Metroid Prime Trilogy WiiU |OT| - Samus it Ever Was. Now with Ridleyculous low price!

For newcomers:

1. Play on Veteran difficulty. It's the original games' Normal. Trilogy's "Normal" is a new easy mode.

2. Enable "Advanced" sensitivity at first. If it's too fast, then turn it down.

3. Your game settings are universal across the three games.

4. Know that Echoes was designed as an incredibly challenging game for hardcore fans of the original Prime. When starting the game, make sure you can play almost every day until you finish it. Echoes' world is a labyrinth of twisting passages that exists in two parallel worlds you can hop between (it wouldn't surprise me if the level designers came from NASA or some shit, it's that crazy), so it's easy to get lost if you forget the layout - a difficult hole to climb out of, especially later into the game. Echoes is a thoroughly challenging game that takes a considerable amount of skill and dedication to complete, though the satisfaction gained from mastering it is immense.

I have played all 3, and I own Corruption. I never got to finish Echoes, and last time I played Prime was yeeeeeeears ago, its gonna be great to dive in again, I don't even remember most of what happens in the first game, and I didn't play half of the second one. It's time.

This is the videogames deal of century.
I envy everyone who hasn't played these games before because they are truely some of the best pieces of videogame art ever released.

The Wiimote controls make them way better. Don't believe the haters. Try it yourself. it needs next to no "motion"/"waggle"(you probably have to do more motion with a mouse ina FPS) but adds tons of speed and precisions. It's like the Wiimote was invented for Metroid Prime.

btw: I gave my Trilogy Disc Collection a try on the WiiU to see how the games look and I have to say: do not be afraid. They upscale and look great. Especially Prime 3 looks suprisingly clean.

i played metroid prime about 5 years back. really no intention of trying that a third time. echoes with pointer controls however, seems interesting. i quite enjoyed sanctuary fortress in 2004.

The key is to turn the pointer sensitivity way up so you barely have to move your wrist. Then it feels just as natural as a mouse.

I'll give that a shot. I feel like enough time has passed since I've even held a GameCube controller that it probably wouldn't feel any more natural anyway.

Protip for people new to the motion controls: turn lock-on free aim OFF in MP1 and 2 and ON in MP3. 1 and 2 weren't designed with that feature in mind, and trying to use it there is unnecessarily frustrating. It's great in MP3, though.

Also, turn the motion sensitivity to max.

Strap on your hooker ...
I'm lucky enough to have the physical release, but $10 for this much Metroid goodness ready to go on my hard drive any time is too gosh-darned good to pass up.

I'm on quite the classic game streak.

REmake HD > Grim Fandango > Prime 2 > Majora's Mask 3D

This train never stops.

Great OP. Cannot wait to replay these. I think this trilogy may be my most favorite Nintendo franchise. Hope all you newcomers enjoy.

Holy cowww can't freaking wait to play Echoes then! I've been craving for a truly challenging game for some time now. Thanks for this advice!

I've only played Prime 1 on the Gamecube, it was a top 5 game of the gen for me along with MGS3, DMC3, RE4, and GTA:VC.

I'm so fucking pumped to play Prime 2 and 3 for the first time!!!

I bought the Trilogy maybe a year ago from Gamestop (their so called "used" copy or reprint or whatever it actually is).

But I'm STILL going to buy this digital version both to support the series and have a digital copy always on my Wii U.

Adding to the OP. Thanks!

No problem! If it's not too much to ask, could you maybe bold the comment about Echoes as well? Echoes is really a game that doesn't fuck around and absolutely demands the player's best at all times; underestimating it can really sour the experience. I'd just hate seeing someone get a negative impression about the game because they make it to Sanctuary Fortress or the latter half of Torvus Bog, put the game down for an extended period of time, then come back and hate it because they're lost with no clue what to do. I think letting people know what they're getting into can hopefully make the game a smoother experience.

