Even if they are not surface.
It still does not explain the problems that students are having:
RT stands for Runtime
it's an application layer architecture/framework for future windows to come.
They are going to try to phase out Win32 and focus on RT. For ARM RT tablets, other than some specific Microsoft applications, you are not allowed to even call into Win32 framework anymore
Easy
Microsoft has ways to lock out Win32 API from non authorized applications.
from what i have read winrt is still a dll or whatever and not a clear separation from win32. At least not yet.RT stands for Runtime
it's an application layer architecture/framework for future windows to come.
Microsoft will eventually try to make everything new to go to RT
Come on, the Apple system war baiting is silly. Yeah, he brought it up, so he should prove it. But come on. "TAKE THE PICTURES FROM EVERY ANGLE OR SHUT UP" is just being an asshat.

Yeah. i was just under the impression that winRT was a clean seperation of Win32. Looks to me it still depends on Win32 for some stuff. Anyway, i don't know much about this stuff anyway so i could be speaking nonsense.dll is just short for dynamically linked library. which every platform/os/framework has some form of this in one way or the other.
That still doesn't make sense as a lot of software the students might use is Windows 32 only... I am talking about research and some of them go into legacy side ie. Widnows XP or prior and need to be installed.
Aside from this,
4) Bluetooth Keyboard issues not working properly?
5) Lag and delay in Windows/Office saving things?
How can a person explain that.
PS: I have yet to see these problems myself. My friend who works with the students has told us(rest of the TAs) about their grievances with the new tablets and has emailed the Chairman of the Biology department about them.

No offense man, but your lack of experience in IT matters is obvious.
Those kids have Samsung Series 7 slates with Windows 8 installed.
Basic users having problems with printing is just another day at the office.
Driver issues for an OS that has only been released to manufacturing is par for the course on any x86 machine not just tablets.
I could go on and on.
I know a thing a two about computers dude. I deal with computer and my research deals with computers (Windows/OSX/Unix).... Like, I said I never got a good look at them. My friend is one who relayed this information regarding the tablets. So there.
These problems weren't present when Windows 7 was released on school laptops as they had an option to print through Vista drivers for pharos... Plus those Vista drivers worked perfectly when printing.

They have Windows 7 and OSX drivers there.
That is why, I am saying the the tablets are ARM? based as they don't have any drivers available for that system.
Lastly, I said I take a better look at them later this week and when I get a chance.
If I am wrong, then I am wrong. If I am right then I am right. It still deals with windows 8 being on tablet form.![]()

I know its hilarious to even be entertaining the fact that a top secret device that even the media can't touch without extreme supervision was giving to a group of student. Sure buddy!!his students are not using Surface for windows RT.

now you're reaching further than he isWhat about MIPS?

From what I can surmise based on the descriptions provided, it looks like they're just iPads dude.I know a thing a two about computers dude. Go to the Apple thread and tell them you have an iPad mini and it is a clusterfuck. See if they are as accommodating as the people here have been. I for one have no idea why anyone would believe his story in the least.
You are digging a hole.
Why does it have to be ARM? What about MIPS?
heck why does it even have to be a DIFFERENT architecture. Mac and PC runs on the same CPU now.
Not having a drive makes you think it's ARM platform? GG

no, where did this rumor start? first I have heard of it.So is there actually going to be some sort of Microsoft Surface announcement tomorrow? Or was all the September 14 speculation washed under the bridge?

A Lumia 920, a tough screen Pc, and a surface is what we'll be getting.
- A new work PC with Windows 8. The user can choose between desktops, laptops, ultrabooks and tablets. The company usually refreshes work PCs for employees every three years.
- A Windows Phone 8 device of their choosing
you could have always used the excuse "I need it for work".I am actually ecstatic because there is no way the missus would let me buy another gadget and I really want one of these as a luggable hybrid device.
different software architecture... ARM based RT will have different software architecture than OSX/32bit/64bit... That was my logic behind that.
Now the question is what to get for "work" Win8 PC refresh! I am thinking about getting a Surface pro.
If you're already getting a Surface RT, you'd probably want to get a Lenovo or something with a bigger screen. My x220 for the last 2-3 years has been awesome, compact, with great battery life, but still has a much larger screen than the Surface.
Can anybody tell me if there's any indication that the Pro will be good for digital art?
It has a stylus, a hires screen, a proper file system and Photoshop. Answer has to be yes, more or less. Nobody's comparing it to a dedicated art screen like a Wacom but it has blindingly obvious utility.
Umm.. Yeah. Can I work for you guys?I'm getting a free one!
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
I am stoked. This means I can do proper work and do totally amazing shit like save or copy a file.
THE FUTURE!

This is my question too - does it have decent pressure sensitivity? In my case, I kinda was
I just want it to be as good as Wacom's Bamboo.
