November 18, 2005 - Konami will be offering a new look at the Tokyo Game Show Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer later this year. The company has revealed that the upcoming Metal Gear Acid 2 will include the trailer directly on the game's UMD disk. Apparently, by using the included 3D viewing goggles, you'll be able to get a 3Dish view of the next generation MGS footage.

We have a feeling this will end up being somewhat gimmicky, but we'll of course sample the trailer in 3D and let you know what it's like. MGA2 hits Japan on 12/8.

well shit that sounds AWSOME! if it is holograms :D I'm buying it, does MGA2 come with the googles? or are they extra like the socom headset?

I'm utterly sick of this thing.

If this was shown for the Nintendo DS, it would be (rightly!) lampooned as a retarded, awkward gimmick that's going to be more trouble than it's worth to use. It's the frigging Virtual Boy.

Call me when Sony bases an entire system's control paradigm around it, then I'll be "utterly sick of this thing" as well.

OOOO!? :P

:lol Overreact much?

1.- Only one game uses it.

2.- Nobody gives a shit about it.

You're making it out to be a bigger deal than it is. It is a gimmick and Kojima's PSP games will likely be the only games that ever even use it.

Its bundled with MGA2 right? Whats there to lose? If your going to be getting MGA2 you'll be getting this thing to. It will be cool to see how exactly this thing creates the 3D image. It just works for MGA2?

Yah it comes with MGA2. Amazon Japan is actually charging less for it than they're currently charging for the original MGA. And you can take pics in MGS3 and transfer them to the PSP to view them in it.

Sounds nice.
It's really something else.
At least the connection feature is not to use the PSP as a map or controller.

Wow, didn't recognise A. Kinoshita with short hair and in different kind of clothes.....

i'm not going to sit on a bus with goggles the size of a brick on my face for 2 hours in a bumpy ride, thank you

or when im sitting at the barber waiting to get a haircut. the men in white coats would be called.

Come now, Kobun. If this was shown for the Nintendo DS, it would be (rightly!) herelded as the very seed of Jesus, sewn into video game form, just like all of the other retarded, akward gimmicks on the DS that are more trouble than they're worth.

Last time I checked, weren't people making fun of 3D gaming when it was rumored to be on the Revolution?

Now it's cool!

I agree with Kobun. :lol

"What we have here are 3D goggles, allowing you to view MGS4's trailer in the 3rd dimension. Kojima, why don't you demonstrate?
"Well, my goggles are x-ray, so you go ahead."
"Oh, ok.."

Wow, Konami has gone out of their way to take the PSP and make it into one of the ugliest electronic gadgets. I'll promptly deck anyone I see using this in public.

However the MGS4 trailer in 3D is cool, nice of them to include that for the fans.

I'd like to see a picture of someone using this thing. You really hold the PSP up to your face? And play like that?
Only for certain segments and yes you have to push the goggles flush against your face so you end up looking like a retarded engineer of the fuuuuuuture.

You probably deck kids using Viewmasters too. What a meanie.

But you'll get your comeuppance when you try to deck a 4 star general using his binoculars.

Its an interesting idea, but that looks REALLY arkward. Any idea on how heavy that thing is?

This version is made out of thin cardboard, mostly, so not very heavy at all. And yeah, it's gimmicky. And you do look like an idiot looking into it (as opposed to how studly one appears talking to their Nintendog), but the 3D works quite well. And the trailer looks cool, enough to make you wish the final PS3 game had the option....

Don't remind me. :(

Owwwwwwwwwwww.....

Wait, does this mean it prompts you to put on the 3d deal in-game, or that there's a way to look at the PSP normally while the thing's attached?
Oh my bad, it seems the whole game is in 3d. I confused the extra segments enhanced by the 3D to mean that it will only use the goggles at that point.

It does get really, really weird, however. Case in point, the surprise announcement that MGA2 would be in 3D. Using a system that Konami is calling the "Solid Eye", players can fold together a cardboard frame that will come with the game to create a 3D image when you look in through the front eyeglasses. The frame clips to the PSP, blocking out light, and you look into it just like one of those old ViewMasters (if you don't know, go rent the TV series "Wonderfalls" on DVD.)

The effect is sharp and keeps detail alive, a kludge trick that's honestly a little hokey but still fun to play a game in. And since it's a strategy game rather than an action game, it's not as much a problem to have the game held up to your face at a slightly different angle when playing. The team will have the gameplay in 3D, and will also have 3D-compatible bonus movies included. The first sample of "Solid Eye" we saw at TGS was a PSP video reel of the Metal Gear Solid 3 opening jump sequence, playing out in 3D on the handheld. Konami also promises some similar surprises that will use the 3D effect (I bet you're eager to start searching for those hidden Japanese idol girl cards in this game as soon as possible...) We noticed in the demo version on the show that it was a little difficult to see the whole game screen at a time (because the eye spots were so small, you sort of had to tilt the screen if you weren't seeing everything properly), but hopefully the case will see a little work before the final game ships. Konami in America is planning on bringing over the "Solid Eye" viewer, although it will feature some different markings (the TGS box had strange Japanglish written on it.)

Exactly. Having it is an option for games that it just might make sense with is a far cry from basing the entire visual interface on such tech.
