What the **** is wrong with our media. Michael Moore was going to be on CNN to interview about his very important documentary "Sicko" but it gets canceled so they can interview coked out whore Paris Hilton instead:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hotel heiress and reality TV star Paris Hilton will give her first post-jail interview on CNN's "Larry King Live" on Wednesday, the show's spokeswoman said on Saturday.

"She will be on for the hour," Bridget Leininger told Reuters. "We had (filmmaker) Michael Moore originally scheduled for that time."

Because Larry King Live isn't a news show and more people care about Paris than Michael Moore? I know it's odd, ,but it happens:p

I don't know why this surprised me so much...

But Paris Hilton never finished high school and her parents supported her decision to drop out. What was she doing that required her to not even get a HS diploma???

And this is the person that we spend hundreds of hours per week covering and discussing ad nauseum???

She has a GED, the fact that I know and remember this scares me.

They roll out these media hores and time these news pieces so they can get away with not having to cover and focus on critical world issues. It's the same thing again, and again, and again.

But Michael Moore's interview was cancelled!

Yes, USA will benefit more from an interview with Paris than a discussion about healthcare.

The whole thing is ****ing disgusting. Surreal life, for sure.

i don't think the problem is really with the media. they only talk about what people are more interested in. and, sad to say this, but i really think that a higher percentage of americans care more about paris hilton's fate than the fate of our country and the world.

i was watching the news the other day, and what basically happened was they were covering news on the conflict in lebanon, but they only talked about it for a few minutes. and it seemed like they were like...."ok, now for the big story....OMG PARIS HILTON HAS ISSUES!" :lol

seriously, that's how it pretty much went down. and seems to be what people are more interested in, unfortunately.

With 40$ on the bank I would have jumped out of my kindergarten

At first I read the title as "Michael Moore interviews Paris Hilton on CNN" and got excited. I might have actually watched that.

Dare I ask for your definition of "right", or rather, why it was the right call?
You're asking why her first post-prison interview is a bigger draw than a documentarian promoting his latest movie?

No, I'm not. But this thread hasn't been about that either - until you mentioned it, that is.

That's pretty lame, even coming from someone who doesn't like Michael Moore.

Still, who gives a shit, it's not like Larry King knows how to do anything resembling a substantive interview. The only man I know on television worse at interviews is Jay Leno.

Tacky as that looks, it's at times like these when you can really appreciate the meaning behind a picture like that, simplistic as it may be.

They ditched Michael Moore so they could talk to Paris Hilton about leaving jail. Who the **** cares.

It's not? It's not about them bumping an interview with a documentarian promoting his latest movie so they could get her first post-prison interview? You're sure?

Are you trying to be "intellectually dishonest" now? :lol

You said it was the right call cause it draws more people. I don't think that was what the OP was arguing against, nor was I.

It's about a important matter (well, all is relative) being tossed for an interview with someone far less important.

Awesome to see Paris Hilton be a more important topic than Health care.

I'm glad to see our priorities are straight in this world.

Uh, I'm not sure what you think you're arguing against, but based on this response you had no reason to reply to my initial post, since you had no objection to it.

Holy crap I must admit you're a great escape artist when it comes to being cornered in a discussion. I don't even know what you're talking about here. Are you implying that ItsInMyVeins had no objection to CNN canceling its interview with Moore to interview that stupid brat? Noone will ever know. The post is so messed up you can say it means anything and eventually escape the argument.

Huh? My posts are pretty clear if you're not functionally-illiterate.

Hehe, yeah sure. Here's what happened:

APF says the producer made the right call

ItsInMyVeins asks what does APF means by "right"

This is the fun part: APF tries to avoid the subject at hand and talks about what would be the "biggest draw" (like we didn't already know how stupid the audience is) avoiding to answer what he means by "right call" thus avoiding to admit how pathetic CNN's action was

APF said:

back and forth with APF trying to avoid the subject

The missing piece of the puzzle is that the producer's job is to bring ratings and make money. That is why the producer "made the right call." It's all self-contained in APF's original post.

Problem with APF's whole argument was trying to defend the CNN's tabloid-like behavior by using the "ratings" excuse like that would justify everything. Duh, we all knew they did for the ratings, it's still absolutely pathetic though and that's why APF shouldn't have defended them in the first place.

It's fvcking LARRY KING, not Charlie Rose. It's a talk show, he interviews celebrities (ie like Michael Moore); he's not a hard news anchor, dumbasses--that's how he gets her first post-prison interview in the first place.

Michael Moore was going to be on Larry King for a particular reason. This wasn't some Liza Minelli or Brad Pitt "So, how're the kids?" interview.

What did you think Michael Moore planned on talking about?

Well, fact is that Paris is smarter. I wouldn't want to interview Moore. He'd make me dumber. It'd spread like the flu.

But I think Moore knows how to operate a gas pump.

Nice to see a non-cryptic APF post...

Actually I agree with you. :)

Larry is way less news oriented than even say O'Reilly where the argument would be tougher to make but even still iffy in that case.

The problem is the cable evening news hours are filled with these sorts of shows that blur the continuum between news and entertainment shows. But most would put Larry King firmly closer to the entertainment side.
