Metal detecting is a bit of fun now and again. My son mucks around with it and I'm along for the ride to take him. He has two little gold slivers he found in a dried riverbed elbow, probably worth about $75. Pretty good fun and there's plenty more to nature while you're out there. If we're on a camping trip my son and I fish basically every morning/evening peak times for an hour or two. Wife and daughter usually go kayaking. Later on, my son always goes solo in our second kayak for what looks like the most awkward fishing apparatus ever but he's mad keen. I just kayak, photograph and leave my fishing to boats or land etc.
The only picking of mushrooms I do is ingredients for cooking. Tried shrooms when I was a late teenager, bit of fun a couple of times but not something I'd ever stick with. Plenty of friends enjoy them.
As for fishing, a spot of beach or river fishing is our go to but we'll charter a boat for half a day or a full day and go deep sea if we have some numbers or keen conditions. I'm adding to my collection with my first solid beach rod for this spring/summer, a mate of mine has a boat and is a fishing/hunting nutter and he's giving me some tips on his locales near us and seasonal whatnots. Always good to have options with you for different fishing environments.
