Metal Gear is acclaimed franchise, but it was never perfect - just like everything else, it had its problems...

This scene wasn't one of them.

this is bait btw

I liked the first game on NES the most. Just innovative and fun gameplay, not hours of cringe and stupid dialogues/cutscenes.

The biggest flaw of MGS franchise is also its greatest strength and it's called hideo kojima.
That dude is the incarnation of "for better or for worse"

Kojima is a bad dialogué writer, the dialogue sometimes is so cringe. He needs a writer so bad. I used to love his games. But as technology has progressed his filmaking and camera direction has gotten better his writer skills has worsen:

Metal Gear desperately needs critique by people who weren't between 15 and 25 when the series was at its peak.

I kinda enjoyed MGS1 for what it is, but even MGS1 had shit that would make people walk out of the theater if it was a parody movie.

Meryl: "War is so cool!"
* gets shot *
Meryl: "War sucks!"

I mean, even if you really love the series for some reason, you have to admit that that Big Chungus MGS video would fit in an actual MGS game way too perfectly.

I think there's a charm to Metal Gear's flaws that endears them to people. I think it not being perfectly polished or focus group tested can be part of the appeal.

A bit ago, on a bit of a nostalgia kick I looked up the MGS4 thread. It was an incredible OP that went for 39 posts. It's a pity that a lot of the media in it has now disappeared, but sadly, that's the fate of a lot of digital material from that era of the internet. I remember a bunch of us adapting our avatars into MGS4 versions.
