Miitomo Launches March 17th

It's a mysterious social app rather than a straightforward sequel, so obviously it has a different level of interest. But I guarantee you that Facebook will be flooded with this mii editor photos for some type of period.
Yes everyone that's a big Nintendo fan will flood Facebook with miitomo pictures. All two of them.

Has it been pointed out yet that it appears My Nintendo will only reward for digital purchases and not physical ones? I've had this suspicion for a while but no real confirmation until seeing this page below where it explicitly calls out digital games / versions:

It's not really that surprising but it certainly sucks.

(this seems like the closest recent thread as people are anticipating the My Nintendo launch with Miitomo)

Hmm...I currently only buy physical whenever I can, but after the Wii U generation I realized that if I feel comfortable buying anyone's games digitally, it's Nintendo since their games are so replayable. A lot of the AAA stuff on PS4/Bone is strictly one and done for me so I need to be able to resell those.

I'm more interested in finding out what MyNintendo is than getting Miitomo. Maybe I'll DL it. I haven't downloaded a single app on my smart phone nor have I linked an e-mail account to it so I guess I'd have to do that shit first.

I really hope it has some game-y aspects for your community. Taking mii pictures is fun, but nothing you can keep going for longer than a few weeks. A felly fleshed out happening-like app with a Nintendo twist would be amazing.

Apologies for the bump, but is there any information regarding the specific launch times? There doesn't seem to be any information on the website.

It's still very early in Japan, but yeah, it's too quiet right before the launch for an app that was delayed with the excuse that needs to be proper explained and the extensive communication about it is better to be done outside holiday season.

Since this is Nintendo's first app on smarthphones, I thought Nintendo would promote the hell out of this as soon as March begins but here we are, on the middle of march and we haven't hear a single word about Miitomo and why it would be nice to try it out. Not even Nintendo of Japan bothers on post a tweet about it even though it launched today there... Nintendo is getting out of hand with this radio silence they've been practicing lately. Quite annoying as well.

The irony is that they haven't done any of that yet even though, Miitomo already launched in Japan. Just... ugh. Hoping they post a release trailer on YT through the day or something at least.

I can only assume they've determined it's a lost cause and sent it out to die, like everything else they never bother to promote.

I don't know, they set a target of 100 mio. Nintendo Accounts to be open and Miitomo was supposed to be a main driver for that.

Well, it's no Mario.
Edit : usually with mobile games, publishers reveal it the day it's available or shortly before, there might be a blowout soon.

Ive talked to Nintendo and only Japan is confirmed for launch tomorrow. The rest of the regions are 'march'. No specific dates, has to do with Apple letting the app go up and what not.

I'm very surprised Nintendo's breakout mobile app isn't getting any promotion marketing besides the website. This is Nintendo's first big splash into the mobile app ocean, along with getting everyone signed up into the My Nintendo system and addicted to the point collecting craze.

Where are the commercials and social media hype trying to hook the casual audience?

It hasn't launched yet today in Japan, or at the very least I can't find it on the Japanese Google Play Store if it did.

I hope they just aren't advertising it too much yet in order to avoid launch day traffic issues.

Yes and? It should go up today in japan I suppose.

Weve tried the app last week and can post about in 9 hours or so. Probably around that time the app goes up in japan or so?

Posting about it in nine hours means an embargo. Embargo means press blowout. So nothing to fear, y'all, Nintendo does plan to promote this.

It's less than what I was expecting, but Nintendo has promoted the app, through its official Japanese website, Twitter account and the whole pre-registration, with the beginning of Nintendo Account, was, indeed, a marketing operation. Plus a (small, yeah) mention in the latest Direct. Still, I won't deny that I was expecting some commercials or other marketing initiative alongside what they did. However, what I want to know is how it compares to other apps that are similar in terms of function in Japan: do they get advertised more after launch , and how.

Err im not going to break embargos sorry, this is my job and Im quite fond of it. Tomorrow morning (europe) we can talk about it, dunno about embargos outside of europe sorry.

Edit: makes sense for nintendo to have the embargo end on launch day. I mean most of their games we can review before they come out but with an app I guess you have to catch lightning and get the ball rolling very fast, also to make people able to download it as soon as they've read about it.

Yeah, it's only 7AM or so there so it should go up in the next couple of hours.

I just wonder if the app they put up for Japan will already be translated for other regions like Pokemon Shuffle Mobile was though. (Although that might be a different case altogether because it's technically the Pokémon Company and they already had the 3DS translation to start with.)

Oh, just when I posted, that's interesting.

I was more talking out loud. I thought apps go up at midnight in the Play Store for example.

Ah. Yeah I have no idea. All Ive been told is march 17th, march for the other announced regions. They couldnt give other specific dates. Dunno about press outside europe but this is all we know next to the playtest journalists had.

Nah, I think they can get released at any time a publisher wants. I don't know for sure though, but I remember the Pokémon Shuffle Beta app launching at a weird time.

There's nothing on the Nintendo's twitter account since 11th of March when they announced the release date (and by searching I found out that they already excused about not knowing the exact time of release). There's no real major news, tweets, anything post announcement except for couple of articles on Nintendo fans sites on or around 15th of March. Certainly no visible sign of promoting this in the past two days.

Well, at least there will be some kind of press blow-out later.

Edit: I thought the whole idea is to promote this outside the usual audience of gaming media and to expose new audience to Nintendo's IP.

Maybe they're having trouble nailing a date because of store proprietors? Nintendo has never had to use someone else's digital platform before, have they? Either way, I hope the message clears up soon.

I just want to know if the new club nintendo thing is going to be on the same app or a different app, like the same way sony and microsoft is doing it.

MyNintendo is not Miitomo, therefore MyNintendo will likely have its own app.

Nah, I doubt it's that. DeNA have worked with these storefronts before, and I'm sure they're the ones handling all of this. It's probable that Nintendo have a certain time at which they're going to release it. I think it's just strange for us because we don't often wait the release of a mobile app. We're not used to it.
