Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

is it just me or has the hype for this toned down a bit?

Mostly you. Some of it is concerns of the microtransactions/real-time or game time needed to build up Mother Base. Then there's the entire Konami clusterfuck surrounding all of it.

Edit: I'm actually replaying GZ on XB1 right now since it's free with Gold. Think I'll still keep to the PS4 version but it's not terrible. Never tried going full dudebro FPS before, 4 Marines actually setup a defensive position outside Paz's cell. Pretty cool.

Part of it has to do with the Kojima debacle, another part has to do with the sheer scope of the game. Mother Base by itself looks like 50 hours of gameplay. That does not take into account missions or anything.

If you'll excuse me I'm going to head over to the community thread and recklessly speculate about the game some more.

I feel they have showed way too much before release quite honestly

I think we'll have to wait for the full release to judge that. I agree that, right now, it feels like they've shown too much but it's entirely possible that they've shown what is actually a minimal amount.

I'm hoping that's the case, anyway! Will there be a Raiden level twist? I doubt it. BUT, I do like to think the game has so much more to show us.

Personally I feel they haven't shown nothing Storywise which is what matters ultimately.

Not for me it ain't. You could give the game with 0 story content and it'd still be my most anticipated game. There just isn't that kind of ambitious stealth game design to be found anywhere else currently.

Hey do we know what carries over from Ground Zeros yet?
Sneaking suit.
Glaz and Palitz.
Captured MSF prisoner.
Kojima.
Escaped prisoner.
CIA agent.
Bald soldier.
Prisoners.

How many of the standard prisoners that carry over is unknown. I imagine they'll limit it or I'd have a fully staffed Mother Base right at the start with my 300+ prisoner extractions.

They could just make those guys all low skill level recruits and give you plenty of cause to keep extracting more in the field when you get to TPP. It'd give you a leg up but without removing that aspect of the game entirely.

Shit, I really need to extract Glaz and Palitz, it's too damn hard!

My hype is through the roof, and it only really began since E3 2015 and the current Gamescon Demo.

MGSV really looks like the ultimate stealth action game. Has a game ever done open-world stealth like this, and with this many creative ideas?

I'm seriously hyped. This and Mario Maker are probably all I'll buy for the rest of the year.

True, but even an R&D unit full of Rank E staff will gain a good amount of levels and unlocks -- though any unlocks still need to be developed and you just won't have the GMP for a while.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle it.

It's not too difficult if you kill everyone you encounter but the two of them:

-From the start sprint and refelx the guy smoking.
-Sprint and reflex the guy near Chico's area by the gate.
-Wait for the two in the jeep to arrive and take them out.
-Sprint up the left road and shoot the guy walking around the camp perimeter.
-Shoot the guy in the watchtower.
-Sprint to where Palitz is walking with his escorts, tranq Palitz and kill the rest.
-Carry Palitz back to the jeep by Chico's area and set him in a seat.
-Now just head to the AA gun by the bridge and wait for Glaz to walk by with his single escort.
-Tranq Glaz, put him in the jeep with Palitz and drive out of there.

Bear in mind that we've been shown one mission, as well as a handful of Mother Base systems, the buddy system which is probably not all-inclusive, a handful of vague journalists accounts of another mission, a few weapons and gadgets and a few other assorted features.

TPP is supposed to be 200x bigger than Ground Zeroes, and ontop of that, it's said to have 100+ Hours of content. We've heard from more than one source that you can play for days straight and still find new things.

I think they've shown us a lot relative to other games, but sweet FA compared to TPP's true scope.

Still wondering how the game starts -- not convinced we don't play the main GZ mission again when we boot up TPP. Especially since GZ owners are able to visit Camp Omega again...

I don't expect any big surprises at the very start.

He will wake up in Cyprus [with maybe few flashback of him burning after destruction of GZ motherbase], and real mindfucks will start arriving during his escape from hospital.

I've wondered this. I can't imagine we'd play GZ again, considering it's been free on PS4, Xbox One and as a pre-order incentive on Steam... I get the feeling Camp Omega in TPP will probably be a new set of side missions, etc. for previous players?

When you consider that Camp Omega is also independent of Afghanistan, Africa and Cyprus... The only confirmed locations of TPP so far, It is a strange thing.

Yup camp omega is located in cuba

Precisely. Now, unless there's a mission that you get from Kaz along the lines of "Hey Boss, we've just heard of a super ballin' soldier chillin' in Cuba go get him Fido", I can't imagine that there's any real story element in going back to Cuba.

I personally think that Cuba will just be a fun little Sandbox with a couple small tasks that you can do in TPP for previous players, maybe utilising dynamic weather and the 24 hour cycle (which would be REALLY cool, don't get me wrong!)

Will Konami also purge this poster from the game? :D

If Konami remove that poster, I will eat all 4 of my cats.

For some reason I've had no interest to play Ground Zeroes. When it came out I told myself I'd play it before TPP came out, but here we are three weeks from release and I still have very little desire. I'm hyped as hell for TPP though.

I think it's worth it to get used to the mechanics.

It's been in both PlayStation Plus and Games for Gold. You really should check it out! Even if you pick up a used copy, it's incredibly solid on its own.

My guess is that
you play the first section of the game in Big Boss' coma. No Ground Zeroes. The game starts, you're awoken by a man with a bandaged up face. Likely the young psycho mantis type character is manipulating Big Boss' mind. You escape the hospital, find Ocelot, have a baddass horse back battle with the "man on fire" as your enemy. You make your way to a lighthouse on the coast. May possibly find some manifestation of The Boss there, then you wake up. Back in the hospital. A nurse finds you, Dr. Madnar tells you what happened and then onwards from there I can only assume come across Ocelot who has begun building Mother Base, and then go rescue Miller.

Probably 100% wrong. :D

Dont really understand why you wouldnt be excited now. It will tie directly into V and has great visuals and gameplay just like V. Basically it is a prologue to V. Kind of makes no sense, especially now that its free.

Play it. Not only is it super repayable, you'll be zoned in with the controls when TPP arrives.

I don't understand. LOL.

Well, I'm generally not to fond of when they break games up and release them separately, especially in this case, selling us a prologue for 30 bucks. Maybe I'll give it a rent though.

Pretty sure that poster was a placeholder "joke". They were actively looking for new staff for the [then] newly established Kojima Productions LA. That poster is basically a "Kojima Productions is looking for new employees" leaflet.

Bear in mind that without Ground Zeroes, we would have had to wait another year and a half for any sort of update on what the new Metal Gear will be like. Ground Zeroes is a huge game in its own right (much bigger than MGS2's tanker by comparison.)

Everything you heard about GZ being a demo or just a prologue is a gross underselling of how great a game it actually is. I've somehow sunk about 40 hours into it so far and I'm going back to it tonight because this wait for TPP is just too friggin sluggish.

Blame Konami it was supposed to be one full package. MGSV = GZ&TPP so you should play it. Plus it directly follows the events of PW.
