Metroidvania game Frontier Hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune will leave Early Access and launch for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG on July 26, developer IceSitruuna announced.

Frontier Hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune first launched in Early Access for PC on December 15, 2022.

ABOUT THIS GAME

Frontier Hunter is a genuine Metroidvania game. Compared to our last work, Frontier Hunter has fuller stories, content, monsters, more exquisite scenes, smoother actions, and a more diversified, personalized cultivation system. We’ll do our best to make the game construction more thorough and stable. Also, we’ll add more featured experience, gameplay, and content in future updates.
Two years ago, Erza obtained the legendary hunter license and became a rising star in the imperial force. Under the rule of the wise and able emperor, the empire grows steadily. As one of the core forces in the expansion, Erza has won many military exploits.
In this fantasy world of swords and magic, Erza will lead an exploration team and start an epic adventure. She will fight unknown monsters and solve mysteries of the world. Why would the fiend become a hair clip? You’ll find the answer in the game.

Features

  • Classic side-scrolling levels with steadier, smoother gameplay. Jump and dash can interrupt other actions’ recovery to get smoother responses.

  • During your exploration in the game world, you may find secret passages between the two main areas or accidentally enter unknown chambers with hidden stories.
  • Improved cartoon rendering makes the characters more lifelike.
OK6.gif

  • Real beat 'em up combat system. Enemies have more ways to act after hit.

  • You’ll depend more on tactics when it comes to BOSS fights—learn their routines and act swiftly. Seize the chance to hit while keeping a distance.
  • With the character change and support system, Erza won’t be fighting alone.

  • 2.5D exquisite scenes will surely make an impression on you. The ultimate skills are made in 3D, which enables cool shows that 2D can’t do.
  • With a more diversified, personalized cultivation system, you can choose your favorite way to raise characters and find more possibilities.

Another one!

No genre feels more over saturated than a metroidvania.

A new one is out on steam every week at this point basically and none of them stick out to be worth our time.

The prince of Persia one from earlier this year was legit good and worth playing through. Not sure what about that one stuck out for me.

I’m also of the mind that silksong is never going to live up to the hype and wait now.

Yeah, its one of my favorite genre's but it's too much nowadays. Go on and make your soulslike shite, leave Metroid alone!

first thought I had: "oh, looks like Afterimage. I'm sure the bones are fine, but the story/music will be zzzz"

Not a PC gamer? Or at least don't look at new releases often? Because I see far,  far more rogue likes and probably more early access open world survival releases that metroidvanias.

The ultimate combo:
Rogue like metroidvania.

I’m on pc. Really the most over saturated genre is hentai games on there. New one out everyday god damn.

modern game
I'm scrolling through my 90's arcade collection and I can assure you that even old games feel copy/paste. There were like 4 genre looking all alike. Shoot em up, fighting, racing, run n gun....

I'm just bugging lol. Neo Geo really is like 4-5 genre only though 😅

I was going to say all those ____ Simulator games might give it a run but you'd be right. Hentai (and those porn games with shitty images of DAZ models) are indeed constant.

- Waifu-bait protagonist N° 40,567.

- Metroidvania (90% Castlevania)

- Character designs you saw before.

Like... It's so fucking boring, dude.

Whatever, FINE, make another Metroidvania, in the endless sea of them.

But I'm so fucking done of the waifu-bait protagonists. It's boring. No imposing figure or pose, no unique look, which is something Castlevania was known for, when it came to protagonists.

Can we get more of this

And less of this?

I know, "her ass and titties make my peepee hard, lol lmao"

That just looks like artwork you would see on a mobile gatcha game.

Looks like reviews for this indie metroidvania have trickled in over the past week or so:

33bits - Spanish - 74 / 100
Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune is a conventional metroidvania but quite fun and entertaining. Without innovating excessively, it presents us with a combat system that is quite developed based on the three playable characters, whose full potential is not fully exploited. Artistically and audiovisually is where the IceSitruuna studio has been most irregular, but it is fair to keep in mind that we are talking about a four-person studio. Otherwise, Erza's adventure is highly recommended.

God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 7.5 / 10
Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune doesn't do anything particularly new, but fans of Metroidvanias will find it well worth their time.

PSX Brasil - Paulo Roberto Montanaro - Portuguese - 75 / 100
Some small level design slips, instability between air and ground movements, and the harsh interface of Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune do not eclipse this beautiful 2.5D sidescroller metroidvania. The title cares little about an almost forgettable story, but its gameplay shows a sum between speed and skill that is extremely satisfying and fun.

Rectify Gaming - 7 / 10
Overall, if you’re a fan of anime-style games with Metroidvania gameplay mechanics, then this one is a no-brainer. It lacks the challenging combat of say Hollow Knight but it’s a fun romp with some stylish cut scenes and over-the-top characters that will keep you entertained throughout.

TheSixthAxis - Miguel Moran - 5 / 10
Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune would be easy to appreciate as a unpolished but obviously heartfelt metroidvania experience, if it weren't for the poorly executed and far too frequent cutscenes.

Video Chums - A.J. Maciejewski - 4 / 5
Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune is a great surprise in the Metroidvania realm with rewarding gameplay that's full of variety.

It's good for what it is and I had fun playing but ultimately found it inferior to similar games. I think it would've benefited from a more narrow focus. It didn't need 3 playable characters; their weapons could've been move sets for the MC or the characters themselves could've been support abilities. And having 3 separate characters made the gear upgrading system annoyingly bloated since every time you changed gear you needed to remove slotted buffs from your old stuff and put it on the new stuff, IF it would even fit. And if not scroll through an excessive list to find stuff that would and gave the bonuses you wanted. Remove all that stuff and bake it into the gear. Never mind the grind for materials (which felt enormously pointless at times).

Yes, I'm aware it's a small studio but that's exactly why a more narrowed focus would've benefited the game.
