Microsoft releases "Mixed Reality" advertisement on Good Friday, sets to private after negative reactions

This is a writeup from the Crazy Days and Nights blog:

This massive corporation that all of you know and the entire world knows was trying to promote its new mixed reality device. How they chose to do this was to hook up with the "most legendary performance artist working now." In reality, she makes her money putting herself into as many Satanic images as she can and even had 666 in her social media profile for a long time.

The ad that emerged was people wearing the device to witness a ghostly version of the artist appearing out of nowhere while walking around while wearing a symbolic red dress. This was released on Good Friday, which was certainly unusual.

The video was not well received at all. After a flood of negative comments and about 90% thumbs down, the company set the video to private and also removed all traces of the campaign from its official website – although it still appears in Google search results.

The video has been re-uploaded by someone:

Nothing screams togetherness and helping eachother out with love and kindness in a time of crisis like Satanism... Especially a giant corporation promoting and releasing an add about it on Good Friday... When they know many Christians right now aren't even allowed to gather and celebrate it...

I'm not going to police them. They can do what they want. But crap like this just reinforces my belief that there is an anti-christian/conservative push in media and the corporate world in general.

The narrative promoted in that blog has nothing to do with anything. The woman is a well known performance artist going back to the 60s, and always stirred up trouble.

The people writing that blog need to get out of the 90s and become real SJWs. They might get a modicum of traction that way.

I'm not religious, but really, they couldn't have just waited a week to release this ad? They had to put the video, featuring a satanist prancing around to sell their new product, out over one of Christians most holy holidays?

It just comes across as deliberately trying to cause offense to get controversy viewership. It's both rude and unprofessional from such a large company.

Also, an obscure old satanist? That's the face of their new product? Are they hoping to appeal to the edgy teen market, or just the dozen weirdos that would both worship the Prince of Lies and have the cash to buy this tech? What audience exactly is this meant to be appealing to?

I don't see anything controversial in the ad or the performance. As a matter of fact I don't see anything at all, is the performance just her avatar being there ? How is it more artistic than the multiple telepresence demos MS has been doing for years with the device ?

Can we all agree that performance art is stupid?

Willem Dafoe disagrees. You should check out his work in "The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic"

And you know, so many people are just obsessed with this lady. If nothing else, then it shows a lot of these people are really into it.

No different than some hardcore nerd going to a D&D fest, these people flock to this shit for Marina. It's because they like it, it's what they're interested in.

I thought the ad was bad, but the reason why people hate is way worse. What the fuck. Seems like kindergarten shit.

The ad is crap, but really, you believe in the devil? Kind of childish.

I’m not sure of which type of satanist she is. If she were to be a LaVey Satanist (since it’s the most famous one) then she would not believe in the devil as he‘s depicted in the Bible. The devil, according to LaVey is merely a representation of the self, what a person should strive for.

Here is a direct quote from Church of Satan, which was founded by LaVey, regarding the 9 Satanic Statements.

  1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!
  2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!
  3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!
  4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!
  5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!
  6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!
  7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!
  8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!
  9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years

Is Christianity the only acceptable mainstream religious target? I don't recall seeing much in the way of criticism of other major faiths in any sort of mainstream media growing up, but for as long as I can remember, uptight Christians and every aspect of their behaviour have been highlighted and mocked. There used to be more positive exposure mixed in with this - The Simpsons would highlight various aspects to mock, but the family still went to church every week, there were shows like Touched by an Angel, I feel like this is entirely gone now and outside of your family, you're never going to see positively portrayed Christians in entertainment media.

The video does not in any way target Christianity.

It simply features someone whose performance art has offended Christians.

That's it. The Christian persecution complex is fucking insane.. you guys basically run the Western World, get a grip.

It was a general question, I didn't say anything about the video.

LOL because some of the comments in the thread made me think about it?

So you DONT THINK the video targets Christianity, but decided to just post a blog claiming this chick is some satanist, when she isn't.. let conversation go in your thread claiming this ad shits on Christianity, etc.. and then decided to chime in with your comment about Christianity being targeted..

But you don't think this ad targets Christianity.

OK.. your comment is still ridiculous. "I feel like this is entirely gone now and outside of your family, you're never going to see positively portrayed Christians in entertainment media. " Do you even ever watch TV or movies? All kinds of positively portrayed characters are Christians. You are blind if you don't see that.

I didn't say that, anywhere. I posted an interesting news item without comment. Further into the thread I posed a general question resulting from some of the comments I read. Not understanding your level of butthurt, you don't have to participate if this is triggering for you.