If you want a challenge, Echoes is gonna fucking give it to you. And it's not one of those popular combat-based challenges, either. Though there are some tough bosses, the vast majority of the game's challenge comes from navigation...hope your memory is good :)

I own Metroid Prime 2 and 3 but not 1. I have played about an hour of each (I haven't played my copy of 3. But I rented it before). I am excited to finally try the series from the beginning and give it a good chance. I remember seeing the trilogy for $40 back when it released and thinking about buying it. Hindsight is 20/20 xD

basically triple dipping now

10 fucking dollars. 11 something for the poor Canadians like me.

What a steal.

controller debate? I like the GC controls and still do but the pointer controls shit on them so bad. I could take a hot shit all the way above Sanctuary Fortress, have it magically pass through Magmoor Caverns and finally get mixed by robot oil from SkyTown and pointer controls would still produce nastier shit on GC controls

Eloquently put.

$10 for this trilogy is madness. There's gotta be some catch. There HAS to be!

I'd hope for lots of people to buy this just to show Nintendo that there is a huge fanbase for Metroid out there that is waiting for a return to the greatness of these games (especially after that *cough* last game *cough*)

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I never played any Metroid games despite owning the Gamecube & Wii so I'm really looking forward to play the Metroid Prime Trilogy for 9.99$.

It's a damn steal.

I already have this on retail with steel box and all. Is it bad I want to double this game again for $10 digital? I mean I love this series lol. Shoot, I pay for Xenoblade again at $20 even though I'm playing it right now.

I mean $10 for three games is highway robbery for a Nintendo game even.

Gaming's best trilogy, in a cheap digital download. Ya'll better get this.

Note: Make sure to turn "Advanced" sensitivity in the options on! It is crucial

I'd forgotten how on point all of the suit designs were. I should finally crack open my copy of Prime trilogy and beat Metroid Prime for once (she always kicked my arse as a kid)

Sanctuary Fortress in Echoes is one of my favorite areas in any video game, ever.
Agreed, Quadraxis can go die though.

For those who missed out and don't have a WiiU, if you're interested in the game seriously consider picking one up.

I know this is isn't a remaster, but this collection justifies buying a system at least as much as the Master Chief Collection did, especially given how the latter game turned out.

I'll add this to the OP in some form. But here is a reminder of the critical acclaim these games received:

Metacritic

Metroid Prime - 97
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - 92
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - 90

Metroid Prime Trilogy - 91

I shot people I like more for less.
Definitely grabbing this, I've been wanting to replay them. Whether I'll get to it right away is another question though :p

I can't wait! Too bad my internet is slow. It's going to take forever to download. :(

I guess I can get started on homework and play some Hyrule Warriors while it downloads tomorrow.

for anyone that has motion sickness, the default sensitivity is as good as it gets while being tolerable. advanced can be nasty if you get motion sickness from regular FPS games.

i'm sure someone will ask this so i'm mentioning it since i do suffer from that and these are the only games i can play fine. default sensitivity only.

There's several other people in this thread who are doing just that, including myself.

the biggest reason i'm getting the digital copy is for no load times. playing from an HDD or SSD is gonna remove them and they're nasty in mp3 when playing from disc.

I'll still probably get this because of the price...but I still would like this collection a lot more if it supported standard controls in some way. I know a lot of people say the pointer controls are "superior", but from what I remember of playing Metroid Prime when I played it when it came out, is it's not a game that is about precision aiming, and the combat is there as an obstacle to slow you from reaching your objective. It's the exploration and puzzle solving that were the core of the game to me. Plus, I just find holding the wii remote to aim, even for any extended time to be extremely uncomfortable.

Really sorry for the random, possibly dumb, question - that may or may not have been covered on GAF recently.

Is there any possible way to buy this without having a Wii U system? I'm hoping to order one within a few weeks, it's a no-brainer to buy this for $10 while I can.

Double dipping on all 3.

1. Being to look freely speeds up navigation in addition to combat

2. Rest the Wiimote in your lap

Yes, you can buy it on the web eShop. They'll give you a download code which you can redeem whenever you want.
For instance, here is Punch-Out, the current $9.99 deal.

Never played the wii versions of MP1 & 2 so it's pretty much impossible to not jump on this.

Excited to relive the glory of Echoes.
