Let's hope for a release date.
Edit: What's the info about Windows design language 2.0?
In bare bones, the Windows Design Language, previously the Metro Design Language has been at its 1.0 version for awhile now. With Windows 10 they are broadening the scopes a little, unifying the more than three separate implementations (Windows 8, Windows Phone, Xbox, Web Apps) to a single one in Windows 10.

With this change comes new built in Xaml Controls and other APIs which allow us to easily continue to build Metro applications with the updated language, thus allowing us to be able to keep making our apps look standardized.

I'm actually pretty interested to hear about the changes and updates myself.

Sounds good, Windows is lagging behind OS X when it comes to overall details in design or just design in general.

Make it look like Froyo.

It would still be an improvement.

How are the cameras on Lumia phones?

There are tons of people that would buy a phone for the camera alone.

But yeah, strengthening the Windows app store is still important.

920 camera is pretty solid in my experience. But it's not nearly as good as my buddy's 1020 (taxi driver stole it from him last weekend so he uses a Galaxy III now sadly). Below the 920 though I think the cameras a pretty average. The Lumia camera app is top notch, though, as stock camera apps go.

Waiting for the rumored Android app compatibility in Windows 10 bomb to drop today. *rubs hands together menacingly*

Probably same concept as BlackBerry.... Where you can import the .apk files

I don't think MS will allow external store support (Google Play) but I don't think Google would complain if they did... That's like adding a billion potential users overnight

Oh Awesome

Also, can't wait to see how people misunderstand that this is a conference meant for developers and not end users.

We're already there.

The top tier Lumia phones have some of the best cameras you can get in a phone, with the Lumia 1020 arguably being the best period. The Lumia Camera software update has improved quite a bit, but some of the features are only for the newest phones with the better processors.

920 was good for its time but has been surpassed now. Mid range devices like the 830 sport a better camera.

The top of the line 1020 has a terrifyingly good camera. The rest are at least above average, accounting for age.

Indeed. I remember taking skiing videos with mine close to when it was released and was surprised just how awesome the quality was.

The camera in the Z3 is damn good, but the step up from the 920 isn't big.

Really looking forward to Build this year. If WP gets Android apps I will be very tempted to go back to WP10.

Now see, I dont think thats the way they will be using to do it. That method works for Blackberry because Blackberry already has their apps written on Java, so all they needed to do was implement the Dalvik JVM into their OS for Android apps to run against. To do the same thing in Windows (I assume), they would have to go through alot of work in reimplementing the app model to support a second Java based environment.

Instead, within Windows, everything is compiled to native code through the Windows Runtime, so all they would have to do to support Android apps would be to implement Java as another source which compiles into the Runtime. They could then follow this up by creating wrappers around Android APIs which would allow them to redirect to Windows APIs (if they wanted full support, otherwise they would require devs to change out the refrences).

By going that way, apps would not only run almost as fast as a natively written apps, because they are all compiled against the same source, they would be able to avoid implementing a Dalvik JVM into the OS and they would also get to continue not implementing Java within Windows, thus not enabling that security risk. Of course its alot harder than what I describe (for example, they would essentially be making a Java Compiler), that being the bare-bones idea behind it all; but it would be a much better solution.

That said, it will be interesting to see how they decide to do it. A little over an hour left to go and we shall find out!

The 920 was the best phone Nokia put out for a long time, and ever since. Ahead of its time with the OIS camera, 60Hz display, sunlight readability, super sensitive touch.

what i really want to see is how much progress they've made on hololens. the finger clicking was a pretty primitive user interaction, so hopefully there's an advanced interaction implemented.

I'm going to check in on the Azure news later. That is most interesting to me. I got to help set up a virtual infrastructure late last year and I was impressed with how easy Microsoft made it. In less than a work day we had a SQL cluster, IIS, a few interface servers, and a backup solution going. It all worked remarkably well, too. I'd say the experience was better than what I've seen from Amazon.

I'm not sure if they are going to do the same format as last year, but if they do, expect Azure and Office to be handled in Keynote 2 tomorrow. Day 1 is usually showcase tech which gets huge media attention. Wouldn't hurt to check in later today though to make sure though.

I don't know why, but I can never stop laughing at this whenever you bring it up

plenty of time to take a shower, grab a snack and kick back. does microsoft plant people in the audience like apple?

Probably. But the keynotes for build are filled with Developers who are more likely to cheer on top of press who will likely be heads down typing.

more than likely there are lots of people there from various teams who will be demoing/deepdiving into their features. I bet many will be at the keynotes.

I have the 930. Very good in daylight, even in the house with normal lights. Meh in the dark, but with some tweaking with the Lumia Camera Pro app it's very doable.

Damnit Tom... Or maybe he knows more about Android apps on WP? Nah...

Anyone want to guess Project Spartan names?

Something generic like Microsoft Surf maybe or EDGE, I hate that. Just call it Spartan I guess.

Open this as a file, btw.

I like Spartan since it has a double meaning.