How ironic; this entire thread is about Christian's being triggered... I'm not triggered at all.

amazing this 70s performance artist is still grifting.

performance art is really the lowest of all the arts. it's also old ass shit. Bruce Nauman did his Fountain in 1966. it was him standing up and spitting water out his mouth like he was a fountain. that's performance art for you.

really funny to see this person constantly getting work. like i get wanting to work with feminist loons like Hillary Clinton but lol why is she doing work for Microsoft? she just a big sellout with a brand like a million other people.
But you don't think this ad targets Christianity.
no, this ad targets lib edgelords, that is the intended audience. no doubt they get a thrill out of "triggering" the Christians they don't actually know but can imagine getting upset.

she's a fake satanist. intellectually or morally, nothing she does has anything to do with religion or morality, it's just aesthetics. shock value. she is an old school feminist trolling in standard 60s/70s occult imagery. it's literally done to get a rise out of people. it never goes further than that. i mean one of her works was writing on the wall in blood. she's the Wall Street version of Marilyn Manson. people reacting probably put more thought into it than she did.

Your average "lib edgelord" has literally no idea who the fuck this person is.. and the ad itself literally has nothing edgelordy about it.. at all..

It's literally nothing.. without the Alex Jones conspiracy crap from a few years ago we wouldn't even be seeing this thread. It's Christians and right-wing yahoos giving attention to someone no one on the left gives a flying fuck about... creating a controversy where this is none.

"Symbolic red dress... released on Good Friday"... good lord, how is this not being laughed off by everyone here?

she was directly involved in the Spirit Cooking fiasco, no? talked about in the Podesta emails. she clearly has a lot of pull with the Dem establishment. she is also somewhat involved in the silly Pizzagate fiasco. lib edgelords think all that shit is hilarious.

it's literally nothing without Microsoft putting out this ad on Good Friday. it's silly to blame Alex Jones for conspiracy when a company is quite literally doing everything to market to that conspiracy. pretending that only Alex Jones types care is pretty silly and handwavey. if that was true, this ad would not exist.

that said i think it's all silly marketing. i don't think they are actually satanists, they just want to give that appearance for clout or cred or whatever. as far as "nobody cares about her" that is absurd. she was involved in the DNC. she is in the Podesta emails. she has some pull. idg why you think people shouldn't be like "what's the deal w her?"

Without commenting on it myself, just one question everyone should think about:
Why is it that Christianity is always ridiculed, frowned upon, misrepresented, hated etc. while mainstream media, the biggest corporations, "artists" etc. basically the people that dictate and formulate what happens/will happen in the world promote blatant satanism and everything that is forbidden in the Bible?
You don't need to be religious at all, just think about this.

Well to be fair, you're being politically correct. And we don't need more of that now do we? The ad isn't even a big deal. It's just optics, it's about being mad at the idea of the ad because it's affiliated with satanism. But who really views it that way? People highly sensitive to the content, who notice specialized things in their ecosystem that an average person wouldn't think twice about.

Some examples would be appreciated, I actually don't watch much modern stuff, but I mentioned a couple of examples of how my impression of the general cultural attitude has changed over the years. The Simpsons used to prominently feature Church in many episodes, and early on they frequently delved into actual moral issues, it felt like it was written by actual Christians for some time. I don't even think they attend Church anymore in the show, do they? And are there any shows like Touched by an Angel today? I can't think of any off hand, but just thinking about it for a second the only thing I'm aware of in that realm at all is Lucifer. My impression is that Christian families are still used because of demographics, but unless I'm unaware of something, it's not highlighted in a positive manner as much as I noticed that while growing up.

To the other part of my point though, would be interested in examples of other major faiths being shit on in our entertainment media in the same manner as the acceptable Christian ball busting. Are there any prominent examples of popular entertainment media that took a critical stance on Jews or Muslims? Any jokes about Muslim underage marriage in popular tv/movies? Jokes about Christian priests are a genre of their own.

I don't mean explicitly Christian TV shows; there weren't many "Touched by an Angel"'s back in the day either. Off the top of my head in the last 24 hours I've watched some of Community on Netflix which has a prominent positively portrayed Christian; and the episode of The Blacklist I watched the other day had the character going on about her belief in God / Christianity and she's the protagonist.

And The Blacklist had an entire episode about creepy Muslims marrying underage girls that I watched the other day actually lol

Portrayals are more secular these days for sure; lots of characters are vaguely religious, express faith or a belief in God, etc. If anything it's still incredibly rare for any character to claim they do not believe in God; and these characters are rarely portrayed in a positive light.
