Petrie the tortoise is now out of hibernation and he only wants to do one of two things, fuck or fight and not necessarily in that order.

Same order every January.

Two Arcadia 1150mm (54w) D3+ Reptile T5 Lamp (12% UVB)
One Arcadia 160w D3 UV Basking Lamp
Five 50 litre Canna Coco Natural
One tub of Calcium Dust supplement
One tub of Nutrobol supplement

Well I finally bought a house. Closing date is set for on or around Feb 14. I still have to do the inspection and appraisal and all that stuff but I don't see myself walking away from the deal.

I've been stressing about how I'll decorate. I want the place to look nice but I'm not a very good interior designer. Maybe I'll hire someone.

Congrats brother! Homeownership can be a real pain in the ass but having your rent go to something tangible is a great feeling. Having no landlord to worry about is also a great feeling.

There's a department at my company that is a hybrid between telecom, IT, and software dev. They deal with both old-ass legacy systems and new cutting edge stuff (the legacy is because of healthcare IT and the legal need to keep some stuff around forever). Problem is they document nothing.

My group went out of its way to write a deep web app that contains all of the information about an asset an app owner could want. I myself wrote several processes into that allows them to automate certain maintenance functions. We also have a deep ITIL solution for tracking assets.

They document literally nothing into it. They won't join their servers or devices to the domain, they don't follow standards for configuration, they want to patch all of their own systems so they rapidly fall way out of standard and become glaring security risks.

I am thinking about joining their team. They seem to do fuck all, and do a terrible job of what they do manage to do, and yet are highly paid and protected by the brass. Yea, I think I will look into joining them.

And that's all for tonight dear diary, as those assholes paged me for the third night in a row over something they broke themselves but couldn;t figure it out because they won't write anything fucking down.

ugh

Congratulations! How's work? Everything good?

Have some wallpapers. They really tie the room together.

I started a new job Jan 3rd. Been slow so far but starting to ramp up a little bit more now. Got myself a nice big pay bump as well.

I was thinking maybe wallpaper or an accent wall in a couple rooms, maybe with some panel moulding. I was thinking maybe it's best if I don't do anything major until I've lived in the place for a few months. I don't really have an idea of how I want anything to look so jumping into it might be bad.

I'll also need to finish the basement at some point.

I'm going from a 750 sq ft apartment to a 3 bedroom house with a basement, so it'll be pretty empty to start with.

Wow I envy you for that kind of space. I love living in the city and I'm not the house kind of person (watched far to many horror movies to love having an apartment in the third floor with only one entrance to watch/block) but I'd love to have more room.

If I were rich I'd have a big apartment in city centre rather than a big house.

Anyway, you should definitely take your time with the whole decoration stuff until you know where to go.

i was looking up design styles and I think mid-century modern would be good for the living room. Something like this:

I do have a friend who works as an interior designer so might just hire her.

Very nice!
With your pay raise you should hire her. Live a little.

Getting dressed up in office attire after 2 straight months of WFH feels weird. It's my last time heading in to do a full days work at the current gig. Odd feelings all around but really grateful that this chapter of my life is coming to a close.

Here's to new adventures.

Comedy Central Wink GIF by Drunk History

They called us all into an all hands meeting last week. Everyone looked super uncomfortable in their khakis and polo shirts, and women's business attire. One of the contractors wore a suit and tie for some reason lol. Anyways yea. It was about three straight years of WFH for me at that point. I was shocked my old work clothes still fit the same honestly. So being reassigned to some new client I take it? Or are you jumping ship entirely?

haxan7 haxan7 all I can say, with my most earnest advice, is keep things as minimalist as possible. Nothing worse than moving into a nice new home, and then filling it with way too much stuff in the first year. The less the better. Easier to clean, looks nicer, less to move around, and when your wife inevitably wants to but all new things you won't be saddled with taking a bunch of shit to the dump or trying to sell it or give it all away.

That seems to be the message I’m getting from everyone. Chill out for a while and keep the purchases to a minimum. Probably going to do that. It’s easier that way.

Nothing like strolling into a hotel lobby and laying your unconscious kid down on the couch like a passed out drunk and casually walking up to the desk to check in like that’s completely normal…felt like I carried a huge sack of potatoes from California Adventure for a mile and a half to the hotel to take a nap

Did that with a drunk coworker once. At least she was about 110 pounds. Tall, but light.

Ah, I miss pre pandemic corporate America. Had some good times. Lots of nice hotel rooms.

Hah I’ve had to basically carry a coworker back to the hotel before. Was a few months before she’d make eye contact again when we got back to the home office

And I'm over here trying to explain to my seniors why just putting all our clients on AAD P1 would make everyone's lives easier because of CAPs and shit but being told no because oUr CuStOmErS dOnT lIKe ChAnGE

They're the fuckers who put in for the change control, the customers want the change damn it, it needs AAD P1 features, just don't use the rest, it's fine, there's no other changes than what they're asking for, and it's buying a license and creating two groups

Man I think I could never go to Disneyland again and die happy…maybe I can actually get on that Rise of the Resistance ride tomorrow but I’m sure sick of all the noise, screaming kids, my own kids fighting over whose turn in the stroller, $60 for meals that are terrible, etc…I’m basically the pack mule right now. For every 5 minutes of fun quality time with the kids I feel like there’s 90 minutes of bullshit while someone pickpockets me.

Aaaaaanyway, one more day then our flight home gets in at midnight and back to work first thing yeehawww

I watched it on Youtube, saved a ton of cash and didn't have to queue.
Not quite the same as walking through a real life sized star destroyer hangar bruh 🙃

Worth all the hassle? Probably not but it was impressive as hell

Edit

Also holy shit Americans are fat. I live in one of the fittest states in the nation and mostly see other adults at the gym or office I guess, because walking around Disneyland feels like culture shock. Holy shit every woman is spilling out of their leggings and Mickey sweatshirts

My neighbor who's a lovely smart woman but lacks any sort of content filter sent me a message this morning. A severed Donkey head to show what variety of meats they had to eat in her hometown while she is vacationing during Chinese new year. Great, thanks for that.
So did you eat some donkey? I tried kangaroo in Australia, you should try donkey in China
