May 04, 2005 - Celebrated videogame composers Tommy Tallarico (Advent Rising, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Earthworm Jim) and Jack Wall (Jade Empire, Myst III: Exile, Splinter Cell) will be producing Video Games Live, a touring concert billed as an immersive, audio and video experience based around the music of popular video games such as Mario, Zelda, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Warcraft, Myst, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Medal of Honor, Sonic, Tron, Tomb Raider, Advent Rising, Headhunter, Beyond Good & Evil, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, EverQuest II, plus recognizable tunes from such arcade classics as Pong and Donkey Kong.

"Fans of videogames are going to be amazed at what we have in store for them. Never before has the music of video games been presented on this scale. Live entertainment is about to evolve," said Tallarico. "Videogames have become one of the most thrilling and electrifying forms of entertainment in the 21st century. We intend to capture that same excitement level to help create the ultimate celebration of video games for everyone to enjoy."

The kick off show for the national tour will take place July 6th at the world famous Hollywood Bowl, where the Los Angeles Philharmonic will perform while lasers light up the Southern California night sky. Video Games Live will also be traveling to such celebrated venues as Red Rocks in Denver, CO, Chastain Park in Atlanta, GA and Tweeter Center in Boston, MA, with more dates and venues to be announced..

"Videogame music is not bleeps and bloops anymore. People are absolutely shocked when they hear this music," stated Jack Wall. "This music represents a true art form. The success of this tour will demonstrate to the world that videogame music can command the attention of gamers and non-gamers alike."

There will be an additional segment in the show where chosen audience members will compete against each other and play a videogame live on-stage. The game will appear on a massive screen while the orchestra plays the music and follows the action in real time.

I hate that Tommy guy. And not just because he's got lot of money. But, damned if I'm not going to buy tickets to this event. I missed FF in concert, I won't miss this!

Tron? Hey, that's pretty cool, but what the hell are Headhunter and Ghost Recon doing in there? And where the hell is Psychonauts? Ticket prices aren't bad, so I am tempted to go.

Calling Tommy Tallarico a celebrated composer was cute. But, shit, if they're actually putting together an orchestral concert, as in, with an orchestra, I will be so down for this if they come near my area.

What. What is this, a ticket to sit in your car in the parking lot?

My wife and I are going. Why not have a GAF meet up at the event. Everyone bring your PSP's so we can have a WiFi party at the Hollywood Bowl. =]

I think that simply gets you into the concert; you then stand and watch in the very back. At least, they had those the last time I went to the opera.

And it's nice to see it'll be in Boston. It's no NYC Lincoln Center, but it's pretty damned close.

Everyone could hold their systems high in the air and illuminate the bowl in a superlative almost zen-like moment.

I'm suprised Tallarico let anything from Nintendo in to this show. I'm guessing nothing will be performed from the Metroid Prime games.

So far, nothing from the Metroid series has been confirmed. A real shame, too, because I want some freakin' SUPER METROID LIVE action goin' on.

having random people play the game is kinda stupid though. there's a good chance that the person picked will suck at the game

that said, if i was picked, i would purposely die at every opportunity to throw off the ochestra :lol

It's playing in Boston...

I should have been more specific. When will New York/New Jersey vgm lovers catch a break?!?!?

I live in southern Jersey, and the locations for the FF concerts so far are just kind of frustrating. Hartford, CT is the only 'close' one announced, and I can't make it to that one. Boston (for VGL) is farther away. You'd think New York/Philly would get a concert. I mean, they are kind of major places...
