Uh, I'm not sure what you think you're arguing against, but based on this response you had no reason to reply to my initial post, since you had no objection to it.

I was just asking if it was because of the drawing you said it was the right choice. You're the one who started going all over the place after that.

APF said:
Huh? My posts are pretty clear if you're not functionally-illiterate.

No, they're not. You just said the producer made the right choice, not why. Sure, drawing ratings is implied (or could be - there's nothing definitie about your post at all), but you didn't even bother to say that which makes the whole post stink of baiting, and that's why I initially reacted to it.

My posts were very clear, yet you didn't seem to understand them though.

Be careful your heart doesn't keel over wanking to Paris pics...your health insurance might not cover it.

If you still don't understand that her first post-prison interview is a much bigger get than the last stops of a documentarian's publicity tour--and that this is why the producer absolutely made the right call--then you may want to consider professional help. Or at least, try to stay out of my reality-based community.

When have I opposed that? Please, tell me - cause I can't find anything I've written here stating something like that. You do know how to read, right?

Quoting myself;

You said it was the right call cause it draws more people. I don't think that was what the OP was arguing against, nor was I.

And yet you say something like that above? Isn't that a bit childish of you? Oh, well.

It's best to do what most of GAF does and set APF to ignore... for your own good.

It would literally be impossible for a human being to be more clear than I've been here; if that's not good enough for you folks, feel free to revel in your intellectual-vacuity and functional-illiteracy.

Well then, how come you (in your last post) started putting words I haven't uttered in my mouth?

Tell me, what is it that I don't understand?

It is of course slightly APF's way to come in as if he is on no side and is just a "voice of reason" when he clearly is on one side. Right or wrong that does get annoying.

The crucial crux of the argument thought that people keep dancing around is what kind of show is Larry King Live.

While it is debatable to a degree he is taking the side it is mostly a pure entertainment show although he took a fairly long time to explicitly state that position.

In that sense he saying it's incorrect to judge them on the same values you judge a true news show. The earlier posts were sort of lamenting what had happened and implying it represented a failure of intelligence or values about America and he is arguing that debate is moot in this specific situation. So the argument of whether to pull Michael Moore for Paris Hilton is easily understandable. I agree...mostly

There is a larger debate though on how much of the content on these news networks should be considered under the umbrella of actual news. Is a Larry King on CNN really necessary or should it be tailored in another direction that is somewhat closer to an actual news interview program. Are all these talking head commentary shows "news" and should they be?

I think people are so desperate to establish concrete "sides" on every issue--and assert some sort of moral outrage on the same--that they miss the forest for the trees, as is the case when people are bemoaning what a horrible state the world is in when Larry King's folks decide to go with a juicy exclusive rather than a publicity stop for a documentary.

What are you on about?

----

Stoney:

Hey, I'm not disagreeing with you.

I'm not saying that King is news per se, but one would hope that they at least tried to discuss relevant and more important issues. Maybe not to an extreme, but come on, Paris doesn't belong in anything that could even relate to new or important issues. I'm just annoyed at how things are being prioritized.

I know why they went with Paris, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. That's my opinion. Then again, I thought Larry King at least approached serious issues outside of the entertainment business at times.

Now, you could say it was just a publicity stop by Moore, but they would at least had time to discuss the whole issue and not just roll a clip and leave it be.

So you voice incredulity that someone would agree the producer made the right call, then you admit you see... why they thought it was the right call... uh... but you're disagreeing with me... only you say you're not... and... and... So basically you're intellectually-challenged on an absurd level, and you just want to be confrontational with me because OMG IT'S TEH EVIL CONSERVANAZI. Brilliant.

Are you really this dense? Don't you ever read posts?

I don't think it was the right call cause I say healthcare is more important, but from the producers perspective it was since it will probably be better for the ratings. See? It's simple. Do you finally understand, or am I gonna have to draw you a map?

I don't know why this argument is still going on. APF made it clear what he meant in his first post if you read the title of his post.

Remember this is Larry King Live we're talking about here
The producer made the right call, absolutely.

Yes, it's him that wanted to be confrontational.

