MGS4's director is...

imaizumi6uo.jpg

Ken-ichiro Imaizumi

So as it stands

Director - Ken-ichiro Imaizumi
Producer - Ken-ichiro Imaizumi
Art Director - Yoji Shinkawa
Executive Producer - Hideo Kojima

According to Kojima the entire team will be the same as the rest of the series except he won't be heading it. He describes it as having 2 different chefs making the same product using the same ingredients since both will turn out differently even though they're using the same ingredients.

As for what Imaizumi's done before...Well..He hasn't directed or produced anything from what I can tell.

Did you get it from OPS2UK magazine, because I wouldn't trust them, they said that Kojima directed ZOE 2, but I'm not ruling it out :)

For me it makes no difference if this guy who has made no games or Mikami (I know he doesnt work at Konami) who has made some wonderful games is the director of a MGS game, Kojima is the only one I can really trust to direct the game. There is no person who could top the excellence of MGS3 apart from Kojima. What sort of input will Kojima will have in the game?

Basically, the only things he has directed before are CG trailers/openings for various Konami games.

Part of the interview question had them mention Imaizumi as the director and Kojima didn't corrent them. So it seems pretty legit.

so if they are releasing this news now it probably means that MGS4 will be at E3 IMO. right?
probably. I would have never expected info on this game to be released this early, but Im not complaining, MGS4 along with the new consoles is a dream.

He did work on previous Metal Gear Solid games, and the Silent Hill series. He probably has a good potential... But what was he doing in those games?

digital technician in Silent Hill
In MGS 2 and 3 Kenichiro Imaizumi is one of the producers of the "main titles" for MGS2 and 3 besides Kymberly Cooper (only MGS3).

He's one of the writers and the line producer and executive producer for McFarlane's Evil Prophecy (avg ratio:32% @ gamerankings) Oops......

He says he wants to keep his distance from the game. So I don't think he's going to be too heavily involved in anything about it.
Thats a shame. he did a great job with MGS3 and managed to redeem himself in the eyes of the MGS2 haters. Now that he isnt even going to have a big input in the game worries me because the previous games ave been perfect for me, but I guess it would be good to see what someone else could do the the series. Do you know what he will be working on now?

that's a nice gif, should have kept it for the final game.
It would have been hard to explain the presence of the Tanker in the Plant chapter, right before the fight between Raiden and Solidus...

I recall reading somewhere that Kojima was trying to keep a distance from MGS3 and the whole project was a big mess. They had to bring him back in to get things back on the right track.

Hope MGS4 doesn't get the curse of the even numbered sequals.

I think there's a good possiblity that MGS4's story will be just Tomokazu Fukushima (who's co wrote each MGS with Kojima along with Ghost Babel which he did himself). MGS3 had Murata on board also so he could help out too.

Good point, Snake Eater was the end of the Trilogy wonder what's next? MG Ac!d 2?
iirc, both "Metal Gear Online" and "Metal Gear Solid 4" are in development. What both of those titles end up as is up to Kojima.

mgs4 has been confirmed to take place after mgs2

I think most people are expecting that because Kojima's hint of "no place to hide" points to it taking place in a modern city. I'd still like it to be the Boss and her Cobra unit during their war, but it seems like its going to be the city.

The picture you linked clearly states that he's the producer, but are you completely positive that he would be *directing* it too? Every single non-Kojima MGS game has had different a different person as producer, director and writer. Kojima's the only one that does all 3.

They should split the series.

Metal Gear Solid 4 in one direction, and then a Cobra Unit prequel in the other.

I capped that from a video of Kojima's Euro tour where Imaizumi was only unveiled as the Producer. The May issue of the UK OPM is the one that first mentions him as the director when they ask Kojima about what he'll be able to bring to the series.

Ok oh, thanks for clarifying. I guess we'll all find out at E3 then. :D
