MGS: Snake Eater vs. Resident Evil 4

Only one word: LOOOOSSSEEEERRR!

And for those who're blaming the MGS3 gameplay - play the game on Hard or Extreme. Then come back and we will talk about it.

I haven't finished RE4, only played a bit on GC, cause I don't own the Nintendo's purple cube, but it looks the same old RE to me. And I will probably be dissapointed after I finish the game, cause obviously, I'll play the PS2 version.

blah blah.

.... why are you calling me a loser?

I know some people like MGS4 alot but its not even on the same level as RE4. No other single player game manages to be pure gold from start to finish 100% of the time. MGS4, Half Life 2 and all other top games are NO WAY NEAR consistently good throughout. The fact RE4 is put its on another level of quality.

BF2 gets my plaudits for best multiplayer.

I never beat MGS3, but from what I played it didn't pull me in the same way RE4 did. I might give it another chance when Subsistence comes out as my main gripe was the camera.

I don't think anyone with the right mind will think MGS2 is a better game than MGS3. MGS3 has many ORIGINAL gameplay mechanics and ideas that are not only unique but well implemented. Just the fact the game is fun, polish, exceptionally design and execute and with ORIGINALITY, it deserve a place in the gaming histroy of this gen. Disclaimer: I am not saying RE4 isn't envelope pushing too.

MGS3 was the better gameplay experience and all-around the better game. RE4 was essentially the same shit over and over. The gameplay in MGS3 is far deeper compared to what RE4 offered. Also the boss fights in MGS3 are better. :)

OK :lol

MGS3 = same tired stealth gameplay from 1 & 2 with a little camo added
RE4 = significantly changed the gameplay of the series

I like a little innovation, so RE4 for me.

I beat Mgs3 for the first time about a week ago and its a masterpiece...

I havent played re4 yet but when I do im sure it'll be just as good, if not better from all the praise I've heard on gaf

a few observations...

1) If you haven't beaten this game, you really shouldn't give a conclusive opinion. People who say they never beat The End and then say that MGS3 sucks just puzzle me. It's like me saying "Well I never got past the Water World in Super Mario Bros 3, and, well, it sucked." Can you comment on gameplay? Sure. But not the overall game.

2) Anyone who says that either one of these games 'sucks' is probably full of shit and mildly retarded. I haven't played RE4 yet, but I highly doubt that it sucks, given the sheer amount of pants that have been ruined by orgasms from RE4.

I'm anxious to play RE4, and definitely will once it comes out on the PS2. I think it's a foregone conclusion. I LOVED MGS3 and I'm a total MGS whore, but still, I highly doubt that I won't like RE4. Will it be as good, in my mind, as MGS3? Probably not, because, like I said, I'm an MGS whore. But that doesn't mean that I won't be able to appreciate it.

As an aside, I realized that there's a lot of people saying they stopped while playing The End, and nobody stopped after that... cuz after that the game just cascades and gets better and better,
from the torture scene, to the Fugitive stuff down the tunnel with the dogs chasing you, up to the final fight with the Boss and that final yelp of the horse.

Oh well. Yeah. I can't wait to play RE4, and I'll be interested in whether I like it more than MGS3.

You should play MGS3. That one easily matches RE4's single player and goes beyond it even. You're mistaking RE4's non-stop gun blazin shoot-out, for 'pure gold from start to finish 100% of the time'. The only reason is because the game never breaks stride or formula. I'm not saying it's a bad game. It does what it does incredibly well but that's it. It's not revolutionary or nothing. It simply does a pure action game better than any other game could hope to.

RE4 was a fun experience, fantastic presentation, and the whole first quarter of the game is one of my favorites this generation.
That being said, MGS3 is my pick. It floored me all the way through. I also love it's 'Golgo 13' style villains, The Cobras. The last act of MGS3 is one of the most tense, thrilling experiences I've had this gen. Great, great product.

Both were utterly awesome, but I'd have to give the final nod to MGS3. Best ending ever.

Both were filled with awesome, WTF-inducing, jaw-dropping moments, but for me it came down to Metal Gear, mainly because I've played MG games since I was a kid, and I was never really a fan of RE before 4 came along. So I'm a little biased. But RE4 was phenomenal, no question about it.

I have played and beat both 2 times and I can honestly say that MGS3 is the superior. It was such a grand experience going through the game for the first time on hard with no radar. My first game clocked in at 35 hours! I ended up killing almost a thousand guys. The last scene with snake and the boss is the most beatiful image in all of gaming. Though I honestly believe that RE4 plays better, MGS3 was the far more memorable experience.

I think I'm gonna give RE4 the slight edge just because capcom needs the extra loving and it really sucks how much it didn't sell so well on gamecube.

I would give the edge to RE4. MGS3 wasn't really balanced that well (too easy to get detected because of the camera, but then the enemies are so easy even at hard that it renders stealth almost pointless). Maybe Subsistence will give MGS3 the edge.

Seriously its no contest in my view. RE4 is the game of this generation and i highly doubt Zelda will eclipse it.

Bottom line again is both games rule. Everyone has their own preferences but it would seem odd to me that any gamer would dislike either of them.