You came into this thread arguing that the decision was made for ratings: WELL THANKS FOR THAT REVELATION. Did anybody claim otherwise? Yet somehow you felt the need to do a touchdown dance as if none of us would acknowledge this.

CNN's ratings soared during by covering the OJ trial essentially 24/7 - that is beyond criticism according to you just because it got ratings?

People have this crazy notion that news networks should be reporting real news - them not doing so has gotten us into alot of trouble these past years. Seeing Paris Hilton discussed rather then an guy who's raising an important national issue is troubling to people and you refuse to acknowledge this - and yet you call others intellectually challanged?

Exactly. That's why I asked what he meant by "right", since that's something obvious and I don't think anyone will try to dispute that. I was curious whether he tought there were any more reasons it was the right call, aside from that given one.

And that, I guess, led into this tiresome "discussion" where I'm being called intellectually challenged by someone who puts words into my mouth.

Maybe I oughta go out and buy a helmet so I don't hit my head with a wooden spoon while trying to eat.

This is GAF, dude. No matter what the topic, if you are conservative, then you MUST be put in your place! Even if it makes no sense. Like now.

Is it REALLY that hard to realize:

1. Larry King is not a Hard News show
2. viewership = ratings = advertiser dollars
3. producers of entertainment programs make decisions that will bring the greatest returns

I knew exactly where APF was going with this. I board op'd in college for a live mid-market radio morning program and have seen this happen on a local level. (Bumping the human-interest-story for the districts' incumbent representative in congress around election time, for instance)

To me, there are few things that suck WORSE than Michael Moore, and Paris Hilton just happens to be one of them. Glad I don't watch Larry King!

When have I, or anyone else here, disputed anything of which I bolded in that quote? Enron, care to tell?

Huh? Who said anything about conservatism? Are you implying that conservatives do not like discussions about health care? ****. I know it's Michael Moore we're talking about here, but that's still a stretch.

All I saw here was people bitching about Paris Hilton getting some more air time over what they consider to be an important topic and you jumping in being a jerk. I agree with you that it's not a big deal, but don't expect people to respect your opinion when one of the first things you do is call people "dumbasses".

As far as I can tell, APF said "The producer made the right call, obviously" the reasoning for which was bolded in my post and mentioned by many others before me. Then you jumped down his throat about what he meant by "right". (When it was pretty much obvious). Hm. I wonder what you could have been setting him up there for. APF being a conservative and all. Hm.

I don't like Michael Moore one tiny bit, but a debate on healthcare is infinitely more important than whatever c**k paris hilton is sucking on at the moment. Stoney actually said something very true earlier; its ridiculous that shows like these (or the magazine shows on CNN or FOX) are even on; they are a large part of what wins the Fox networks BIAS criticisms. The actual news is fairly unbiased on any of these networks; its the crap like Lou Dobbs or Crossfire or whatever show on FOX that colors it. That crap ain't news. Its opinion about news on a news network. Sadly, that's what ppl like to watch so we are stuck with it.

Wha..? :lol

Here's my quote again;

ItsInMyVeins said:
Dare I ask for your definition of "right", or rather, why it was the right call?

How could I possibly "set him up" by asking him a simple question like that? And how is that jumping down his throat? Since the money issue is so obvious I asked him, wondering if he meant anything more than that (again; since the money part is a given). It's as simple as that. So don't spin this to something it isn't.

And yeah, the only thing I do here is running around setting up conservatives. Come on, man. I didn't even know for sure that he was since I haven't really discussed much with him. Does this topic even have to do with political colors at all? How is it relevant?

I somewhat agree, actually.

I don't know why this surprised me so much...

But Paris Hilton never finished high school and her parents supported her decision to drop out. What was she doing that required her to not even get a HS diploma???

And this is the person that we spend hundreds of hours per week covering and discussing ad nauseum???
Let's face it, the girl will never have to work a day in her life. A diploma is a completely useless piece of paper to her.

Tacky as that looks, it's at times like these when you can really appreciate the meaning behind a picture like that, simplistic as it may be.
Yeah, the subtlety of the image is really striking, too.
