Easy
Microsoft has ways to lock out Win32 API from non authorized applications.
I won't be supprised if that happened on the Samsung tablets, since the purpose for them is so dev can do new apps

It's a bizarre naming scheme.
"Windows RT" and "WinRT" are two completely different things. It's like when they went crazy and called everything ".Net"
That still doesn't make sense as a lot of software the students might use is Windows 32 only... I am talking about research and some of them go into legacy side ie. Widnows XP or prior and need to be installed.
Aside from this,
4) Bluetooth Keyboard issues not working properly?
5) Lag and delay in Windows/Office saving things?
How can a person explain that.
PS: I have yet to see these problems myself. My friend who works with the students has told us(rest of the TAs) about their grievances with the new tablets and has emailed the Chairman of the Biology department about them.
from what i have read winrt is still a dll or whatever and not a clear separation from win32. At least not yet.

Go to the Apple thread and tell them you have an iPad mini and it is a clusterfuck. See if they are as accommodating as the people here have been. I for one have no idea why anyone would believe his story in the least.

If they are not surfaces, then there is no reason for us to believe anything else you have to say on the matter. You are either coming to us in ignorance or are intentionally lying, either way your information would not be reliable.
dll is just short for dynamically linked library. which every platform/os/framework has some form of this in one way or the other.
Yeah. i was just under the impression that winRT was a clean seperation of Win32. Looks to me it still depends on Win32 for some stuff. Anyway, i don't know much about this stuff anyway so i could be speaking nonsense.

Basic users having problems with printing is just another day at the office.
Driver issues for an OS that has only been released to manufacturing is par for the course on any x86 machine not just tablets.

does it depend on Win32? I don't know, could it? Maybe, nothing stopping a library from calling another. However doesn't stop Microsoft to lock out other frame works from application level if they want.

These problems weren't present when Windows 7 was released on school laptops as they had an option to print through Vista drivers for pharos... Plus those Vista drivers worked perfectly when printing.

That is why, I am saying the the tablets are ARM? based as they don't have any drivers available for that system.

It's like going into the iPhone 5 thread and telling everyone you saw a friend using an iPhone 5.
They ask you about it, question it, telling you that it can't be an iPhone 5 and you insist that it's really one. Taller screen, same icons, somewhat different design.
Turns out it was the Galaxy S II.
I know its hilarious to even be entertaining the fact that a top secret device that even the media can't touch without extreme supervision was giving to a group of student. Sure buddy!!

I understand you do have some experience with computers. It is not meant to be an insult. It is just easy for someone who has plenty of years experience in the wild to see some areas you lack experience in.

Edit: Just to give you an example, the other day one of my programmers installed Windows 8 to dual boot along with Windows 7. After complete install the computer wouldn't fully boot. However, if he unplugged the keyboard it would boot. The point I'm making is just because a driver worked perfect on Windows 7 doesn't mean it will work perfectly on Windows 8.

different software architecture... ARM based RT will have different software architecture than OSX/32bit/64bit... That was my logic behind that.
You guys remember the original Asus EEE Netbook? Originally, it came with linux for the cheaper price and XP with more expensive price (or same price with smaller SSD). Walmart experienced massy returns with the linux version. The SUK was quickly dropped in the US.
I think the RT tablets will face similar confused customer returns (if Best Buy and Walmart bother to push them in the first place.)

Looks like there will also be 10 watt Ivy Bridge parts early next year. If Surface Pro doesn't have Haswell, hopefully it uses one of those.

Printing in Windows 8 requires diffrent drivers. Your mot likely having problems becaue your using an unreleased OS that doesn't have all the supported drivers yet.

Now windows 7 printer drivers should work , but thats not allways going to be the case and god only knows what set up you have with pharos.

It's possible we might still see some sort of announcement, but not in form of a big presentation. They already had a big Surface event. All that's missing is price and availability. They could do that with a blog post.

Microsoft had their annual employee meeting today in Seattle and Ballmer announced that every Microsoft employee worldwide is going to get a Surface.

If you're already getting a Surface RT, you'd probably want to get a Lenovo or something with a bigger screen. My x220 for the last 2-3 years has been awesome, compact, with great battery life, but still has a much larger screen than the Surface.
Thanks, I'll look it up. I do most of my work on desktop anyway. so this will be my "companion" PC.
It has a stylus, a hires screen, a proper file system and Photoshop. Answer has to be yes, more or less. Nobody's comparing it to a dedicated art screen like a Wacom but it has blindingly obvious utility.

Saw the announcement this morning about MS employees all getting a Surface and was kind of excited. I'm one of the Windows Champion Bloggers and they give us all kinds of cool stuff all the time too. This could mean I'll get a Surface down the line as well. I'm 99% sure I'll get a Windows Phone 8 device around the time that they are launched too.
