Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence screens (multiplayer)

You mean you like the camera angles in MGS3? I'm only starting to play it but if there's one thing I can change it would be the camera. I can't see anything. o_o

RE games (except 4) have bad cameras, but that result in awkward control. You can still see what's going on. I'm not trolling or anything, just curious why people prefer that camera.

I imagine that the new camera angle will be a completely different experience, hell almost a completely different game. I still want to be able to play the original MGS3.

yes you will be able to change the camera at every moment in-game.

it's not a choice you make at the beginning of a game like a difficulty, you can switch the 2 camera angle at any time.

PS: can someone please upload a screenshot of how the new camera angle looks like from the trailer? I'd like to see it but I don't want to see that trailer because I still need to play mgs3 & I don't want to see any character besides Big Boss so I want my experience to be spoiler-free. :)

@ members asking what modes MGS3: Subsistence have:

2 modes * one regular TDM mode: 3vs3 (no big boss, just guards vs guards)
* Big boss vs guards: 1vs5

in this second mode, guards will have a First Person vision!!!

PS: Hideo Kojima is aiming for max. 8 players so that would make 4vs4 and 1vs7.

All the regular things from the SP experience will be available in the MP. (guns etc) also CQC & camouflage index will have a big role.

@ Eva's crouching scene: there will be a EVA peepshow, dirty Kojima.

I'm really digging the online portion.

If the game even comes close to being a midway between Splinter Cell and SOCOM, I'm there.

Can't wait for this bad boy! I have some questions though: First does it include MGS2 and MGS1? Second, when is it coming out?

It includes MG 1 and MG 2, ports of the original MSX Metal Gear games. If you're expecting it to include MGS 1 and 2, you're in for a disappointment.

Kojima already said that they won't do an xbox port, because it would delay MGS4. You're the one that's hoping for a port that will never come. :lol
Sure. But I only said that because he clearly doesn't want this on Xbox.

Anyway fuck me I saw those pics again and got all excited -- imagining what it would be like. How can this not be amazing

This is going to be awesome. It'll be interesting to see how the multiplayer turns out. I mean, will hiding in the box fool anyone? Maybe they'll modify it so it can.

Somewhat offtopic, can someone post the large MGS3 Calorie Mate ad picture? I seem to have lost the copy I had.

Wow, that trailer made me crazy happy.

Listen.....I haven't been following the "Subsistence" version....did they fix the fucking camera?!?!?!? HOLY CHRIST, THEY LISTENED!

Does the PAL version have this camera? Because basically this is vindication for people making excuses for a dumb as fuck camera (for what was in spite of the problem, a great game). If it doesn't....PALOwned!

Yeah the camera looks interesting, but other than that it doesn't seem like a major upgrade compare to the PAL-version.

The online will probably suck so I don't care that much about that. And besides, MGS3's camo download was a big, big failure. 800k per camo? Those damn files eat memory cards.

Why would it suck? Subsistence also features the never released MSX versions of MG1 and MG2, the secret theatres, and as you mentioned the brand new 3d camera that everyone has requested which significantly changes the way you play the game.

The camera is a welcome change, if only for the fact that now it'll most probably be in MGS4. And I totally agree about the camo d/l, WAY too big...had to delete them cause they took up too much space :(

Well I dunno, I haven't played a single good online game on PS2 :S

And those other things you listed is why I'm buying this. Finally I get to play the old Metal Gears :)

A couple of questions:

1. Should I wait for this or buy the original this summer? Does the different camera angle make the game much easier or more fun to play?

2. Will this version support 480p?

EDIT: Because I spell like a 4 year-old.

Damn, if it's coming out this summer, I'd wait. "funner" would probably come into play here. The developer doesn't add a camera option if they don't realize that it's archaic fucking trash for 3D action games <head is cut off by Tecmo ninja>.

I doubt it, otherwise why wouldn't the original MGS3 use 480p? It would be nice though, bcause MGS3 looks terrible on my HDTV.

Ebgames has a guesstimate date of Nov 14th, but this would be an awesome summer surprise if they somehow got this out that early.

Quite frankly this game would be beyond godly if they somehow got 16:9 and/or progressive scan to work with this, but I have a feeling it'll still be 4:3 480i though.

The new camera should be very interesting to play around with, as there was a few sequences (like only 1 comes to mind now that I think about it) that chug quite a bit in the framerate department in first person mode.

It's moody and cinematic, and it doesn't ruin the gameplay if you know how to play properly. I like it a lot, but for purposes of online mode, the normal camera will be a must, I agree.

R&C 3 beta testing was some of the most fun I had online :) then again I play online games every other year or so, as I mostly don't care about that type of gaming. MGS3:S has me interested, that's for sure, especially the 7 vs 1 mode which is very much in the spirit of the series.

Quite frankly this game would be beyond godly if they somehow got 16:9 and/or progressive scan to work with this, but I have a feeling it'll still be 4:3 480i though.
If you care enough about it to spend some extra money, the game almost ceratainly would work in prog scan using that blaze adapter.

I agree that it doesn't ruin the gameplay. But it's definitely prohibitive.

Blaze adapter? tell me more & linked please!

I don't even worry about that anymore...

The scaler in my Sony TV kicks serious ass. I've never seen a built in scaler of this quality in a TV. In some cases, the image it produces is better than whatever your system might be outputting. All of the games running on the Jak engine, for instance, look better in 480i mode. MGS3 looks quite amazing now. It is only 30 fps and didn't use field rendering, so there are no movement artifacts and the game really does look as sharp as your average 480p XBOX title.

My previous set had an awful scaler, though, and MGS3 suffered greatly.

nope - but you can be sure, that there will be a pal version of subsitence too. the question ist, what other extras will konami be packing (we got the document of metal gear dvd with the substence version of mgs2 for free, but konami wanted full price for that game) in and to what price they will sell it.

Dark, what is your TV?

Blaze adapter? tell me more & linked please!
It's the adapter that forces PS2 games that run in full frame buffer mode but don't support prog scan natively (Such as Silent Hill 2/3/4, MGS2/3, ZOE2, and many others) to output in progressive scan. It comes with a boot disc that asks you to swap the game you want to play, and then the game runs in prog scan. You don't need a mod chip or anything like that.

It has some drawbacks though. It outputs VGA signal so you're best of using the PC monitor for display, unless you have some kind of VGA->Component converter. It also sometimes requires some adjustments to the picture position/size, so again it's easiest to use a PC monitor, but you can also change that sort of things in the service menu on a TV.

As for the link, just serach the web and you'll find it in various online shops. Here's one I got that has the US version of the adapter:
