Microsoft wins FTC appeal challenging $69 billion Activision Blizzard deal

I'd MS likely hoped to make COD exclusive and turn things around, but the 10-year deal Jim Ryan secured prevented that and ended up being the final push for Xbox to go 3rd party.

It was Jim Ryan's mic drop moment to end his career with.
They had to sacrifice so much to have the acquisition approved that I was surprised they still wanted to go further. They even had to give the cloud rights for CoD games to Ubisoft and then to licence them back, at some point it became just a right for Microsoft to put Activision's trial balance in their consolidated accounts, barely much more.

You mean the 10 year deal Jim Ryan was basically forced to sign? The one he refused to sign months before?? Hmmmm ok.

If I would be 'fighting' in court, I'd be refusing to sign a deal to try and get a much more beneficial deal as well.

We've seen how rapidly Xbox has declined since the deal went through.

Or do you think it's a coincidence that Ryan retired shortly after the deal, while having turned PS5 into the most profitable gen by far?

I thought the FTC dropped everything way back. But I guess FTC was still going on about it.

Give all the FTC people involved credit for grifting all those legal fees for years. They surely knew they'd lose, but might as well fight it with your US tax dollars for a pay cheque.

Wow that's some spin. Are you a politician? Jim Ryan failed at blocking the deal something he said in his own words. Ultimately he was forced to sign the 10 year deal once it became obvious MS were going to win. If he didnt sign, he risked PlayStation getting a worse deal than other competitors such as Nintendo. He ultimately resigned because of his own failure to block the deal, and the complete state he left PlayStation first party studios in. Only something that has come to light recently. Xbox hardware has declined yes but is this as big a problem when you basically own half the industry and the direction of travel for the industry is digital content fuelled by subscriptions and platform agnosticism? I mean even PlayStation are waking up to this now.

What you just said doesn't contradict what I was saying.

Ok but you are talking absolute nonsense. You are saying Jim Ryan basically ensures cod remained multi platform and thus somehow they meant Xbox went third party. He had nothing to do with that. Microsoft offered that from the beginning as part of the deals Nintendo signed and offered to Sony/jimbo on which he declined 😂 but caved later.

All gamers won, even Xbox fans!
Who now get to experience the joys of playing games on a PlayStation or PC.
Msft won aka nothing threatens windows monopoly but Msft laziness.
Ps6 = mass market or low selling enthusiast machine. If ps5 can't surpass ps4 Sony will be backed into a corner.
Nextbox = potential high end w a low end variant for budget gaming. A 3do variant would work as it would be the advertising version for gaming ads aka multiplatform games.

The real winner would be a publisher that can release high end designed games to kill off upstarts.

Imagine an update to helldivers 2 that takes great advantage of a 5090 level gpu, it would ensure no copy cats crawling out the woodwork.

Portable series/ps4-5 would be a game changer for developers and the industry.

Now MS can move ahead and buy PlayStation off of Sony, the plan is nearly complete.

You're basically saying the same thing in different words.

And you fail to respond when challenged on your revisionism.
What don't you get?

The 10-year deal would most likely have been the bottom-line. You don't ever try to settle for the bottom-line unless there is absolutely no other alternative.

Doesn't change the fact that he got the deal out of it, with the consequences we have seen up until this point.

Call me crazy, but there's an alternate reality where this deal never happened and Microsoft didn't port games to PS5 and they kept every Bethesda game as an exclusive. This would've been the smarter move for their bottom line I think.

Spencer definitely bit off more than he could chew and now he has to sacrifice Xbox to make money for Microsoft.

lol. Joking aside; Apple would be a better option as a premium product and protection of Sony not having an Os aka PlayStation doesn't die if Sony can't afford r&d. however apple is probably the biggest gaming company via its store.
