Going by the screen blurring, I'd imagine the in-game implementation is FXAA.

I thought that was an unsubstantiated claim that was later discredited. I may be mistaken though.

well I only played Witcher 3 on console and it looked like playmobil to me. I don't mean that games have to look realistic or natural, but something always seemed off in TW3 to me. Like the different elements aren't meant to be together.
I'm a complete noob when it comes to technical details and I didn't want to start a debate. Just overreacted to a overstatement (MGS5 looking like last gen compared to TW3).
Can we at least agree that the animations are vastly superior in MGS5?

I've just reached the Mother Base directly after the first level.
I'm running the game maxed out from my SSD with HBAO+ forced via Nvidia Inspector (in-game SSAO off). GPU is in factory OC mode running between 1392-1404MHz. To maintain a framerate of 60 fps or above at all times (even during cutscenes with heavy DoF or particle effects), the maximum I can push the DSR is 1440p (native 1080p display), with GPU usage anywhere between 45-95%.
(2880x)1620p DSR (otherwise known as 2x or sometimes as 1.50x super-sampling) I was getting a 60 fps lock, but once the heavier particle effects would kick in, it would drop into the sub 40s (especially during the intro area). At 4k DSR, I was getting an average of 44 fps in the first level while free-roaming.
RAM/VRAM usage is very low, at only about 3.5GB/2.5GB respectively. My CPU doesn't seem to be terribly tasked in this game either; it's barely pushing 20% usage so far. One thing I'd like to do is disable in-game FXAA and force SMAA via SweetFX, but the game doesn't currently have an AA "off" option, and I can't get Reshade to work yet.
Minor quibbles though. The game is a "solid" step up from Ground Zeroes in about every area visually, and it's running great.

Holy shit that looks great. I wonder if I should finish up The Wolf Among Us and Bloodborne in hopes that we'll get the mod sooner rather than later.

Hoping to get stable 60fps on 1440p. Stable 1080p60 seem to be guaranteed, from what info I could gather.
Tried with HBAO+ while messing around in the first open area.
My sweet point in order to have consistent 60 FPS is 2103x1183.
Not that much, but still better than 1080p, since IQ is not that stellar.
BTW, I'm really loving the graphics, but there's no need to bury the head in the sand: from a technical standpoint it's a game that screams crossgen.

Performance has been almost flawless so far, save for the fact I keep getting crashes down to single digit FPS when I enable HBAO+ during cinematic sequences. Also enabling HBAO+ will drop me from 60 to ~50-52 FPS when overlooking a large base like the one you rescue Miller from in the beginning of the game. Has anyone experienced similar performance hitches with HBAO+ enabled? Otherwise the game looks and runs great.

I am pretty sure you could manage 4K everything maxed...
In my brief testing, HBAO+ has an additional 10% performance hit when compared to the in-game Extra High SSAO. The difference visually isn't massive (SSAO is obviously less accurate, both implementations tend to cover different areas), so if you need a performance boost, that would be the first thing to disable.

I'm not actively playing at 4k but I just tested it out via DSR in the open world and on a 980ti it runs at about 40fps on average with everything maxed.

Ugly? No. But it doesn't look as impressive as one should think. The Witcher 3 downsampled on 4K looked incredible and far exceeded nearly any game out there. That said it doesn't have the animation or the silky smooth 60fps.

Yeah, for me the controller is the preferred way to play this game, but the lack of precision with the thumbsticks compared to the mouse is unfortunate. I'd play KB&M if the cqc and various other controls didn't feel so awkward... I'm gonna stick with the controller.

I'm finding them to be quite good! Definitely an improvement over GZ. Mouse aiming in particular feels excellent and there's not a hint of acceleration from what I can detect.

I definitely have a few dips below 60, to 55 at the worst, running around the world. Even when I am not doing anything but looking at a little village. 980ti at 1440p with everything up. Kind of surprised by that.

That is exactly what the Nvidia guide shows. At 1440p maxed, dips below 60 occur on a single GTX 980ti. 1440p is still a very taxing resolution.

Same with me. Now that it's out on PC, I'm starting over and discovered the emblem creator on PC has some kind of bizarre performance bug. I turned on an FPS counter and watched it drop from a steady 60 down to literally 0-3.
Running this on a 970, and curious if others are experiencing the same issue. I started with the background and foreground images, which were fine. The issues started popping up as soon as I went to the text options and cycled through the various types of text available (letters, numbers, phonetic alphabet codes, etc.). Cycling through those and trying to pick text choices from the list nuked the frame rate, and the longer I stayed in it, the worse it got.
As soon as I exit the emblem creator, the game performs smoothly again.

I get them occasionally too. It's usually not too noticeable with gsync, but it'll just be in the most random spot when it does happen. It's so infrequent that it doesn't bother me, but it does stand out when it happens. The cutscenes have been the most inconsistent in my experience. I didn't play with HBAO+ though as I thought it was just part of the package in menu after the advertisement. Will get that going tonight.
I'd say they are okay. A few odd bindings, like V being the key to control the zoom as it's a bit awkward to push when you have to hold F for your binoculars. And for whatever reason the game doesn't support a 5 button mouse, so you'll have to use your mouse's 3rd party software to make a bind. I put the top mouse button as the V key for zoom and the second one as a "slow walk/sneak" button. Other than that though, aiming is great with the mouse and I'm way more accurate than when I try to use my controller(surprise surprise)
This has been my experience too. 2880x1620 runs with minimal issue at 60fps about 95% of the time it seems, more so if you have gsync.
Denuvo guys just said it does not , but no way of really knowing and testing yourself as even cracked denuvo games doesnt have this protection removed , only emulated in some way. So you can't test it and prove or discredit it yourself.
And I just dont trust Denuvo crew at all as they are pretty much renamed poeple behind SecuRom, which was almost as bad as StarForce iirc, and from what i heard even some ex-crackers)

I was getting uneven frame pacing in-game, so I switched to half-refresh rate (120Hz) with a 60Hz cap using Afterburner and it's been perfect ever since.
Willing to bet what they're perceiving as more "shadow detail" on characters is actually the X1's lack of subsurface scattering.
