MGS3 Question regarding Thermal Goggles.

A friend of mine got stuck at "The Fear" battle. While I understand it's not impossible to beat him w/o Thermal Goggle, but I think it's very helpful. However, since he has passed by the Cave, there's no way to backtrack and get the Thermal Goggle from the Rassevet area (where you meet Eva for the first time.)

Is there any other way to get the Thermal Goggles in the game? Any info would be appreciated.

I didn't use Thermal Goggles for the entire game, I just never found them.

Also I destroyed The Fear on my first time round. Just shoot the fuck out of him.

Hope that helps.

Most items do recur several times during the game if you miss them, but (and I haven't tested this) I wonder if you could use Cardboard Box A at the facility to jump back somehow? I know Box B will take you places if you use it while on a truck, but haven't tried A yet.

I see. Only problem with card board box method would be he would have to get passed by The Fear and The End, and perhaps The Fury to do so (if it's even possible.)

I guess I will just have to tell him to shoot the fuck out of him with machine gun or just re-start the game...

Thanks all.

I just called him up and told the bad news - and apparently, he just figured out the pattern of The Fear. Personally, I am not too skillful with Dir mic, so I didn't find it much useful for The End battle. (following footsteps with Thermal Goggle was the most practical way for me.)

Anyhow Thanks for your tips.

I have erased my gave save because of this. I was pissed off to no end when I first encountered it. I'll play again once I get the chance

Actually I was pretty lucky myself - when I encountered 8 men of Ocelot unit at Rassvet area for the first time, they threw a granade into the room, while I was hiding by the door - which blew open the cabinet, and knocked me back and I automatically picked it up. If not, I would have never known where it was located until too late.

I was in the same situation - no thermal and getting my ass kicked. Eventually I just dropped a bunch of rotten food everywhere I could, then tranked him a few times to cut his stamina. He climbed down, ate the bad food, and it was puke city. Easy pickings.

Come on.

Using thermals in both the fear and the end fight is LAME!

It's so much more enjoyable without. You actually do feel "the fear" and his trash-talking gets to you during the fight.

I've proven myself sissy weak-sauce gamer over and over, (Perhaps it's my conservative nature of being blood type A+. :D ), so please do understand. (If it's a 2d game, than it's a different story, as I will do some crazy stuff, mind you. ;))

Right now, I'm going through the game again for collecting purpose. I'll have to run through a couple more times, until I feel really satisfied with the game in the future, I reckon - and I'll try to do w/o Thermal Goggles. ;)

Although it may not be any use to you now, I know that you can get the Thermal Goggles in the Warehouse on your way to the Granin Research facility. They are in the bottom left corner on the first floor (near where there are several stacks of boxes).

Answer: Thermal Goggles are for pussies, Kojima sucks for putting them in the game. :P

More serious answer: You can't get the goggles at that point in the game. The Fear fight with goggles is really boring anyway...you're probably playing on normal anyway. You'll beat him eventually. :P
