Microsoft plan pre-TGS event (Xbox 360)

it was rendered in real-time...
unless the story has changed for the 12th time.

WTF? Really? on xplay the sony guy said it was CG that was supposed to represent what the game would look like in real time (yea right)

After doing some digging, it seems like there was never a definitive answer regarding if Killzone was pre-rendered or done in real-time... unless I missed an official statement about it.

That being said, I would hope that the next gen systems could do this real-time. It seems perfectly realistic to assume that.

All sony needs to do at TGS is have the killzone trailer with a controllable camera. Imagine the ownage. x360 sales -1,000,000. Probably wouln't happen (I am pretty sure the e3 trailer was a 'target' render) but it would be pretty awsome if they could pull it off.

PS3 will have more hype than X360 at TGS if all they show of X360 is stuff around the quality of what we've seen so far.

But either way, it doesn't matter since PS2 will overshadow X360.

No, I am not joking. Metal Gear isn't that big in Japan as it is in NA and Europe. And like I said before, the PS3 software will in the beta or alpha stages running on beta kits compared to X360 software that will be running on final dev kits and will be near completion.

I am talking about playable games here.

This could end up being extremely positive or extremely negative for microsoft depending how the titles will look like.

I think Kojima will shock us all with MGS4.

I think the graphics of the games I produce will not enhance so much because I will concentrate on what we cannot see.

I think his interview with GI was very interesting

http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200506/N05.0610.1640.07387.htm

and this

Yeah. Of course I'm not saying that I'm going to create jungles again. But I can say, if I created this real world, and it happens to be--so small garden or so--it looks so bad, even badder than a PS2 platform, then I might throw away this idea.

Anyone else doing a pre-TGS conference? Sony? Where do the big annoucements usually take place during TGS - in a hote/theater like E3 or on the show floor?

IF PS3 doesn't have a more impressive showing at TGS than Sony has really gone downhill in Japan.

:lol :lol

OK, that's it. Bob's officially insane.

He flip flops on an hourly basis regarding vehement anger regarding the 360 pricing / configuration, on Sony/Microsoft affinity, and then he makes a comment like this that makes absolutely no sense.

We have our own John Kerry of the GAF boards. :D

From his interviews you can tell 2 things about MGS4's graphics, there's going to be a big emphasis on attention to detail and animation. Those are the 2 things he's made clear.

when did he say anything about attention to detail?

What do you think those comments about planting a seed, watering it and watching it grow were about? This was from a recent EGM interview

If he were to craft a forest environment for MGS4, he would want everything to work together in a realistically re-created ecosystem: Every tree grows from a seed, sheds it leaves, and dies. Ambitious....

I think Sony isnt in a great position for TGS.

If they show games they will be compared against E3 movies and they better look comparable and I find that doubtful at best.

If they dont show games then it is just a yawner. We can see movie previews at our local theater.

Of course MS better show some nearly ready for release versions of games that show the release power of the XBOX 360.

Ambitious is right....

see you in 2008, MGS4! :D

I completely disagree with this.
At this stage I prefer to see a huge list of great games announced with amazing trailers shown than a few alpha/beta playable demos (that I won't be able to play anyway :D :lol ).

Our own Tempy, who works for Guerilla, has said its a CG artist's conception.

That's why Sony would be smart to come out guns a blazing at them. Don't give them any room to breathe.

An impressive MGS4 trailer, some lesser trailers from DMC4, SH5, RE5, Killzone 3 realtime, playables of the new Tekken, I-8, Fight Night Round 3, and a surprise announcement of FFVII Remake, PS3 exclusive would be like 10 A-bombs dropped over Nagasaki....

...but when I let loose on these dream predictions I always set myself up for massive disappointment. :D :(

I think Sony will have a good showing at TGS. I expect Microsoft to really steal the show though.

When people expect you to have the best showing, it's not exactly stealing the show. Microsoft damn well better win given that they'll essentially have final hardware and showing what should be available at launch vs mostly videos for the PS3.

Just want to correct this mis-perception for the 100th time.

YES IT IS.

MGS is one of the top5 if not top3 franchises in Japan. It's up there with stuff like Gran Turismo. Japan was crazy about MGS during the MGS3 launch and no doubt MGS4 will be huge over there too.

MGS4 is already confirmed, Tekken should be there in some form, as should DMC4. The other big one would be GT5. Kaz was able to put together the GT2000 demo in 2 weeks, so it wouldn't take them too long to put together a trailer or a gameplay demo. Anything else would be icing on the cake.

As long as Sony shows new stuff on PS3 games, which there's a 99% chance of, it's a win-win. Either the games really do look as good as the E3 demos which will be amazing, or they won't which will lead to hilarity particularly on game forums

MGS has name and image recognition like few other brands out there. I was walking through Narita airport last week and there was a walkway ad for business analytics softare - just a black and white image of Snake in MGS3 captioned "Konami runs SAP".

Nah, I don't think people would get all riled up. No sensible person would go all "MGS4 doesn't look as good as the Killzone E3 trailer - who else is gonna boycott the PS3?" when MGS4 still ends up looking like a dream.

I'm guessing.... but they are probably trying to avoid getting completely overshadowed again by the PS3 (see E3). Makes sense. If they show their stuff a little early they will be able to hold people's attention for a little longer this time.

yeah, about 24 hours.

So what "big in Japan" Xbox360 franchises are going to wow the crowds at TGS? Barring some super-insane announcement they haven't secured anything bigger than Resident Evil, and the previous iteration of RE didn't sell as well as Metal Gear.

My opinion is Sony will own TGS just like they owned E3 - and maybe even harder.

I'm sorry, but most of the 360 games I've seen have looked decidedly underwhelming. On the other hand, the PS3 demos I've seen - and I'm talking about the ones that have been clearly identified as real-time - have got me believing there's a real, honest-to-goodness GAP between the two systems.

After what I consider to be an embarrassing MTV unveiling and a lackluster E3, I just don't expect MS to put together a tight, "knock-our-socks-off" showing for TGS. I feel like we already know what most of the launch games will be, and how they will look. And I'm not blown away.

Meanwhile, Sony's been quiet, much like they were before E3. I feel like they're going to come into TGS with footage, playable demos, and surprise announcements that will completely overshadow Microsoft and 360. Having seen Heavenly Sword, Project Force, and Lair, my expectations for PS3 are high, and about what I'd expected of the next generation.

Maybe I'm wrong, but to me, based on what both companies have shown so far, this seems to be the direction things are heading.

don't we have this fight every year for E3 about who wins the convention and then a few months down the line everyone says who cares who won the convention its all about sales and games and blah blah blah?

Well, most of the stuff we've seen has been the US lineup. So, it looks like this will be an unveiling of the Japanese lineups.

DOA 4
FFXI
Blue Dragon
Resident Evil 4
Rumble Roses XXX
New Konami flagship title
Ridge Racer 6
99 Nights

What else?

This is what Maruyama said after the Japan Summit, so it sounds like they'll announce atleast a few new games for Japan

That is not the complete list because we have more than what we are announcing today under development. Basically weÂ’re giving a list of 37 companies working on 45 titles today. In reality, we have close to 50 publishers working on around 100 titles. Gradually weÂ’ll be announcing more and more titles closer to the launch of the 360.

Sakaguchi said in an interview awhile ago that BD/LO probably won't be playable. Hopefully we'll see some realtime stuff though and get more details.
