MGSV:TPP LAUNCH TRAILER

Listening to it again,

Les Enfant Terrible, Zero called her.

Dude it's French. It's not less infants terrible, it's closer to lays on faun tear reeb. The S is silent because it's French.

And it's "zero called it" not "her". Kiefers phrasing is really weird and throws me off.

Oh god this trailer, my heart! It's hitting harder than I thought, the first half of trailer encompassed a huge part of my gaming love and years. It's genuine heart heartache from me.

It's an end of era of the greatest gaming series ever, and after so many long years from my youth to adulthood....I have to say goodbye...

Same here. Cried.

You know what blows my mind?

Metal Gear Solid 1 was released 8 years after MG2: Solid Snake

And it's been 7 years since MGS4

And the series skipped the 16-bit era, hence the long wait between Metal Gear 2 and MGS1. But they didn't skip the PS3/360 generation, it was just so long that the seven years in between didn't see another console generation come and go.

In the context of the trailers, I think the songs are fine. When I watch the trailers I don't think "Ugh, this awful music." It's the idea of listening to the songs outside of the trailer that makes me go o_O

Outside of a very small handful of licensed songs and "yeah, this music is rad" nostalgia threads on GAF that send me to youtube memory lane, I don't listen to almost any music from any game, movie or TV show ever (promo or otherwise), outside of the context. Not counting classic stuff that just happens to make it's way into a score, obviously. There's some fantastic music in gaming nowadays that I'd probably listen to just to enjoy, but simply don't incorporate it into my music listening time because it's not my genre.

People are likely raving partly because of how it's used, how it fits, and in the future will find it evocative of how the game and build up as a whole made them feel. It would be odd for someone to go "damn, why don't they put some metal or gangsta rap on this? now that's what I call dancin'!"

If people can be taken on their word, there are a LOT of MGS fans out there who put Snake Eater, Way to Fall, Here's to You, Sins of the Father, Nuclear, etc. into heavy rotation on their playlists. My elitist surliness was intended for them. =P

Well, they probably just get more out of it. Some gamers listen to a lot of game music regularly, and that's fine. It's easier to do it nowadays than it ever was. Almost everyone's tastes in music is influenced by what incubates them. For some people it's headphones and a commute, others it's a nice whip and a killer sound system, clubs and nights out, formal evenings out at the opera, 420 marley errday, or 9-5 work tunes etc..

Disregarding the link to the game itself there's plenty of reason why people would put some of these songs into their playlist. This is of course a matter of opinion, but as a bit of a creative when it comes to music I can't help but mention that to me, A lot of the songs used in the trailers have actually had some extremely well crafted pieces that have a clear artistic vision driving them. It might not be your typical daily listening music, but it also excels beyond typical daily listening music in many aspects. Again, just my opinion.

The important key would be, not everyone listens to music for the same reasons, let alone tastes.

I'd like to add too that the song in the release trailer managed to cause my partner to cry and she has zero knowledge of the MGS franchise at all, so it's a song that's good at evoking emotions on its own merits. It's pretty likely that's going in her playlist on its own merits too.

Truly the end of an era. It's a game that's been present for a huge part of my life and, because of that, it's so difficult to say goodbye to it. Damn it...

Also, I seriously hope that Skullface thing in the trailer isn't a spoiler, because if it is... It's a HUGE one.

Random thing I only just noticed. The new Outer Heaven logo thats been popping up in trailers and shirts ands tuff for this game has a hole on the skull where Big Bosses horn is.

I guess maybe the swastika from the old logo used on the MSX was a bit much.

But I must say between the Outer Heavean, Fox Hound and Diamond Dogs logos I am tempted to buy a Metal Gear t shirt. They got some sick logos. Bummed I never got a Peace Walker shirt because I love that logo.

....holy fuck the shitty kerning on that logo.

Please tell me that's not final.

Yeah, but it wasn't a real MGS like MGS4. It was MGS for wee little babies with their itty bitty toy handhelds.

I've been replaying/playing the series completely, and I've spent more time progressing in Peace Walker than MGS 1, 2, 3, and 4 combined, and it's still giving. If not for the story being a bit wacky, I'd say it was up there with MGS2 for my favorite...

Agreed. I'm playing it now and I'm absolutely love it. Tied with MGS3 as my favorite atm.

I was quite worried.

With all of the out-of-mission gameplay being translated to MGSV, I remembered not liking the few beginning moments of PW, and was afraid MGSV might not be for me. But then, upon playing more of the game, I was enthralled in building up everything, looking for the best soldiers and POWs, upgrading everything, and doing as much as I possibly can with the banana.

All of the MGS games make you feel like a badass soldier. PW is the only one to make you truly feel like a
Big
Boss, building your base, sending your men to missions, and having to go out to get your hands dirty sometimes
