jackson, it is time for you to MAKE TIME to make this movie, you have our permission to completely disassociate yourself with the Halo movie to get this done. In the end, there can be only one.

And the only one should be The Hobbit. :)

He's in the middle of prepping "The Lonely Bones" so I really don't know when MGM thinks they could get this done. Geez, I'm not even sure why MGM is announcing this unless they have some agreement with New Line already (which if they did I'm sure Jackson would know about it). After all, MGM only has the rights to distribute, it doesn't have the rights to produce the movie. This seems more like MGM's wishful thinking than anything else.

This is freaking awesome.

Remember kids, it's only real if the following occur:

1. Peter Jackson
2. There and Back Again must be the subtitle.
3a. The 3 Trolls
3b. The lost forest/elves in the wood
4. Smaug

Let it happen, and may it be.

MGM made the deal with New Line. From the report about MGM's plans:
"The Hobbit (film or films) will be produced in partnership with New Line."

The film apparently is going into production July 2007 WITH New Line. New Line is the one who had this production date. MGM/New Line will do this film with or without Peter Jackson. I doubt they will wait for him.

Jackson will either delay Lovely Bones and film the Hobbit in 2007 or they will do it without him.

If any deal is done it'll likely be done so that New Line distributes in the US and MGM distributes in the rest of the world. They'll probably half the production costs as well.

But as teiresias says, he's in the middle of prepping the Lovely Bones and is said to be eager to produce at this moment in time rather than direct another big project. It's said that the budget of the Lovely Bones will be in the $15-20 million range.

Though, having said that.... who knows in 'the buisness of show'?

And it's September.

He has enough time to film Lovely Bones before next July.
