MGS3 - Which difficulty to choose?

I should have started with this game earlier, I know. MGS3 is almost one year available in the USA, so the most of you already finished the game at least once.

Which difficulty do you advice me to begin with? I'm used to the MGS gameplay, I finished MGS a few times, the same counts for MGS2.

+ can you be a bit more detailed, for example: normal is good for
the regular stealth scenes, but it's too easy when you fight the bosses

Also i have never played a Metal Gear Solid with a Ps2 controller, hows the learning curve on that?

Normal is rediculously easy. I would pick hard.

It's a little of the opposite actually. On normal play getting shot at takes very little health and you can always run and hide back to normal. Bosses can be more challenging but are still more about puzzle solving then skill.

If your acknowlegded in MGS1/2 already, I suggest going straight to hard. The learning curve might take you while to get used to, since there is so much to work with new things like Close Quater Combat, item/food management, hunting, camo/face paint, etc.

The mastery of CQC makes you one hell of a powerhouse hence after the learning curve you could kick as much ass as you want more than MGS1/2 combined so hard would be the way to go. Plus Metal Gear Solid 2/3 are pretty much created with the DS2 controller in mind.

If you plan to stay stealthy and not kill anyone, MGS3 difficulty ramps up greatly but you just start slamming everyone with CQC and kill everything that moves it eases up a lot.

MGS3 difficulty and experience depends on how you approach it, hence why it's just an amazing game.

So hard wins this thread for me, thx guys i'll soon be eating snakes and fishes! (not that i'll be taking entire squads down with CQC though)

Since you have are Raiden, I guess you're going to pick the option, "I like MGS2" unless you already had before for a surprise.

you have to know, how lower you choose your first run-through, the more different difficulty's you can choose when you play the game for a second, third, fourth time

If you start in hard, you're not going to play it in normal or even in hard again.
though, your first run through is the most important one of course.

If you feel up to it you could always try extreme after beating hard. I picked hard because like you said, the most important one is the first playthrough.

Yep i'll be choosing that option.

@Gamedude: Sure but not at the cost for the first (and most important) run-throuh with the game. Feel free to start with normal, but dont complain its too easy when you're half in the game.
