to warrant a spot on the ignore list, I don't know why responding would matter at that point.

I'm all for options though and if they could add filtering to the feature to allow you to be directly contacted or paged by ignored individuals if you so choose, that would be good.

I am sympathetic. Imagine trying to work while a bunch of people burst into your office and start hanging around and chatting everywhere, until you can't even push past them to accomplish simple tasks, basically.

When we chat idly for multiple pages, and bury actual requests, they have to read through all of that, instead of doing their job. Which is irritating for them, I'm sure.

I think we should all try to naturally 'port' our conversations here, even if someone is addressing us there. It's a bit weird, and I feel like it kind of screws up the flow of conversation, but that thread has become a place of business, and there are multiple requests coming through a day, for action, explanation, etc. I understand why they kind of need to keep it clear, and we do have the entire rest of the board to do this on.
