Negative. Whale is a boss, part XOF's top secret Omnipotent Ocean unit.
 
Do we really know that Mantis is an antagonist in this? He was FOXHOUND with Ocelot later on in life (20 years later), after all, along with Wolf who Big Boss saved at some point. On the other hand, if he's responsible for the fire apparitions, than he's sending the flaming unicorn after them. So many questions, lol. Maybe he starts out as a villain, and then is saved/recruited by Big Boss later on.
 
I certainly felt a little bit of nostalgia and when i saw the mother base being destroyed in the trailer, after all the time we spend in the game building it and recruiting all the soldiers. I definitely felt like if something i actually own was actually being destroyed.

Btw, to the people saying that Solid Snake would be around 11 years old by the time Big Boss awakens from the coma, are you guys taking into consideration the rapid growth problem of the clones? we already saw in MGS4 how old Snake got in such a little amount of time, so Solid Snake could very well look like a 18 years old man if the rapid growth problem was present since his creation.
 
There are a few things messing with BBs head in that scene so hallucinations are a good bet:

- Just woke up from a 9 year coma
- Just got a drug injected in him
- Kid Mantis

The clones have accelerated aging once they reach their 'expiry' date. They don't grow faster from the beginning from what we know, Snake looked normal for his age before he hit that ceiling.

And yeah, the motherbase sequence definitely felt more powerful thanks to Peace Walker. I built that shit brick by brick ;(
 
Here's a thought I have. Maybe next gen isn't in the equation because Kojima is planning some kind of system detecting shenanigans that would be hard to replicate with a new and unfamiliar system. With Mantis and hallucinations being prominent, you never know what Kojima will cook up. Those elements are what I most look forward to. MGS's Mantis battle and secret codec, 2's virus fucking with our minds, 3's Sorrow battle featuring every soldier you killed and 4's flashbacks and beauty chase modes were all fantastic and only possible in this medium to affect the audience as well as the character.

From recollection just about all of Foxhound in MGS1 had a connection to Big Boss right?
Would be cool to see a lot of those characters again in their beginnings.

I kinda have an idea. Maybe the original octuplets were numbered before most were aborted (to encourage strong fetal growth). Now, a lot of people are assuming that the bandaged guy is a young Solid Snake, but I think it's either Liquid Snake or Solidus.

Eh fyi Rising was in development hell of course they didn't contact him so early, according to an interview with Kojima he said MGS5 is right on schedule.

Is it a general clone thing? I thought Snake's accelerated aging was a side effect of his FoxDie infection. Or am I mixing stuff up now?

The situation is very different with MGSV. Flynn made that comment in May of 2011. That was when Rising was basically canned, and Kojima was trying to get Platinum on board. So it makes perfect sense that they wouldn't contact him when they didn't even know if the game would be made.

FOXDIE is an engineered retrovirus developed by the DIA for the Pentagon. It is programmed to kill specific people by identifying the person's DNA and their nanomachines then causing cardiac arrest. The only known host for FOXDIE was Solid Snake.

The FOXDIE virus enters macrophages in the target's bloodstream, then uses enzymes to attach to a DNA sequence that it has been "programmed" to recognize. Once the virus is attached to the DNA, the macrophage starts to produce the cytokine TNF (tumor necrosis factor) epsilon. The TNF-epsilon is carried along with the blood, to the heart, where it binds to the TNF receptors, causing the myocardial cells to die. This programmed cell death is called apoptosis, which leads to the victim suffering a heart attack. Natural heart attacks occur when the heart cells die from lack of oxygen and sugar, usually caused by a blocked coronary artery.

From his conversation with Naomi in MGS4:

Snake : So does the aging have something to do with FOXDIE, too?

Naomi : No. Your telomeres were intentionally set up to be short,
regardless of the age of the original. One of the genes that
inhibit reproduction and aging - the Klotho gene - was
intentionally mutated as well. But more importantly, your
chromosomes, like Liquid's... Were provided with terminator
genes to prevent them from making copies.

Snake : Why?

Naomi : You are clones created for one purpose - war. And so in
order to prevent you from being abused by clients or stolen
by the enemy... They shortened your lifespan and removed
your ability to reproduce. It was a safety device to ensure
that the seed of Big Boss didn't end up in the hands of
others. The reason you're aging so rapidly isn't because of
disease, or faulty research, or FOXDIE. It's how you were
born. It's your natural lifespan.

Snake : The truth, Naomi. How long is my body going to hold out?

What I would like to know, is, in the trailer, at the beginning after the doctor say Snake is in a Coma. Miller say : What about him ? Looking at the camera (at us) like we were a protagonist.

I was a part of that club until I stopped caring. Cam Clarke is a greater loss than Hayter, IMO. I was fucking livid when they announced there would be no Cam Clarke in MGS4.
