Great trailer. Killer music. MGS definitely has some of the best music in the entire medium. In my opinion it really sells the crazy up and downs of the stories. I think V is going to be a game that keeps on giving, I think the content will last for quite some time. Can't wait to uncover what the hell is going on in this game for myself.

The best Metal Gear is also from the best Metal Gear game. Metal Gear RAY from MGS2.
 
My first MG was the JP import of MGS. The game was so magical to me.

I had played MG on NES when I was a kid, but I never got very far.

End of an era...

This. This right here. This trailer made me remember this part of MGS4, one of the balls-out, best, fuck yeah moments of the game.

Solid Snake + REX.
 
I don't want to sound condescending but I genuinely wonder how some people in here manage to do something like watch films, if they take everything they see completely literally.
 
I really love the design of Rex, too. When I played MGS1 as a child I fell totally in love with that thing. At that time, there was literally nothing better than the combination of Solid Snake and a bipedal metal gear that is inspired of a dinosaur that roars, too.

But I have to admit: how Sahelanthropus is moving in the launch trailer just feels so damn surreal. I can't put it in words but it is really amazing.
 
REX is basically (also in name) the T-Rex from Jurassic Park; villainous robo dinosaur that looks awesome. As a kid it's an awe inspiring mechanical monster, and as you grow up and return it's the badass old school anti-hero. You want to see its rusty nuts and bolts kick the shit out of the sleek, modernised RAY.
 
I don't know why but it still never hits me as the last one ever. Even though i was sorta content with 4 being the last I'm always down for new MGS because why the fuck not. But this trailer man, it hurts me because i can tell it's hurting Kojima. It's one thing to give your baby to someone you trust and care for. But to have it taken from you and the shit they put him through.

MGS will always be the GOAT. Nothing can or will ever top it. BigBosssalute.gif
 
Is the new metal gear the first to go bipedal? Because then it will make the whole 'missing link' shit make sense.

Also the animal the name is inspired by.

I don't think people believe Big Boss is going to literally Animorph into Skull Face. The potential spoiler is that it all but confirms the theory that (and this is pure speculation on my part from watching trailers; I've never come within ten feet of the spoiler thread)
Big Boss is going to start having Skull Face hallucinations at some point, as some kind of manifestation of his inner demons. The Elegia trailer showed a scene where Skull Face appears out of thin air behind Big Boss on Mother Base, leading to speculation over whether Skull Face might be captured, or start working with Big Boss, or be a figment of his imagination or something. This new trailer pretty heavily implies that it's an 'evil voice in his head' kind of situation.
 
No way Kojima of all people would spoil something like that. He's trolling or setting something else up. Possibly, he's purposefully misguiding us.

Made this for fun yesterday. I really like the quiet theme but saw people missed the mgs theme of older games.

Changes include

Quiet them replaced with mgs2 theme
Added 'a HIDEO KOJIMA GAME' back into mgsv title screen
Cut most of the end scene and took out title cards
 
After watching this fantastic trailer, i have one final theory for Skullface :
Skullface is not Big Boss' alter ego. Skullface is definitely a new character. Instead, he will become Big Boss after he kills him. (yes, i believe that Kojima intends to complete Big Boss' saga and what other way is there other than killing him)
Big Boss and Skullface will become partners and do horrific things for revenge, but even Big Boss has its limits in contrast to Skullface.
That's were the doctor who looks exactly like a real one who wants to perform a head transplant falls into place. That's were Skullface (a man without a past, a face, an identity) comes. Skullface is a clean slate that will embrace Big Boss' persona. That final retcon removes the gravitas of the Solid Snake vs Big Boss fight (since the latter is Skullface) and instead places it at the end of MGSV.
THAT'S WHY KAZ BECOMES A MEMBER OF FOX-HOUND ! TO HELP SOLID SNAKE KILL THE IMPOSTOR WHO DOES ATROCITIES IN THE NAME OF BIG BOSS !
BIG BOSS' FAME WILL BE DISGRACED JUST LIKE HIS MENTOR, THE BOSS' DID !

I think i'm getting mad....
 
That Quiet theme is just so tragic. It may be one of the best Metal Gear themes ever.

And damn, remembering that Sniper Wolf scene. I haven't played MGS1 for close to a decade (I will be replaying once I complete MGS5 along with MGS2 and MGS4 to finish the series) and I still remember that scene.
 
I hate Quiet's character design but as long as I can change the costume ASAP and it takes effect in all cutscenes, I am so pumped to have that character as my buddy the entire way. Just due to that theme.

From what I gathered you get the only barely tasteful costume a while in and after a very difficult mission.
I hope I am wrong though.
 
I didn't like the trailer very much TBH, it didn't work for me like the three E3 trailers did (2013 red band remaining my favorite).

It did underline one thing though: that vocal tracks album should have released worldwide this week for maximum impact and profit. I really hope it's all available from the ingame player.

ZEKE is essentially the same as REX except it has AI, and REX is made 30 years later.

TX-55 and Metal Gear D are compact versions with more warhead capability but poorer close quarter combat capability and doesn't have the capability to launch the nuke as far.

Only way this makes sense is if Huey is killed in MGS5 along with ZEKE 2.0, and they don't have the capability to rebuild that level of Metal Gear again until 30 years later with Otacon. As it was Drago Petrovich Madnar who designed TX-55 and Metal Gear D, and Otacon who designed REX.

As someone pointed out earlier, there's always the in-universe explanation of the Patriots locking away some tech until their fall. It kind of makes sense. The other aspect is that while this looks way more modern than REX, it's probably less lethal as a WMD as REX is first and foremost a very efficient nuclear delivery platform, as opposed to an awesome looking mecha.

But yeah, no matter how we explain it away, it's one of these things like the Star Wars prequels where when you visually design tech 15-20 years later, it will look more modern than its in-universe successors.

Also REX was a US designed (or ArmsTech) Metal Gear while every one before it was designed by either Russians, Peace Sentinel, MSF, CIPHER (I'm assuming that's who redesigns ZEKE in this one), and Outer Heaven.

So that also makes sense why they were behind the times.

Also, ZEKE and REX both have the same nuclear delivery model with the rail cannon.
 
Anyone thought the trailer was a little corny? These huge fonts appearing on screen "the ultimate metal gear!!!" "the ultimate battle!!"

I want this theory to be true. It kinda makes sense, but it doesn't explain why this fake BB later feels guilt/remorse at the end of 4. He wouldn't know what BB knew/personal details regarding the events of 3 (and PW).

Hmm...
Maybe Big Boss doesn't die, but falls into a huge coma and the one we see in MGS4 is him and not Skullface.. He does get burnt but from Skullface, not Solid Snake. Solid Snake burns Skullface who is posing as Big Boss, thus delivering a fitting end to Skullface's life. Only one thing is for sure : Kojima is gonna retcon the shit out of Metal Gear universe
