Microsoft E3 2014 predictions

I don't see how Gears can show up in the conference other than yet another pointless CG teaser.

The game was starting from complete scratch as of only a couple of months ago.

More suits than you'd like and fewer games than you'd hope.

Why would they go back on everything they did last year where it was nonstop games, and they had so many games, they actually pushed all the casual stuff to outside events?

Last year's conference was literally the best E3 conference anyone's ever had, because it was nothing but games games games, with some surprising reveals no one saw coming. That's... literally all you could possibly ask for.

They will have a better game lineup than both Nintendo and Sony.

They will be upstaged by something not game related.
I actually think Microsoft has the potential to upstage everyone else with something not specifically game related.
I think people would be thrilled for a huge price cut, changes to Gold, etc.

they should show a lot of small advantages of kinect and some free arcade games to go with it.

and since they are more transparent, they will explain xbox one 2.0, how thw xbox one had to change from always online to not, and the changes in the games design.

example, delay with watch dogs anyone.

i would like to see the example of a game with cloud computing and the same game without..

After last year's debacle and their recent recovery from those errors (new leadership, renewed focus, etc), I expect MS to bring out the big guns and blow us all away. I don't know what to expect, but I'd imagine we're gonna see the new Gears, maybe some Halo goodness, and something surprising like Shenmue 3 (I've never been a fan of the series, but imagine the goodwill it would build with the hardcore gamer if they brought the series back exclusive on Xbone).

I think it's gonna be huge.

It wasn't terrible but it wasn't close to the best E3 anyone's ever had.

I really hope that everything Phil Spencer has said about their recognising this E3 to be a make-or-break moment for Xbone is true and that they're planning big changes to the brand. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see the XBLG paywall significantly revised, or a significant price cut with a new SKU.

Conversely, I'm also incredibly wary, because MS haven't had a truly great E3 showing since...I can't even remember when.

So I would say I'm maybe 40/60 balanced between optimism that MS realised how far they dun goofed and are keen to do something about it, and cynicism that the rumbles of change we've heard are all for show and that beneath the surface it's the same dreadful vision that was unveiled last year.

Last E3 was one of their best ever.

pls, bait harder.

Price drop, but not an enough of one for me personally, or to catch PS4.

Price drops to 399$ with Kinect, no game pack in.

My price is 349$ with Kinect and a game like Forza packed in to get me to bite, and imo get near PS4.

Its going to be too little too late, imo.

easy dude... its been 6 months. consoles generations sells for 10 years..

look xbox360/ps3, ps3 is still more expensive then xbox and now has more world sales.

I expect:

Halo 2 Anni
Halo 5 actual teaser
Fable
Small gears tease?
FF15 1hr exclusive demo available after the conference
Forza
2 New IP
Maybe an old Rare IP
$399 Price Drop + Small Redesign (color, or removal of kinect)
Shenmue 3
Some Promo Like Buy an Xbox get 2 free games
360 price drop needs to be $99, no need to make it smaller.
New apps + Good Dashboard Updates

That doesn't make any sense. 500GB increase in HDD storage will not make $150 difference.

I know it won't. But it would be a way for MS to not have to take as big of a $ hit as they would if they didn't have a $500 SKU... especially if both of them will still have kinect inside the box.

First CoD gameplay reveal along with announcement of getting the new maps first on Xbox One.

Along with this I'll throw out that they will probably have Kevin Spacey on stage for it.

Maybe.

Halo (TV show and 5 + the HD version)
Sunset Overdrive gameplay
Some ID@xbox games
COD gameplay
Titanfall's next dlc
Possbily some AR related thing
Other new TV
Quantum Break gameplay and tie TV show trailer.
Possible price drop/ announcement of a 1TB Xbox one version.

If they show Horizon 2, Halo Anni, Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive we'll be getting 4 gameplay presentations for games we've never seen. Hell 2 of those games haven't been announced and we know barely anything about the game play about the other two. If that plus a few surprises (new or returning IP) aren't enough for people I don't know what is.

I always have a hard time distinguishing between people who didn't read the OP completely, and are thus making crazy wishlists instead of predictions, and people who are completely out of touch with reality in these threads.

We have seen a bit of Quantum Break gameplay during the VGAs, and Sunset Overdrive info is coming next week.

Last E3 was one of their best ever.
Last E3 would have been absolutely amazing for them to have had in, say, 2010. Coming off the back of one of the worst product reveals in gaming history, I think it was pretty much the least they could do.
What was then?

It's the only conference I can remember that was wall to wall core games.
I'm not really sure. There weren't any really stand-out moments in MS's conference last year.

I'm talking about E3 not the year as a whole. Clearly they had a terrible year. But in terms of unveilings they got a ton of great games.

Halo5, Quantum Break demo, Forza Horizon2, Fable demo, a japanese exclusive IP (Platinum, maybe...), Fallout and ME4 with exclusive content, the last COD playable segment, a new IP from Rare, RE7 ultimate edition and one or two unannounced first and second party titles.
Should be one hell of a show, imo.

I guess if you remove it from context then their previous E3 was pretty good. But still, I don't think there was anything absolutely stand-out, except for Below.

I'm kinda surprised at how many people think there is going to be a major price cut. I remember reading that the actual unit cost for a X1 is 471 (or around that), so that means the will have a net loss of 11 dollars per unit including Xbox Live, and that doesn't take into account shipping and retailer costs. They would have to drop or reorganize a hell of a lot to make it a sound investment for their board if they can't make a profit on a unit sale. On top of all that they are still selling at a "xbox" record, so the console is still selling well enough for the higher ups to be pleased. Being number one is not worth an overall loss for the two major factors (live and unit) if being number 2 can bring you a great profit. That's my two cents anyway.

Just TV TV SPORTS SPORTS TV SPORTS. /s

I'm not expecting anything huge and new, all the big stuff has probably been leaked already.

Price cut
Sunset Overdrive
Quantum Break(with TV stuff)
Fable: Legends of Microtransactions
Forza Horizon 2
Halo 2
New Platinum Game
Teaser for new GoW or Crackdown but not both
TV TV SPORTS(no sarcasm this time, it will make an appearance)
3rd party stuff, will include CoD.
End with Halo 5 teaser

Besides a ton of games, I think they will announce an Xbox "network" of streaming content and content-on-demand with a bunch of the TV projects they've been developing. Something in the vein of UFC Fight Pass/WWE Network/NFL Now/etc. Call it XboxTV or something. Also available on mobile devices.

I also think a classic RARE franchise returns. Maybe Banjo.

It's not necessarily being number one -- it's having a strong enough userbase relative to competition to leverage the platform further.

Being behind doesn't just affect software/services sales through hardware: It also makes the tactics of buying exclusives and exclusive content more and more expensive, which feeds back into size of userbase and sales.

A price drop around this time can help with this.

I think MS will come with one of if not the most heavy games conference ever at a E3 this year. Definitely at least:

Halo 2
Project Nagano
Halo 5 gameplay
Gears
Forza Horizon 2
Fable
Maybe Crackdown logo announcement
Loads of indies to get on parity with Sony
At least 5 or 6 true exclusives we dont know about
AAA titles to really support the Kinect

You mean Xbox Live? They want to add value to it.

That is very true, but going from a 90 dollar profit per unit to a 10 dollar loss is going to be a real tough sell for those who wanted the division gone before the X1 was even released.

Euh, I doubt they have that many in preparation. But, hey, who knows!
